DX11 twitchy graphics..

About a hour or so of playing.. most of the "menu" graphics can't be seen.. I see this same type of bug with dx9 version.. except it's not as bad.. eventually all the tiles will stop displaying forests etc. (the dx9 bug)

But the dx11 becomes unplayable.. because city menus can't be seen.. even the save and load doesn't have a response.. I am wondering if it has something to do with ati video cards..

I have i7 2600, 10 gb ram, 6770, win7 64 bit if that helps..??

I'm pretty sure I have my latest graphic drivers too.. I have 1.0.1.674 too.. And I have everything set to high at 1080p except "strategic"

Sure, I'll try.. umm.. does screenshot work in civ.. with the key "Print Screen" key.. or is it something else?

I can probably take a photo too.. :p

Yes, if you hit the print key, it should generate a screenshot in your Documents\My Games\Civ5\Screenshots folder. They're in .tga format, please convert them to .jpg before uploading them :).
Probably png isn't that better..? :p

Hmmm.. .tga files are annoying.. since paint and picture manager don't support them..

I got screenshots of the glitches.. even though they don't look "right"

Images 1 through 3.. are the progression the graphics glitch takes..

Also the 4th picture is of the weird shading thing that happens when hills and forests or whatever lose their textures and have some weird "black cloud" thing over them.. (game is still playable) it always happens on dx9 after a few hour or maybe dropping to windows a few times.. but surprisingly this shot is when running dx11

Yah, know I thought whatever would fix this is a simple setting or something?

Seems *weird* if I'm the only that has this..?? I re-installed civ5 but yah know.. it occurs to me that.. I had civ5 (original) installed on launch day.. so because I have settings in their from october 2010 (theoretically??) my documents/my games/Sid Meier's Civilization 5

I guess it's possible some old setting wasn't modified.. when I re-installed recently I did civ5 then update 7.. then put on "gods and kings"

I guess, I can consider moving the folder and installing again.. I'm mean I'm not expecting that to fix it.. but I could give it a try.. I'm confused why I'm having this error though..?? figured hundreds of people have ati 6000 series or 5000 series or 8000 series cards.. :D

Okay, might be a performance problem, so it would be good to know your exact hardware (how to).

There've been reports on a gray landscape, these seem to be related, I'd say. Running in windowed mode fixed it for some people, else you might want to take a look at this thread.

I did post my stats..

Nice powerful computer I built myself.. I think my card is actually made by ATI too.. not a re-brand.. :p

Yah, this may be my problem.. (but for the record my maps are just standard 2 continents/8 players.. nothing fancy!) too bad they didn't post screenshots.. there right the texture engine is lame/cheap.. I mean civ4 had its bugs in the beginning.. but I don't remember it being that bad.. just super long loading times.. :D (or loading crash's once in a while.. uhh...) Actually, I'm wrong.. I remember civ4 kind of loading textures all weird like in front of your eyes.. sometimes..

In comparison though I have to say.. I would wait upwards of 40 seconds a load or maybe a minute or two at times for civ4.. this one is plain simple.. load times are 20 seconds maybe.. hmm.. if only I'd buy a SSD.. could maybe get that down.. :)

Posting the directX diagnostic would let us know if your video drivers are up to date, that would be one thing to make sure of.

Have you varified local files in steam, until you get the message "All files varified successfully"? That should replace any corrupted graphics files.

If not, then waiting until firaxis resolves all the issues with the latest patch, is the only option.

In regards to an SSD, it may not be the SSD itself that helps, but getting steam and all related games on another drive, may help in constant writing and re-writing of the main hard drive.

I found on a below specs computer, that moving steam and games onto an USB thumb drive cut out all of the file corruption that I was getting. With your system there should not be that big of problem. Hard drives are strange animals when it comes to reading and writing and some types may be more susceptible to error. Technically a SSD should not be that prone to reading and writing unless it is a hybrid. I am not saying that an ATI GPU is the culprit, but the game was designed around an Nvidea GT 430. Just saying. I am sure they double tested ATI GPU's also.

