2nd UU and 2nd UB for DoC

Seeing some posts in an other thread, its seems there is a demand for a 2nd UU and UB for some civs. As the creator of that kind of modcomp for RFCMarathon, I thought it may a good job for me. (It also provides a nice base)

In the second post, you can find a link a list of the new units and buildings. Feel free to comment on those. If you have a better UU of UB, or a better unique ability, please say so. It would be nice if the UU and (especially) the UB could be linked with their UHV.

If you have an idea for a new UU/UB, please give me as much info as you can. I would appreciate if you can give me the following things:
- Name
- What is should replace
- What the unique bonus is (Please don't bring up any exotic bonus, as I'm not able to code it. Only things that only require XML coding will be doable.)
- (if possible) link to art

I mean some art in the forums, not a image you found on google or whatever. I can't create units/buildings myself, so I have to use art created by others. I can reskin things though.
If you saw an image in a different mod (like Realism Invictus, SoI etc), you can also refer to that unit/building. Some of those mods I already have on my computer, so getting the art isn't difficult for me.

- (if possible) link to possible pedia text (wikipedia is good enough)

Install instructions:
Regular download
1. Download the package.
2. Unzip the package in the RFC Dawn of Civilization mod.
3. Say yes when it asks to replace some files.
4. Play the mod as usual.

You might also want to take into consideration that I plan to add a Bombard unit to replace the medieval cannon, and make the cannon a Rifling unit again, with appropriate stats.

Indonesian UU is Pencak Silat (not Penkat Silat)..
Leoreth add another one, Orang Laut (privateer)

Honestly, I'd prefer Bambu Runcing and Orang Laut..
Bambu Runcing is a Bamboo cutted diagonally and sharply on the edge and thrown to enemy so they'll stabbed, bleed and die.. :p

About the UB
The current UB is Candi (Theater)
I think the second one should be some kind of gathering place like Plaza : Pendopo.. replace Courthouse? ..
Current Courthouse + small Science, Culture and Commerce..

Good point. Merijn, do you know how to create modules? Then you could make this into a module that anyone could easily add and remove, no matter if they used the downloaded version of DoC or the SVN repository.
 
I'd like to for see England's 2nd UB a Royal Dockyard (Adds exp to Naval Units and a bit of gold).

And what about some sort of Fort structure (adds defence and a little exp for any units built in the same city) for all civs after Castles are made obsolete? Seen as Forts pretty important to all european civs after say 1700ce. I know workers can build forts as well but deffo something in city is needed methinks :) I'm thinking about colonial civs mainly here, an early New York or Durban should have a fort in the settlement surely??

I'm aware of the Orang Laut. This was my suggestion if it wasn't their 1st UU.

The Royal Dockyard is nice. It's nicely tied to their 1st UHV. However I don't like the extra gold, because there 1st UB already has that bonus. A discount in maintenance is nice.

The Fort Structure is something for the mainmod. This modcomp is only for an extra UU and UB for each civ.

I saw the Prussians will be in the new version. What will their UU and UB be? Will they get the Panzer and Assembly Plant and the Germans (HRE) will get the Landsknecht and Rathaus?

If it's only for the constants in Consts.py and CvRhyes.h, we could handle this with an additional game option so I could include the constants into the main mod and load them according whether your module is there or not.

In the original modcomp (for RFCMarathon), these python files were changed:
Consts.py
Victory.py (Roman UHV: Construct 5 Barracks --> Construct 5 Castra)
cvBuildingPedia.py (To show some hidden buildings, like Babylon Garden)
cvPediaMain.py (To hide the new, non buildable UU, like Celtic Carpentom)
MercenaryUtils.py (avoid that 2nd UU can be a merc)
Barbs.py (Celtic Carpentom and Native American Brave spawn)
RiseAndFall.py (Some starting units are 2nd UU)

And ofcourse the thing you changed in the DLL.

I also had some changes map. (600 AD, with Swiss Pikeman in Rome and Tagmata in Constantinople, instead of Pikeman. No other changes) But this can be included next to the other scenarios, so this won't cause any problems.

