Greetings, Immortals and would-be Immortals (and indeed any other players of any level), and welcome to the Immortal University.

Here is our Leader:

Here's the opening scene:

The following settings were used to create this map

Before we start, here's the copy & paste bit where I get to pretend that I'm TMIT:

To play, just extract the WB save file into your worldbuilder saves directory, then play it. Use custom scenario if you want some extra settings to tickle your fancy. This series was designed for people learning immortal, so most people here will be at that level or trying to attain it, although deity players are welcome also. Hell, if you want to play this on NOBLE. The intention of this and any other game thread I post is to get better. Play whatever level you need in order to improve.

If you are aspiring IMM+, try to remember to add archery back to the barbs in WB. Every time you don't, a deity AI will kill a kitten, although there are a lot of kittens so it's not the end of the world if you prefer easymode barbs .

I do request people to list their difficulty and speed. In terms of updates, well nobody follows that anyway. Post in the manner you feel comfortable. Typical comparison dates are 1 AD, liberalism, and victory/defeat, as well as any major events. If in doubt, go with that.

We also have an initial Immortal/Normal autosave which is much more convenient since you can avoid all the worldbuilder shenanigans. It comes with my personal seal of approval (not least as my worldbuilder edits may contain hideous game-destroying errors that could cause your computer to explode ).

Yay! Gogo rome, Bit torn on this start though, The marble is nice later on for GL and even if we wanted to do some sort of oracle gambit with rome, but the food is meh. I suppose we could move the warrior 1SW to see if there is anything below the cap or 1NEon the hill for maximum visibility. SIP unless something good comes up. Gonna try this one for sure, havent played rome in awhile.

Spoiler :

Turns out moving on the hill is the best position, and moving the cap 1N is a good idea :)

Remember barbs can show up till much later than normal on Inland Sea as not all land gets spawn busted by AI settling due to map edges :)

Hoping it will be a nice start for everyone :p

I gave the game a try but

Spoiler :
The random number god hates me. Lost my initial warrior against a panther that was crossing a river. My second warrior god beaten to the brink of death at 0,1 against a lion crossing a river. Thrid warrior beat a barb warrior but to 0,3 at a forested hill. I mean, come on :)

I expanded to a good 7 cities and got into a love block with Sury and Justinian. We all love each other so my borders are protected. I teched up to music and I am only a few techs behind. Not bad for a beginning emperor player.

About the wonders. I got the GW and the mid, but lost parthenon at 3 turns and TGL at 1 turn. Again, I mean come on :p My army is paper thin and everybody is at 0,4 to 0,7 from me so I am building units like mad. Took me a while to get the metals up. But things are shaping up. Don't know if I can finish the game.

I can't tell if it's better to move the Warrior onto the PH or go S with him. I might consider moving onto the Elephants, the Cow can be used by a city to the west and the FPs should give me enough food, but if there's food on the unforested tile SSW I don't want to lose it.

I guess I'd go to the PH to see what I'd be gaining, and if it's desert or other junk then SIP.

I like moving the warrior south, because if there isn't food there you can settle on the plains hill knowing you won't lose food.

I hate to have no fresh water though. 2 :health: can be hard to come by early on.

If you want an oracle gambit, settling ON the marble removes the need to build roads to get it.

Warrior souteast, then if nothing good show up, climb the FPH hoping for an oasis, after that deside...or settle on elephant on T0.

With an Oasis FPH would be great, otherwise it is going to be one sick, literally, site. Likely find 5 fp tiles.

EDIT: Actually hovering over the FPH will tell if there is fresh water access. So ?

No fresh water for the PH. I moved the Warrior S and

Spoiler :
There are riverside (jungle-covered) Gems to be settled for the Cow city west. I settled on the elephants, not a great cap but 3 non-desert hills, 6 FPs and a two-hammer city tile, it'll do.

I had about half hour last night to play so instead of messing up my Pacal BOTM in a hurry, I thought I would play this.

So i settled and played and did a boneheaded things and got a conquest loss. This is not spoilarish. But I will put a spoiler out of respect. Feel free to read it.

