Gods & Kings Demo is on steam!

Firaxis have released a (free) Gods & Kings demo on steam. The demos is standalone - I.e. it does not require the base game to play.

You can download the demo direct from steam here:

Alternatively, find it in steam under "Demos".

Note that there are also some new videos available on the demo site.

The demo seems like it's the same size as the expansion. What are the limits on it?

There are only 2 main menu options available: Single Player and Options. When you choose Single Player, you can only choose "play now" with the following settings: Boudicca, Pangaea, Tiny map, Prince difficulty, Standard speed.

You can play only against Attilla, Dido, and William. I played game for about 100 turns, met the city-states Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, and Brussels. I started a second game just to see what was the same and what was different...the map was different (they are being randomly generated, not a single map for the demo), and I met Singapore, so I'm not sure if there's certain city-states allowed in the demo or not.

I made it past turn 100 without a problem so I'm not sure if there's a turn limit...but you can't save your game

Is this demo only for PC users? The expansion really isn't that much money, but I'm trying to focus so I've kinda sworn not to buy it until I complete some other tasks... ;-)

Even if it worked, there would be no way to load it, since the "load game" option is grayed out.

The demo gets stuck when I use the Great Prophet to try and choose a religion. It won't let me, and it's not possible to move to the next turn.

F12 is supposed to be quick-load though. I assume you don't need to go into the Load menu for that.

You've probably found out already how to do it (you can read the "how to" in the advice window that pops up), but just in case...

The "Found Religion" button is greyed out at the beginning, even if you select a religion.
After you choose the 2 unlocked believes (founder and follower, if I remember correctly), the button becomes available.

The demo looks pretty good. I'm glad the game has been expanded. I'll be buying Gods & Kings soon.

The demo won't let you play with spies!
As soon as you hit the Renaissance, it's game over.
Otherwise the turn limit is 150.

I just managed a Domination Victory in turn 149! The game ends.

Attilla even reconquered a city, which I had taken control of the turn before. These ramms are really strong.

The AI is still awaiting being conquered most of the time - on prince difficulty. In one close game - all civs had about the same number of points. Dido and Attilla declared war on me on the very same turn. And now guess how many units they sent towards me:

That's awesome that you won a game in the demo. You should petition for a new hall of fame category for demo wins.

I just wanted to post another way to end the demo before turn 150.