All other files were art and XML, which can be included in the Module. I'm not sure however if the python can "read" the XML files from the module. (Does the consts.py "read" the module XML or the vanilla files)

When do you expect to launch a new version with the Prussians? If that is soon, I will wait for that, so I can include their 2nd UU + UB with the others. Also, do you have plans for more new civs in the near feature?
 
You're right, that's too many files for my approach to work, especially if it includes the scenario.

I think the civ list is closed atm. An official release will take some time, however.
 
Doppelsoldner for German(HRR) civ. Art and pedia can be just like doppelsoldner in RFCE mod(and I have to say the model of doppelsoldner in RFCE is excellent ). However I have no idea that which unit should be replaced by doppelsoldner .wikipedia http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doppelsoldner
 
Well ,in my opinion ,the word Landsknecht means Mercenaries ,so it can be just an UM .However ,some of the Doppelsoeldners, the Zweihaender-users ,were trained in the swordmanship-schools such as the St.Mark's Brotherhood ,so Doppelsoeldner can be one of the UU for the HRR .

Pencak Silat is the name of a martial art, just like Kungfu (China), Taekwondo (Korea) or.. umm.. what's Japanese one?
Just like any other Martial Arts, it were not used to attack people but to defend oneself. So, even if Pencak Silat should be there, the name should be Pencak Silat Warrior or Pendekar Pencak Silat (but sounds really really awkward :lol:)

Yes, I am. The more historical is, off course, Bamboo Runcing.
There are many version of Bamboo Runcing.
There is one, used by Dayak tribe of the Kalimantan, a bamboo showered with poison ivy etc where the stabbed people will die instantly.
This is the reason why the Dutch can never colonize the Kalimantan (Borneo) into the deep jungles..

Another famous example of Bamboo Runcing is invented as their only deadly weapon when the Indonesian do not have any machine gun etc versus the Dutch.

Perhaps you'd want to modify the Orang Laut better.. I don't really fancy the current OL which allows you to cross the cape and met the Europeans, because SriVijaya never directly contacted the Europeans at all. The farthest they had ever gone to is Madagascar. I hope the new OL shows how good the Srivijayan control the Southern Seas..

Historically, Pendopo is a gathering place, like Plaza for the Spanish.
There are merchant selling Jamu (traditional Javanese herbs drink), traditional snacks, etc.
There are musician playing traditional music like Gamelan or Karawitan.
There are scientists that met there to discuss knowledge.
There are nobles discussing about the future of the country..
I don't know though, if there were a place to store foods :p

The scenario isn't a problem. I can add it alongside the other scenarios. The only thing that is changed are some starting units in the 600AD scenario. (The 2 vanilla scenarios still exist and are playable) Python and DLL are the only problem.

Doppelsoldner for German(HRR) civ. Art and pedia can be just like doppelsoldner in RFCE mod(and I have to say the model of doppelsoldner in RFCE is excellent ). However I have no idea that which unit should be replaced by doppelsoldner .wikipedia http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doppelsoldner

Nice call for the Doppelsoldner. As I was the person who included them in RFCE, it wouldn't be very hard to do it for this modcomp. It's obvious that it should replace the Heavy Swordsman, I think.

The Doppelsoldner were used to break through enemy formations. (Especially pikeman) A bonus vs. pikeman would be historical, but gameplaywise useless. They already have a bonus vs. melee units (and pikeman doesn't). IMO, free Shock and Formation (or Cover) would also be nice, but maybe a bit OP.

Would a free specialist represent the gathering place well? It could be OP. (A free merchant, scientist, artist slot can also work)

Withdrawn my idea. A recent progress in Archaeology shown that there's a contact between the Srivijayan and the Andalusian at Europe..

Yeah. I think it could... many great people performs there to show their talents haha

You should. I think Leoreth will split up Germany and the HRE, meaning that Panzers as the HRE UB are no longer viable.

I also like the idea of the Doppelsoldners.

Well,maybe death head Hussar can be a UU for Prussia ,but I don't have much information now.
