Civilization 5 - Game of the Month Training Series Game 37
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\//////////////////////////////////////////

Welcome to the thirty-seventh game in the GOTM V Training Series! There are plenty of new features in Civilization 5 to explore and the Training Series games will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out these new features in a friendly environment. You are all encouraged to post your questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads described below. You can read more about the GOTM and Training Series concept in this thread. Before going into the details of this game, we would like to ask you to abide to our most sacred rule: don’t replay any turns. If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. It's better to do the bad moves in the Training Series instead of in the actual GOTM competition, once it starts.

In this game, the designated VC is Science. You may win by any VC you wish, as all VC's are enabled, but the results will be posted with fastest finish by Science victory and then all other VC listed below by fastest time.

In this game you will play as Wu Zetian and lead The Chinese civilization to victory. It's a standard-sized mystery map played at Immortal difficulty and at standard pace. Science victory is the designated VC for this game, all victory conditions are enabled. You will have until July 1st to complete the game and submit.

Very happy to have out Mac players back with us, hope you enjoy the game. :)

Please note that you are only allowed to build Oxford University one time. :nono:

Civ V - TSG37 Game Settings:
Playable Civ: Wu Zetian - China
Number of AI Opponents: 8
Number of City-States: 20
Map type: Mystery
Map Size: Standard
Difficulty Level: Immortal
Game pace: Standard
Game options: Promotion Saving and No City Razing are enabled. Quick Combat is disabled (You can enable it by following instructions in this link.)
Game Version: This game was created in Civ5 version 1.0.1.511

In this game, you will be playing as Wu Zetian, you possess Art of War. The Great General bonus is increased by 15% and their spawn rate is increased by 50%.

You can train the Chu-Ko-Nu, which replaces the Crossbowman. The Chu-Ko-Nu is slightly less powerful than the Crossbowman, but it can attack twice during a turn, giving it a hefty offensive punch. The unit is particularly effective when garrisoned in a city that is under attack. You must discover the technology of Machinery and you do not need a resource to build it.

You can build the Paper Maker, which replaces the Library. The Paper Maker increases the city's acquisition of Science while also providing a boost to the city's intake of Gold. You must discover the technology of Writing to build it.

This is where you will start:

Information about threads associated with TSG
TSG Announcement thread (this one). This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please don’t post any information from a game you have started. Instead use the next thread.

Game In Progress thread. This thread is used to discuss the game once it's on the way. There are no reading or posting restrictions as such (apart from normal decency), although we encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshots. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play.

After Action Report thread. In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state (preferably in the post title) your victory date and score, as recorded in the Hall of Fame, and the most important: your path to glory! , We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the two week period (sorted by date and score). Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after two weeks, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

File Upload System
We now have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "lemme play one more turn" feature)

This game runs for a month and ends Friday, 1 July 2012.

The Save can be found here.

There doesn't look like a lot of food in that starting position. I think I'll move the warrior onto the hill to the south, to see if it would be worth moving next to the mountain.

I hardly play on immortal

I usually go straight for Writing and GL but as I recall, AI will always beat you to it on immortal.

Especially that map look like too few production before Stone Work.

If GLb start is tough on immortal, how about a Hanging Gardens start then? because the food situation does look bleak. tech to math then to masonry.

Only tried immortal on a tsg once, and iirc retired incomplete.

Very excited for this one! I've gotten to the point where I regularly win on Emperor but I have yet to win an immortal game.

I was going to say the same thing!

I think I will move the warrior to the hill northeast of the settler to see if there is any resources in the water. If there are none I will move the settler down a tile or 2, possibly on top of the cotton southwest of the settler.

I did practice shot on immortal with Wu Zetian to see some basics. I found that :

It is possible to build Great Library. Very Likely if you beeline for it.
I get wipeout 50% of the time before I'm done with it. Keep your warriors close.
Just wish for ancient ruin but it's very unlikely that you'll get some.

So I'll change my usual
Scout>Monument>Scout>GL>Nationnal College
for Monument>Warrior>warrior>GL>National College And I might have to skip that second warrior.

After reaching Education, I'll have to go straigh to Machinery. I guess that's the chinese way to take out civilization.

a lot of food can be had in the ocean tiles, it just means working lighthouses into the mix which would throw off general bee-line RA strategies. and that looks vaguely like there might be whales up there. should be fun, i think. might move south and try for the starting spot as a 2nd city too.

also, interesting that it's 8 opponents and 20 CS's, a dynamic im not sure what to make of.

I have not played in ages, well, since TSG22 anyway. Been busy with my last year at university. Time to change that now that I'm all done there and got time the time of a labourer again.
