Civilization 5 - Game of the Month Training Series Game 34
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\//////////////////////////////////////////

Welcome to the thirty-fourth game in the GOTM V Training Series! There are plenty of new features in Civilization 5 to explore and the Training Series games will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out these new features in a friendly environment. You are all encouraged to post your questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads described below. You can read more about the GOTM and Training Series concept in this thread. Before going into the details of this game, we would like to ask you to abide to our most sacred rule: don’t replay any turns. If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. It's better to do the bad moves in the Training Series instead of in the actual GOTM competition, once it starts.

In this game, the designated VC is Science. You may win by any VC you wish, as all VC's are enabled, but the results will be posted with fastest finish by Science victory and then all other VC listed below by fastest time.

In this game you will play as Hiawatha and lead The Iroquois civilization to victory. It's a standard-sized mystery map played at Prince difficulty and at standard pace. Science victory is the designated VC for this game, all victory conditions are enabled. You will have until May 15th to complete the game and submit.

Very happy to have out Mac players back with us, hope you enjoy the game. :)

Please note that you are only allowed to build Oxford University one time. :nono:

Civ V - TSG34 Game Settings:
Playable Civ: Hiawatha - The Iroquois
Number of AI Opponents: 7
Number of City-States: 16
Map type: Mystery
Map Size: Standard

Game Version: This game was created in Civ5 version 1.0.1.511

In this game, you will be playing as Hiawatha, you possess The Great Warpath. Your units move through Forest or Jungle in friendly territory as if it is Road. These hexes can be used to establish trade routes upon researching The Wheel.

You can train the Mohawk Warrior, which replaces the Swordsman. The Mohawk Warrior is as powerful as the Swordsman in clear or hilly terrain but receives a significant bonus in forest or jungle. You must discover the technology of Iron Working and you do not need a resource to build it.

You can build the Longhouse, which replaces the Workshop. The Longhouse increases the city's production by adding 1 hammer for each forest tile worked by the city. You must discover the technology of Metal Casting and you do not need a resource to build it.

This is where you will start:

Information about threads associated with TSG
TSG Announcement thread (this one). This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please don’t post any information from a game you have started. Instead use the next thread.

Game In Progress thread. This thread is used to discuss the game once it's on the way. There are no reading or posting restrictions as such (apart from normal decency), although we encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshots. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play.

After Action Report thread. In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state (preferably in the post title) your victory date and score, as recorded in the Hall of Fame, and the most important: your path to glory! , We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the two week period (sorted by date and score). Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after two weeks, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

File Upload System
We now have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "lemme play one more turn" feature)

This game runs for four a month and ends Tuesday, 15 May 2012.

The Save can be found here.

As Hiawatha it would be good to have more forest tiles in the city radius since, with lumber mills and a longhouse, the forest tiles will give excellent production for the late game. Therefore, I am inclined to settle on the hill where the warrior is now. This will bring more of the northern forest tiles into play earlier, as well as giving an extra hammer in the capital from the get-go. However, first I will run the warrior SE-SE to see if I would be missing out on anything special in the fog.

I will move the warrior SSW and see what is wandering south of the settler. If nothing really interesting i will settle on the hill where the warrior is standing. And, for sure, Iroquois=early puppets :)

I think I want a better look across the river, moving the warrior to the silk or across to the forested hill.
I like the warriors hill also.

Warrior SW to the hill across the river from the settler. If nothing there settle NW 1 one so I don't have to build a road to connect to the forest and can build both a watermill and windmill in the capital. Sure the hill will give me 1 more production which helps early on, but the windmill later will give 2 additional production and the hill can be mined for even more production to speed up building the space ship parts.

Monthar, the problem is that if you settle 1NW you have no 2-food tile in your first ring. Slowing down your early growth is not worth it, you're better off settling in place if you really want the Windmill.

I'm thinking of settling on the Hill as well. I want to be closer to the forest, and the extra early production will help getting to the contested wonders (GL, PT, HG).

I'm gonna wait till after I finish Legend of Grimrock before starting though.

Gonna have a go at this, my first CiV Game of The Month.

I have looked through some previous games and am in awe of how quickly some of the players manage to finish games (Tabarnak being a prime example).

I am aiming for completion before turn 300 which for me would be quick!

I think I will move warrior SW on to the hill to see what's down there. Although settling on the NE hill looks best, Forest + Iroquois = Good times. :D

I imagine RA's will be pretty sparse in this game, as the AI don't have a lot of cash at Prince level from what I recall (I currently play Emperor / Immortal).

Prince... Raging Barbs...

I'm planning on trying to really nurture the AI on this one to have enough money for RAs.

Over/under on returned workers/settlers? 4

Well this is cool. After having to bail on the last 2 gotm Im pretty sure I can win this.
And I was just about to make an Iro-Space game!

Looks like the hill for settling, altho first warrior to silk to see.

Agree with warrior hill for a decent start.

Something seems too easy about the start!
