v151.16 Crashes on World Builder Scenarios

unfortunately i don't have much time to test, but VEM has consistently crashed for me when using a WB scenario (see http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=456898), anywhere from turn 5 to turn 12. i have attached my most recent test, including log files, cache and the test scenario i used.

i have narrowed down the issue to something in the Leaders folder previously; however, i won't have a chance to test further for at least a week. any help you can give is greatly appreciated---the game just isn't the same w/o VEM!

the only other mods in use are:

civwilliard v1
infoaddict v16
ingame editor v21

I had the same issue and found out that it seemed onlt to happen when I had placed CS'ses on the map.

It might be related to not setting the difficulty level for CS'ses to "AI - not for players.", but I haven't had the time to test this. It would be great if you could try - otherwise I'll get around to it at some point.

i just saw the new version come out, so I tried the same WB scenario adjusted with v152.12 and all CS assigned a "AI-Not for Player", same result. ctd on turn 5.

previously, all CSs had no difficulty assigned. Additionally, all Civs are playable and had Emperor assigned difficulty assigned. not sure if that helps...
 
So since i noticed that VEM 154 has been fairly stable for the past few days, i decided to try and test a couple more times to see if VEM would support WB scenarios... no luck. Crash to desktop consistenly on turn 4. again, i'm only using civwillard and infoaddict, and always clear cache and moduserdata (as well as emptying out old logs files)

attached are two sets of logs, cache and moduserdata (thought i'd be inclusive) as well as the scenario i've been using to test with. I'm 99% sure there should be no issues with the scenario (e.g. all CSs have "AI - not for human player" difficulties pre-set, per skodkim's advice above), so i'm fairly certain the issue is in VEM (that and it has been a problem since @ least v151).

the second 7z file is another test i ran where i removed the Leaders folder (on a hunch, since doing so has worked before in the past). unfortunately, this attempt crashed on turn 16.

really hoping that this helps, i'd love to be able to use VEM consistently again with scenarios!

Just like to point out that I'm currently playing my second game in a row that is not crashing. Both have been based on wy WB scenario, but instead of starting the map with the scenario I started with the map alone and used the advanced settings to tune the other stuff (number of players, CS'ses, difficulty level, ...).

Upon starting the game I used the mod called something like "Xdragons reveal map" (available via mod browser) to reveal the terrain (this is not permanent - restes upon reload) and then used the fire tuner to do the rest (replace players).

It's not a perfect way (e.g. map stays revealed on original starting location, ...)and it demands some extra work from me but right now I can play without crashes and that is aomething I haven't been able to do for a long time.

Have you tried it with just CiVUP, not VEM? Logs and savegames can't help us identify the cause of a crash because we have very limited debugging tools for mods. I think the only way to track down the problem is a divide-and-conquer search through the folders to identify which one is causing it.

I just installed Civ V Unofficial Patch and Vanilla Enhanced v.154 on a Civ V steam game, and Im trying to play with a map/scenario I made using the sdk... but the game is always crashing after 10~20 turns. I get no problems at all playing this map without the mod. Should the mod work with a custom map/scenario?

EDIT: If I disable VEM (using an "_" in front of the mod´s folder) but leave the Unofficial Patch, the crash stops.

I tried to enable logging, as its suggested, but my Lua log only have this:

So it sounds like it's a problem with one of the vem lua files. We can track it down the same way we did with the last problem: disable half the vem folders, see if it works, disable half of the half, and so on.

Thanks for the reply! It took a bit of test, but here are the results, hope it helps : )

With Leaders - Crashes on turn 11 or 12
Without Leaders but with Terrain (the last one I tested, seems so harmless) - Crashes around turn 30
Without Leaders and Terrain: Couldnt make it crash so far.

Really glad I'm not the only one with the issue - thanks to all for helping test and reporting!
 
It's very strange that it crashes instead of producing a lua error. I've never encountered a problem like this before. Now that we've identified the folders, I'll narrow down the problem further once I have some free time.
 
any chance you've had some time to look into this now that we've got a stable pre-G&K VEM version out there? just curious...

Did you try sinnce v158? I havent had the time to test if the bug is fixed yet, but there's a fix concerning scenarios in that version, which might be related - just have to test it and right now I'm in the middle of a version 157 game...

Great news: with 159.2 I started a scenario and played out 35 turns with no issues! I'll have more time to continue the test tonight, but I'd like to be sure to thank you all, especially Thal, for the fix!
