Black "crawly things" on diplomacy screens

Hey all,

Just picked up a new Macbook Pro and upped the graphical settings in Civ 5 to max. Runs smoothly, but when I open up a diplomacy screen, this happens:







These "bugs" quickly crawl across the leader. It's pretty creepy actually. Any way to get rid of them?

The maximum settings for the game require DirectX11 stuff, and the leaders are very special about that. But DirectX is a Microsoft technology, and on Macs OpenGL is used...and I don't think OpenGL is able to display the same things like DX11.

But only a Mac user will be able to anser that, therefore the movement.

Ah, that explains why there's nothing above the "medium" setting. To clarify, I'm using the medium setting. I also tried the "low" setting, but that simply made the bugs "crawl" faster.

It's a problem with the HD4000, which is technically unsupported. We've got it logged to look at fixing the problem.

Yow. Sounds like a pretty high priority bug given that most new macbooks have it. Hoping for a fix with the next patch then. Thanks for the info =)

hope you don't mind me asking in your topic, but apart from the issue you've highlighted, how is the performance on the 13" MacBook pro? Have been thinking of getting the new 13" pro and would like to know how civ v runs on this machine especially on larger maps later in the game?

EDIT: Wow, nevermind, that is the 13"! I'm now very curious, how DOES the game run in general?

Sadly, not too great. I'm hoping it's the graphics card, so that if they release a compatibility patch for it we might see some serious improvements. Also, it gets steadily worse during a long session for whatever the reason.

Examples from my current late game on a 10-player continents map, graphics set to medium-ish:
Zooming out is not recommended. Not at all.
Opening up any city screen chugs the game up real bad due to the zoom out.
Opening the diplomacy tab takes 2-3 seconds.
Scrolling is not nearly smooth even zoomed in.
Battle animations are smooth.

So yeah, if Civ is your #1 reason for getting a new computer, might want to go for the higher end 15 inch Macbook.