I dunno.. if this is what you want.. but there yah go.. :)

I get weird graphics glitches too. Sometimes forests disappear, but you can see the "shadow" for the tress.

And menus can get quite funky/flashing.

This happened in vanilla too

Still experiencing the same bug/glitch with the latest.. 1.0.1.1075 though I haven't seen the texture/shader/no trees/mountain bug.. most times now.. I'll just play for a while 2-3 hours and then it will slowly and then quiet quickly destablize the graphics.. where I can't see menu's even though they popped up! (this is dx11) have to task manager the application..

The pictures don't do the bugs justice.. in fact what they show.. isn't what I see everytime.. just a loss of menu's and their failure to pop-up....

One of these days I might pop in some latest greatest nvidia card.. see if I like civ more with that..

I very rarely have all the menus disappearing too (speaking of pre G&Ks times). They start flickering and then disappear completely. This mainly happens after the game has been running for a day or several and is often preceded by red anchor points appearing which are connected to several red lines when a unit is moved (they also flicker like crazy). HD5850 - for the most time I used I believe the Feb or March 2012 drivers. Now I'm on the latest driver, but I didn't play long enough yet to say it's not happening now anymore.

Might make screens or a video if it happens again...

Same here: it happens after I'm playing for a while (I always use the DX11 mode). If I continue playing the game crashes after a few turns.

I have all the latest patches for everything.

Maybe it's the temperature... but I never had similar problems with other graphical demanding games like Skyrim or Crysis 2.

Yup. My PC has NO problems with Skyrim.
I do not play Crisis but, I am sure my rig can handle it just fine.

I've been getting this now too. Mid game-ish. (Industrial for me anyways. Ren for them ;))
I have used a house fan on my opened case and that helped some.
Shutting off my PC for 1/2 hour to let it cool down really helps.

I figure some of this is good ole plain HEAT.

My system is not the greatest but it is far from the lowest out there.
Antheon X4 955 (4 core)
16gb ram.
Win7 Enterprise 64bit.
nVidia 550ti 1gb.
256gb SSD boot drive.
And a 1tb hard drive for loading up my programs games.
ONLY the basics for Windows and Office are on the boot drive.

I also have a really nice Creative Sound Card.
(X-Fi Fatal1ty Sound Card that makes a WORLD of difference. Side Note: Get a Sound Card. Do NOT depend on the On Board Sound)

I think I will move the sound card away from the video card for better air flow.

Still this game should NOT be doing this.
Not after ALL these years of this same damn bug on huge maps.
I forget the name of the Huge Earth Map I dnloaded but, it had high marks on Steam so I gave it a shot.
It is a Mod I suppose since it is all set up with Civs and all.
I really like this map.
Best Earth Map I have ever seen with 'reasonable resources & locations' (that are believable) and the Civs are in the correct places for the most part.

So I think HEAT is a factor. I wish I could aim an AC unit at my box.
I will be damned if I am going to hook up Liquid Cooling.
Hell, my system has 4 fans inside now.
The best case I have ever owned for cooling and space to put things.
Still there is something also to the game it's self with this problem.

Is that thread about that 'work around' by changing things for the Terrain to 4096 still relevant for this version of Civ V?
I am seriously thinking of trying it...But I am not sure if it is still a viable 'Solution' or 'Fix' anymore.

BTW: This has been really hard trying to type all of this on my Wife's PC while mine 'cools off'.
Thanks for any and all helpful replies.
I have been pretty quite on this forum but, I have played Civilization since it first came out in the very early 1990's.

I was taking a class for electronics in 1991 and we ALL (instructors too) ended up playing Civ #1 back then...haha!

As far as I know "my problem" was not caused by heat.. simply exiting civ (however I did it) and then starting back up fixed it.. just was "annoying" sometimes it was hard to exit
