C2C - Useful News and Links - Discussion & Organization

Anyone who finds something of value for C2C or CIV, please post the link here!
This thread will be for everyone to discuss any useful links or news that they have found that could be discussed to improve C2C.

This thread could also be used to organize ideas discussed in the Chat thread, The main Cavemen2Cosmos thread, and the controversial thread.
(I plan on connecting this list to the Idea Inspiration & Discussion Thread - link will be placed here)

With everyone's help I intend to keep an updated list of main discussion and ideas here.

This will include:

News: Post the link of any story you find, that helps C2C get better.
(examples: link to science story that pins down the development of a certain technology - useful for placement on the tech tree)

Discussion: Share your link on discussions which are interesting or useful to making C2C a better place. (examples: forums, discussion on technologies, history, programming, debates on making games, creating new games, lists for improving civilization, lists for creating the next civilization, etc)

Resources: Tools, suggested software, useful models (such as 3D from Animal Tycoon), reference maps, charts of terrain, lists of resources, lists of types of units that could be used (ideas themselves could go in the appropriate thread)..

Genre Discussion: Conversation about certain topics and genres like the open discussion for Future and Sci-Fi that I just created (I will add link). General concepts, like religion, future, culture, etc. and major features for C2C can be discussed here.

Specific time-periods and alternate eras (Ex) World War II or Harry Turtledove's alternate World War II discussed in his alternate history books.
Resources
Genre discussion like religion, or culture.
or just some grouped links that have useful discussion on a particular subject.
Like how a certain video game was built, or speculation on how to make the next Civ.
Any conversation or link to more information that adds to the discussion is wanted.

This thread could be very useful in organizing topics that have already been discussed, and also in organizing new threads around major topics that probably should be.
I think this thread would be a good way at organizing additional useful information for C2C for modders and players as well, as opening up discussion about history and general C2C implementation.

If everybody posts some good links, some of the ideas may make into C2C or help to improve it.. Finding the right list or chart could open up options of things to put in C2C.
Who knows?, you could be the one to find it and revolutionize C2C!

The Truth Machine by James Halperin

it is not only a great look at the implication of what such a machine might do today and the near future, but it also a great romp through near future history.
You really should read it. Imagine what it could do to courtrooms and people's marriages.

I figure these ideas are good enough to spark some discussion.

Overcoming it, the universe's heat death, or human transcendence could be an interesting and epic way to set up a epic end game focus for C2C for those who want it.
I still purpose the idea of an epic prehistoric game start as a great introduction to C2C.

Billions of years is absolutely true, I'm sure that gameplay won't be extended much past the galactic era. It is hard to design gameplay or pin down an agreeable future for a dimensional /multiverse era or anything else past creating a galactic civilization. That doesn't mean that there isn't some discussion we can have, or fiction/resources out there that explore the subject.

I vote that we explore different ways of playing that future. Part of the fun in participating in these design conversations is in figuring out different ways that the future can play out. It would be nice if we can integrate these different perspectives and design varied gameplay so that the future eras of C2C can stay uncharted, yet the majority of people can enjoy and customize their gameplay.

Opening up debate and discussion on topics like this one will challenge C2C to get even better.

I think we should have more ongoing conversations like this one, especially about general topics like the future in C2C, and also ongoing discussion in this thread about news and links that people find that could move C2C forward.

I think that this focused thread is the best place to post and discuss good links to news and resources to improve C2C. This way we can keep track of them.

The question is if the universe could tear it self apart from anywhere between 16.7 billion years and a hundred or so billion years how would we know where to end the game

Just something that could be overcome as a project. I think the future eras need to be extremely flexible in time-periods. Multiverse or dimensional travel would overcome the need to survive the end of the universe and could be developed a lot earlier.

I think of overcoming the end of the universe as more of a late game, after galactic era expansion project.

Scientists have found that Native American populations -- from Canada to the southern tip of Chile -- arose from at least three migrations, with the majority descended entirely from a single group of First American migrants that crossed over through Beringia, a land bridge between Asia and America that existed during the ice ages, more than 15,000 years ago.

Two striking exceptions to this simple dispersal were also discovered. First, Central American Chibchan-speakers have ancestry from both North and South America, reflecting back-migration from South America and mixture of two widely separated strands of Native ancestry. Second, the Naukan and coastal Chukchi from north-eastern Siberia carry 'First American' DNA. Thus, Eskimo-Aleut speakers migrated back to Asia, bringing Native American genes.

The team's analysis was complicated by the influx into the hemisphere of European and African immigrants since 1492 and the 500 years of genetic mixing that followed. To address this, the authors developed methods that allowed them to focus on the sections of peoples' genomes that were of entirely Native American origin.
