Greetings, Immortals and would-be Immortals (and indeed any other players of any level), and welcome to the Immortal University.

Here is our Leader:

Here's the opening scene:

The following settings were used to create this map

Before we start, here's the copy & paste bit where I get to pretend that I'm TMIT:

To play, just extract the WB save file into your worldbuilder saves directory, then play it. Use custom scenario if you want some extra settings to tickle your fancy. This series was designed for people learning immortal, so most people here will be at that level or trying to attain it, although deity players are welcome also. Hell, if you want to play this on NOBLE. The intention of this and any other game thread I post is to get better. Play whatever level you need in order to improve.

If you are aspiring IMM+, try to remember to add archery back to the barbs in WB. Every time you don't, a deity AI will kill a kitten, although there are a lot of kittens so it's not the end of the world if you prefer easymode barbs .

I do request people to list their difficulty and speed. In terms of updates, well nobody follows that anyway. Post in the manner you feel comfortable. Typical comparison dates are 1 AD, liberalism, and victory/defeat, as well as any major events. If in doubt, go with that.

We also have an initial Immortal/Normal autosave which is much more convenient since you can avoid all the worldbuilder shenanigans. It comes with my personal seal of approval (not least as my worldbuilder edits may contain hideous game-destroying errors that could cause your computer to explode ).

Sorry its late, not been well over the last few days.
Settings somewhat inspired by WastinTime 5million points attempt so as a side contest we can see who gets highest score here.
Worldbuilder saves should be up in next day or so as i get time to do them. Also for some reason I put 61 instead of 81 as the name :)

now...this one is tricky and nice start in 1... really not sure where to settle...like at all

move 1E for the other corn?
settle on gold for corn and GLH??

gosh...too tricky

1SE keeps Fresh Water, and picks up 2nd Corn + possible more riverside grass and/or floodplains. Great Lighthouse does seem a priority with mapscript thou :)

Clearly, the best move is to settle on the blue circle. There must be like three golds up there, or something.

Looks like 1SE will get 4 FPs instead of the 3 with SIP, which will still be only 1 :yuck: due to shortening rules. Overall that might be the best move too as there will be 2 food resources.

What's to the south of the river though, is it hills or mountains? I can't tell.

May try this map later as I'm trying to move up to Immortal at some point.

1SE and 1N2E both seem pretty strong positions. Get 1 wet and 1 dry corn along with Gold which is awesome :)

I will settle 1SW on plains hill. The idea being to have a gold city east and perhaps a city north. Bureau cap. The production for settlers will also help.

The flood plains will make capital growth faster. Looks a good, strong start.

Hmm T9 and i have a decision to make :)

So i moved the Warrior 1NW to confirm if the tile was a 2nd Oasis or a Floodplain, since it was a Floodplain by moving 1SE I give up a Hill and 2 Floodplains for the 2nd Corn. Settled 1SE and started teching Agriculture.

Scouted abit more and met Vicki on T6, so she had to be fairly close. Headed the way her scout had come from and quickly spotted her borders. I moved onto a Hill next to her borders to scout what her lands were like and see a Worker right next to me farm a Corn.
I halted there and I very rarely Worker Steal, and decided to get advice, is Vicki a good target, is it worth the risk since I can see Scout and may be able to kill it to get peace. With the route not spawn bust is it too risky to let the worker run by himself without a warrior escort?

What I've seen so far

I consider this a win
Spoiler :

-Insane start, both capitol and the area around
-I did settle in place, settled 5 cities peacefully
-Cata rushed england (didnt have feudalism at this point so didn't vasalise her
-Continued on Darius, who is now my vassal
-Tech lead, most cities, decent army in case someone DoW me, and a fast teching vassal as a bonus

Pants = down.

Spoiler :
Settled on gold, built TGL and rexed. I settled the fish site up in Russia's grill with the 6th settler but barely touched borders. He plotted quickly, cautious with me, and I prayed he would hit China instead (who shared a longer border) but he invaded me instead. I was teching Aesthetics in pursuit of trading it around, and didn't have copper or horse, so I quit. What I should have done, I guess, with that 6th settler, is take the 2nd gold and gift a gold to him, then try to get the fish in his backyard with the 7th settler, although I feel like by that point he'd have settle it and I'd be forced to pushing into jungle. Will give another go maybe later.

I am at T9 and I have a decision to make
Spoiler :
I wanted to settle 1SE but I thought about using the settler extra movement point 1S first. Saw another gold and settled. What a great capitol and incentive to play the game further :)
Met Peter in the East and Vicky in the West. Who should I spy on?

I am a dork. I played this thinking it was Zara instead of Joao. Yes I am embarrassed and placed cities to use his culture advantages with AI and then was shocked to find the first city is getting culture pressure instead. I need more sleep. So i did...go to sleep instead of playing. I know...I am getting weak in my old age.

Spoiler :

1790 AD conquest

Pretty easy considering the capital and surrounding land were good for cottages. I launched my attack in 1040AD or something with drafted rifles + trebs (steel to follow soon after) at Darius and proceeded to wipe the continent. Too bad there was not marble nearby.

My tech path was roughly CS -> Aesthetics -> Lit (GL) -> Music -> Paper (trade CS and something for philo) -> Nationalism (TM -> pacifism) -> 1 bulb into printing press, 1 bulb into education -> self tech guilds, banking -> Lib rep parts, etc... Lost MoM by 1 turn, I don't know if it's smart to build those wonders without marble. I guess it's easier not having to think and do what I'm familiar with...

The crowd was a religious mess. There were 3 main sects and people were warring constantly. I wasn't forced to war until shortly before i got my rifles.

To 100 AD...

Spoiler :
Lots of riverside land and a capital which can whip out Settlers quickly AND pay for the cities, what more do we want? I 2-whippled out some of them while taking care to work the Gold on regrowth, settled to the west along the river (not even needing roads!). Built no wonders at all, just spammed cottages everywhere and beelined Alphabet - only one other AI had even Writing by that time! Education and around 200 stable BPT by 100 AD is decent.

Lots of different religions around so I chose to stay without one. The only real competitor is Victoria who has nine cities and almost researches as fast as myself.

The tech advantage will have to be translated into conquest eventually, pity there are no horses for Cavalry. It will be Rifles + Trebs I guess, with almost no production capacity some upgraded Macemen and some draftees from setting up the Globe Theater by the city in the north (Fish + Corn) will be needed.
