Gods and Kings More Mercantile Mod

More Mercantile Mod

This mod adds new Luxury Resources for Mercantile City States into the game. The changes are purely for flavor and they have little effect on the games themselves. The Gods and Kings expansion pack is required to use this mod (Both for Mercantile City States, and for the icon used for Manuscripts).
The resources added are:

Chocolate

Spoiler:
Chocolate is a raw or processed food produced from the seed of the tropical Theobroma cacao tree. Cacao has been cultivated for at least three millennia in Mexico, Central and South America. Its earliest documented use is around 1100 BC. The majority of the Mesoamerican people made chocolate beverages, including the Aztecs, who made it into a beverage known as xocolatl, a Nahuatl word meaning "bitter water". The Europeans sweetened and fattened it by adding refined sugar and milk, two ingredients unknown to the Mexicans. By contrast, the Europeans never infused it into their general diet, but have compartmentalized its use to sweets and desserts. In the 19th century, Briton John Cadbury developed an emulsification process to make solid chocolate, creating the modern chocolate bar. Although cocoa is originally from the Americas, today Western Africa produces almost two-thirds of the world's cocoa.

Manuscripts

Spoiler:
A Manuscript or Handwrit is written information that has been manually created by one or more people, such as a hand-written letter, as opposed to being printed or reproduced some other way. The term may also be used for information that is hand-recorded in other ways than writing, for example inscriptions that are chiselled upon a hard material or scratched (the original meaning of graffiti) as with a knife point in plaster or with a stylus on a waxed tablet (the way Romans made notes), or are in cuneiform writing, impressed with a pointed stylus in a flat tablet of unbaked clay.

Tea

Spoiler:
Tea is an aromatic beverage commonly prepared by pouring boiling hot water over cured leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. The term also refers to the plant itself. After water, tea is the most widely consumed beverage in the world. It has a cooling, slightly bitter, astringent flavour which many people enjoy.

Glass

Spoiler:
Glass is a solid material that is typically transparent and brittle and has been used for centuries in windows and drinking vessels. The history of creating glass can be traced back to 3500 BCE in Mesopotamia. The term glass developed in the late Roman Empire. It was in the Roman glassmaking center at Trier, now in modern Germany, that the late-Latin term glesum originated, probably from a Germanic word for a transparent, lustrous substance. The center for luxury glassmaking from the 14th century was the island of Murano, which developed many new techniques and became the center of a lucrative export trade in dinnerware, mirrors, and other items. What made Venetian Murano glass significantly different was that the local quartz pebbles were almost pure silica, and were ground into a fine clear sand that was combined with soda ash obtained from the Levant, for which the Venetians held the sole monopoly.

Furniture

Spoiler:
Furniture is an object that is intended to support various human activities such as seating and sleeping. Furniture is also used to hold objects at a convenient height for work (as horizontal surfaces above the ground), or to store things. Furniture can be a product of design and is considered a form of decorative art. In addition to furniture's functional role, it can serve a symbolic or religious purpose. Furniture can be made from many materials, including metal, plastic, and wood. Furniture can be made using a variety of woodworking joints which often reflect the local culture.

Cigars

Spoiler:
Cigars are tightly-rolled bundles of dried and fermented tobacco that are ignited so that their smoke may be drawn into the mouth. Cigar tobacco is grown in significant quantities in Brazil, Cameroon, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Mexico, Nicaragua, the Philippines, and the Eastern United States. The word "cigar" originated from the word "cigarro" in Spanish, which probably came from the Mayan "sikar" ("to smoke rolled tobacco leaves" – from sik, "tobacco;") or from the Spanish word cigarra ("grasshopper"). However, the word itself, and variations on it, did not come into general use until 1730. New names for cigars include "Jules", "Havana", "Vitole" and "Puro". An older alternate spelling is "segar", not uncommon in 19th century signs and advertisements.

More Mercantile Mod 2

Coffee

Spoiler:
Coffee is a brewed beverage with a distinct aroma and flavor prepared from the roasted seeds of the coffea plant. The beans are found in coffee "cherries", which grow on trees cultivated in over 70 countries, primarily in equatorial Latin America, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Africa. Green (unroasted) coffee is one of the most traded agricultural commodities. Coffee is slightly acidic and can have a stimulating effect on humans due to its caffeine content. Wild coffee's energizing effect was likely first discovered in the northeast region of Ethiopia. Coffee cultivation first took place in southern Arabia; the earliest credible evidence of coffee drinking appears in the middle of the 15th century in the Sufi shrines of Yemen. From the Muslim world, coffee consumption and cultivation spread to India, to Italy, and on to the rest of Europe, Indonesia and the Americas.

Artifacts

Spoiler:
Artifacts or artefacts (from Latin phrase arte factum, from ars skill + facere to make) are something made or given shape by man, such as a tool or a work of art, especially objects of archaeological interest. In archaeology, where the term is most commonly used, an artifact is an object recovered by some archaeological endeavor, which may have a cultural interest. Examples include stone tools such as projectile points, pottery vessels, metal objects such as guns, and items of personal adornment such as buttons, jewellery and clothing. Other examples include bone that show signs of human modification, fire cracked rocks from a hearth or plant material used for food.

Paintings

Spoiler:
Paintings are compositions or images made as a result of the act of painting; the practice of applying paint, pigment, color or other medium to a surface (support base). The medium is commonly applied to the base with a brush but other objects can be used. In art, the term painting describes both the act and the result of the action. However, painting is also used outside of art as a common trade among craftsmen and builders. Paintings may have for their support such surfaces as walls, paper, canvas, wood, glass, lacquer, clay, leaf, copper or concrete, and may incorporate multiple other materials including sand, clay, paper, gold leaf as well as objects.

Unfortunately, I haven't found out how to do that, but I'd guess it'd be possible (somehow).

On a related note, so far, testing on multiple large maps, the Mercantile City states seem to always give a consistent ratio of resources e.g. with a total of 4 mercantiles it gives a ration of 2:1:1 on large so there are three types of resources, one is duplicated once and the other two are unique.

weird.

In any case I'm glad you like it!

I think you can do that as a work-around, by creating an unbuildable building (and make it not appear in the civilopedia as well), and then create a LUA check that grants that building to that particular city-state's city, if it doesn't already have it. Naturally, you would use that building to generate the desired resource. Needless to say, the building would be set to be destroyed on capture.

Sounds viable, except it would be immune to capture - Mercentile resources stay on the plot with a CS, even after conquer / marriage

Oh, my mistake. In that case, it's possible to make the building be hidden from the city view screen.

That'd be great, but the wonders will have to be updated first.

You must have read my mind; I've made component requests for some resources that would suit an early Scandinavian culture (amber, barley and honey). It's good that you pointed me in the right directlon, although I would still need help with the graphic designs (I am terrible at creating/editing those).
