The Deadly Mountain

>THE DEADLY MOUNTAIN copyright ©1982 SAFE incorporated.
>
>*Therruk, Nepal. 15,000 feet above sea level.*
>A helicopter slowly lowers itself onto the ground near the village. You, 27 year-old Joseph McKinney, step out. Beyond the foothills, Mount Everest towers above you. You've been here before- in 1976, when you became the youngest man to ever ascend... and survive. The only man who knows more about the mountain than you is up there, and your job is to rescue him. He was last seen here, and from there on we have no evidence of him. Nobody knows what's happened to him, or if he's still alive. But you know he's still alive. This just doesn't make sense...
>You arrive at the village. The chief welcomes you in English- the place has had experience with dozens of climbers in the past. Although the air is thin, various shrubs grow along the nearby stream. You check to see if your belongings are still with you. They are- your watch, assignment, I.D., radio, and camera. Jaranu, a woman in the village, has offered to provide shelter.Ahead of you is the path up to Mount Everest. To your right is the stream. To your left is the village and the chief. Behind you is the helicopter.

...

Hello, Save_Ferris here starting a choose-your-own-adventure game. This is a bit more detailed than RTD, but less involved than Imperium Offtopicum. Basically, in this game you are on Mount Everest trying to find a lost climber. Once you start, you can only do one action per post. As this is supposed to be like an old computer game, actions should be preceded by '>'. Also, only certain actions are allowed:

>Walk_Right
>Walk_Left
>Walk_Forwards
>Walk_Backwards
>Climb_Up (when by climbable item)
>Climb_Down (when by climbable item)
>Pick_Up_[item]
>Use_[item]
>Use_[item]_On_[item/person]
>Say_To_[Person]: [Text]
>Enter
>Leave
>Open_[item]

You can only use items in your inventory, and only pick up found items.

I do not respond to all posts in the same way. For instance, if two posters decide to walk left, different things will happen to them.

If you die, you will respawn with the inventory you had right before dying.

...But enough already, let's start this!

While walking across, a kid runs up to you and speaks in the tribal language, which you are coherent in:
"That stream is sacred! If you go into it bad luck will come upon you tonight. Stay with us, where you will be safe."
In front of you is the beginning of the trail. To your left is a shrine. To your right is a small dog sitting on a rock.

As you walk towards the helicopter, it starts to fly off. There is a small note on the ground, which flies off into the stream as the helicopter blows it away. To the left is the stream. To your right is the village. The note is below you. In front of you is a path sloping down into a forest.

"Oh, Joseph! I forgot to give you this." The helicopter pilot hands you a small, red metal detector. "This is state-of-the-art and senses the direction in which the metal is. Your friend supposedly had a pocket watch with him when he went up." To the left is the stream. To your right is the village. In front of you is a path sloping down into a forest.

You walk into the stream, which, while cold, only comes up to your ankles. The stream continues to your left and right. In front of you is a crude path leading up to a cliff.

Remember, as your direction changes, so does your right and left. Also, your maps aren't the same...

The words of the helicopter pilot ring in your head: "Joseph! There's a time and place for everything. But not now!" You use it anyway, and it loudly beeps. You put it in your backpack.

As you walk ahead on the path, you see dark clouds coming in from behind you. In front of you is boulder that shadows a small niche. To your left and right the trail diverts. Behind you, the kid flips you off from behind the stream. Little prick.

The chief hands you a bow and 10 arrows. "Legend tells of a deadly creature in the mountains. Arrows will stun it, but not kill it. Legend says that the only thing that will kill it is a necklace of protection... Which I am willing to sell for only $14.99!"
"I don't have any money on me."
"A shiny blue rock will do, then."

You are on a narrow path with sharp drops on either side of you. Ahead of you is the cave, which is too dark to navigate safely. You'll need to get a torch from someone in the village.

You check your watch, and the time is 11:00 PM. You can't go at night! You adjust it to Nepalese time, and it is now 11:00 AM. The sun suddenly rises up. You see smoke coming from Jaranu's house.

There is an air current, so there has to be another way out. To your front, left and right is ongoing darkness. Sh*t. You hear a distant growling.

The kid cries, and Jaranu runs up to her. "Mommy, this man wanted me to *BLEEP* myself!"
"Is that so? Well, sir, you are banished from this village!"
Great. Having been kicked out of the only village for miles, you have to either sneak in or hunt to find food. Jaranu and her son walk back to the village.