Spoiler :
I got a barb warrior on my warriors tail who was badly damaged. I walked him into the safety of culture boundary, and by habbit put him on a forest and immidiately set to heal with the barb in sight/next tile. Usually they do not come in to culture borders this early but since he had a chance to kill the poor wounded Maximus, the Barb went for it and the next turn I get the conquest lost thingy. Anyways, I reload the game from previous turn and brough the Maximus into the city and barb warrior left allowing for me. myself and I to argue about finer skills of Civ4.

So don't place an easy target for the barbs to come and get it when there is no one protecting the city.

As for my game
Spoiler :
Maximus the warrior moved south and found gems. Gus did not want to live without fresh water and knew the FPH was not going to cut it. The Ivory is an early poweful tile and did not feel like settling on it. So settled 1N hoping for more FP's and got an ideal 4 FP (-1 health+4 food) and a bonus wheat.

Found Justin to south, HRE to southeast and Sury to NE. Intend to force Sury to east by placing couple of blocking cities and let Justin come closer. Target 1. This way Sury can DoW at will:lol:

What do people think about a mixed preatorian/elepult attack? Attack date should be quite a bit earlier than a regular elepult because you can start building preatorians just before construction arrives, and then whip elephants in cities with and catapults in cities without stables. Then you use elephants on the cities with axes but no spears in them, and city raider preatorians on everything else (more hammer-cost effective). Haven't played the map yet so don't know if there's iron available to us.

Well if there is no Iron, then it is good old cataphant war to annex iron. Then add Preats to the mix.

Just finished, 1555 Domination, ~285k.

Spoiler :
I settled on the elephants, tech to start was Ag->BW->Wheel->Pottery->Writing->Aesthetics. I farmed a few FPs while I waited for BW, then cottaged everything after. I traded Aesthetics around to backfill and went for the Great Library and Parthenon. I also got the Music GA and Sistine, but missed a late MoM.

My first city went S of the east copper, then a lucky barb city near the river south of my cap saved some room between me and Justinian. I settled two quick cities north and northeast of Rome to block Sury, one to grab the Horse/Wheat and one on a PH for the Rice/Oasis/Cow. I cottaged my cap, destroyed the AI in tech, got MTrad from Lib in ~700 and just whipped/hammered out Cuirs/Cav for the spam win. I was in a love sandwich with Sury and Justinian in Judaism (founded by Sury), so I had a few fake wars but never anything consequential before my final push.

Victory order was Sury->Boudica->SB->Justinian->Shaka/Charlemagne at the same time->WK. I took all of Sury's cities but 1 across the map since he was first, the rest I just capped at first chance.

The weirdest thing that happened to me was taking a barb city to the south. There was an opposing Archer just hanging around the city, and when I took it, that civ immediately DOW'd me. I'm not sure if he was plotting beforehand, but that Archer sat in one of my forests and waited, and that was the only troop I ever saw. Must have really wanted that city :crazyeye:

Overall a really fun map, I'd never played Inland Sea before, the land was awesome.

Too lazy to play this out. Fun game though.

Emperor, 1510

Spoiler :
I settled the elephant in order to save as many flood plains as possible. I didn't want to go bankrupt rexxing.

Built oracle in my capital and took Aesthetics. Proceeded to build the Statue of Zeus, TGL, and NE in capital. Ran slavery and OR most of the early game thanks to Sury, who founded Hinduism and also favorites OR. So he was more concerned with Boudica.

Rexxed to 11 cities by 1 AD.

Won Music a few turns later and did a GA with him. I was way late on an academy in my capital. Instead I bulbed a few things to trade around, and eventually won Lib at like 1200 AD and took Nationalism, built Taj for another GA, I had around 20 cities by then. Never did switch into Bureaucracy. Ran Vasssalage, Theocracy, and Slavery instead. Popped like 7 great generals in total and did some experimenting with Praets and promotions. Capped Sury and Justin with Praets, and Charlie with Curs. Wang is next but he's fairly large and has rifles now, thus my laze-quit.
