Welcome to stGMNES.
Storyline: Following the end of World War II, the world settled into a period of peace forced by the development of nuclear weapons. The two world superpowers (the USA and USSR) fought a war of words, and the powers of the globe were drawn up into two armed camps: on one side, the Democracies, and on the other, the Communisms. As America or her allies, force the Soviet juggernaut to extinction through economic war and aiding nations fighting them. As the Soviets or her allies, conquer the globe and force your political ideology upon the heathen Imperialists. This NES gives you the chance to replay the wars in Korea and Vietnam, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Reunification of Germany, and the crises in the Middle East. Would you have done things differently? Find out!
Rules:
This is a story NES. That means that the game is moved along by player-told stories. To play, just choose a nation and begin writing orders and stories.
The game is essentially limitless, with you're imagination being the boundaries. However, there are a few concepts that you must understand. Nations' stats are divided up into 6 basic categories: army size, navy size, air force size, economy, living standards, and faith in leader. These are all fairly self-explanatory, but I will go more in-depth with them farther down the page. Also, there are technologies that must be developed in order to advance in the game. These will also be explained later.
Military: This is your nation's armed forces. It consists of Army, Navy, and Air Force. The Army fights land battles; the Navy fights sea battles and can support amphibious landings; and the Air Force can attack land and naval units, bomb enemy infrastructure, and carry out strategic strikes with atomic weapons. The sizes are Tiny, Small, Medium, Large, Huge, and Gigantic. If you are in an economic Depression, you can only support Small-sized services. Any other economic level can support any size military.
Economy: This is how rich your nation is. The economy is based on many things. Having a large empire, trading with foreign countries, owning rare resources (like oil), and being paid reparations by a defeated enemy increase the economy. If you are in a Depression, building the military will get you out, but military building will not effect any other economic level. Economic sizes are Depression, Recession, Breaking Even, Growing, Prosperous, and Booming.
Living Standards: This is how well the people in your nation live. The higher your living standards, the happier and more productive people are. Low living standards will cause people to become unhappy and possibly rebellious. Living standard levels are 3rd, 2nd, and 1st World.
Faith In Leader: This is how well-liked your nation's leader is. If you are well-liked, your nation is more likely to resist foreign enemies and fight better. If you're people's confidence level is Rebellious, your nation may collapse into turmoil, leading to changes in government or even the breakup of your empire. Faith levels are effected by living standards, economy, and warfare. If you are winning a war, your popularity will rise. If you are losing a war, or the war is dragging on for long periods of time, your popularity will decrease. Faith levels are Rebellious, Uncertain, Shaky, Certain, Enthusiastic, and Absolute.
Technology: New technologies are the key to building stronger militaries and more powerful nations. Each new technology takes 5 turns to develop (3 for Scientific nations). You may research one tech at a time for free, but if you research multiple techs it costs you economy. For every extra tech you research per turn, your economy drops by one level.
Traits: Every nation also has 2 traits. These are based on the traits from Civ3. They are:
Expansionist: You can more easilly take and hold land. Your troops move faster. Also, if a neighboring country breaks up, one of the new territories may annex to you.
Militaristic: Your military is stronger and more effective. You can build your military faster (2 turns instead of 3). Wars do not hurt your people's Faith as much.
Scientific: You can research new techs faster (only 3 turns).
Industrious: You can finish projects faster (except for military, all stats can be increased in 2 turns.) Also, military building is more likely to get you out of a Depression.
Commercial: Trade, imperialism, and conquest are more lucrative. You may increase your economy and living standards faster (2 turns.)
Religious: Your people are more loyal to you. They are less likely to rebel, and will fight more fiercely on the defensive.
Upgrading Stats/Researching Techs:
Unless you have an applicable trait, it takes 3 turns to upgrade every stat and 5 turns to develop a new tech.
