I've been thinking about hosting an IOT for a while, and I've finally decided to do one. I believe this ruleset is the most fair and balanced one ever devised, and I hope everyone agrees.
House rules:
1. Only funny trolls are permitted to practice their art.
2. Stay on topic when it's convenient.
3. Your posts should actually consist of something relevant to your nation or one-liner comments.
4. Use the thread for all your diplomatic needs.
5. No powergaming. By definition, powergaming is creating any country Math made first.
6. The GM is supreme. He reserves the right to change game rules, ignore or modify orders, impose restrictions on players, disband player nations, and so on.
7. Above all else, RESPECT THY GM.
8. Stupid nations.
If you break the rules, I shoot a nuke at your capital. If you do it twice, I shoot a meteor. If you break them a third time, your nation splits off of the Earth and gets hurtled into the sun. Same applies to inactive people (turn = penalty).
I reserve the right to do any of the above (and then some) or ignore any of my rules.
Choose any country. That's your geopolitcal border. You can then do anything you want with that country. For example, you could pick the US and make it the CSA, turn Japan into Equestria, or even make the UK speak American. Keep in mind that the year is 10101.
Money is in
. Your income is number of provinces you have squared. This means Andorra has 1
, the Congo has 100
, and Brazil has 4096
. This is done to represent reality in the closest possible way, something I have noticed almost every IOT has shied away from. The notable exceptions are games made by METY.
You can build 1 infra per turn for every 100 you make. They only cost 10, though. Each infra counts as one province.
Diplomay
There are three categories of units. Each works in a rock-paper-scissors thing. I won't bore you with the details on how it works, but I can assure you it is the most complex and intuitive combat system ever devised. To hint at its complexity, it makes Dwarf Fortress look like Dwarfs!?
Ground
Jedi Knight - 200
Motorcycle lancer - 300
Enuf Dakka Array - 400
Sea
James Bond speedboat - 400
amphibious T-Rex - 600
Submarimon - 800
Air
Pegasus guard - 400
robot zombie ninja pirate dragon - 600
Steampunk zeppelin - 800
In addition, to ensure no nation is left out of the fighting, there are three low cost units which anyone can buy. These are in the ground-sea-air order.
filth-encrusted peasant spearman - 1
Sea Pony - 2
coyote on an ACME rocket - 5
Lastly, there are three super units, again one for each category and in the same order as before.
Dalek - 50000
clone of Chuck Norris in SCUBA gear - 75000
Storm Crow - 100000
To ensure NPCs are not quickly overtaken by players, they will all start out allied to each other and Neutralia (aka Russia), which is the country I will be playing as. This is to ensure each and every player will be able to experience the war mechanics, no matter how good at diplomacy they may be.
