There are many Mods out there that are great but have no coverage.
Here's an idea:
What if we had someone write reviews on Mods, sort of like the S&T Times?
It would provide more coverage...
Don't get any ideas now. I can't write better than a turkey with a pencil...
What do you guys think?

I like the idea of mod reviews. Wasn't that part of modcast (I almost didn't listen to it, so I'm not sure)?
I'm not sure it will help in getting more coverage for them, unless they're in the form of a 'mod spotlight' or some sort.
But in any case, adding review threads/forums is a very interesting idea.

I thought written reviews would help people who can't get videos (i.e. sometimes me)

We could add it to the front page, but doing a review would be a way to find little known mods to play :)

Hmmmm... I like this idea a lot. Perhaps there should be a reviews subform in C&C, or maybe in General Gameplay, so that non-modders can get into it.

:agree:
The S&T Times does reviews, but some more often would be appreciated :D (and by more authors :))

I'd not be opposed against putting a review into the monthly announcements...but the problem: Someone has to write one.

I used to keep an UP-TO-DATE mod thread, but i was told by an "Admin" that I couldn't do it anymore, "because i was promoting my mod"? But it had all mods listed in it and then the Updates were current also, and the date of the updates, then they started a Mod listing, of what i did and sticked it because someone else did it, and then that went kaput, i still to this day dont understand why i was told that info, when i had ALL mods Present and Old on it? All i can say now is "Oh well" you should have trusted me because i updated three times a day.

ModCast didn't really review mods, it promoted them. It had an art segment, a code segment (for python or dll modcomps mostly), a map segment, and then an overall mod segment. The mod segment was usually the longest and had an interview of sorts with the creator.

ModCast wasn't a video; it was all MP3 audio.

How did you keep it up to date? I mean, what did you do to check if a mod was updated?

Its really quite simple, but i wont give that secret away, sorry, cause like The_J said in one of his threads, if you write it here, it belongs to everyone, so "THEY" stopped me, so i stopped writing so much.

...I'm confused .

I'd be willing to write a review every once in a while, if we're serious I would write a review of K-Mod, see how that goes.

...since you have yourself a version of your mod with the K-Mod in it, I'd be against that. If someone writes something about a mod, then please without any "affiliation" to it. Else it's not a review, but more an advertisement.

 A tourists guide for CIV4 mods ?

He isn't really affiliated with K-Mod. He has just chosen to integrate K-Mod with his own mod. It's similar to integrating any other mod component.

If you block modders from reviewing anything that they use themselves, then that essentially blocks modders from reviewing any of their favourite things. -- And people who make the greatest range of different mods would be block from reviewing the greatest range of different things. So it seems to me that the people most likely, and most qualified, to write reviews would be blocked from reviewing. I think it would be better if people could just review whatever they want to review, as long as they disclose their relationship with the product.

There are many different reasons for bias. There is going to be bias and favouritism in the reviews regardless of what rules are imposed. I wouldn't assume that authors who have tinkered with the source code of a particular mod are more likely to write a biased review.

I think the readers will understand that knowing the identity of the reviewer strongly colours the content of the review; and a good review will include enough details for the reader to get some impression of whether or not they are likely to enjoy the mod, regardless of whether or not the reviewer says they enjoyed the mod. I think the reader of the review should be the one to decide if it a strong review, or just an advertisement.

I'd write some.
