During his time in the 2nd SSD Crumpet proved an exceptionally skilled soldier, being considered for promotion at least once. Mission One: Hammerdown Debriefing​

"We don't know who the Xenid are. We don't know what they want. We don't know where they're from. We know they're dangerous."

The mission began with a quick briefing on the nature of the Xenid threat. In short, all humanity knows is that they wear 12 foot (4 meter) tall suits of powered battle armor, with wrist-mounted stun cannons on one arm and chainsaws on the other.

DUE TO: Lord Crumpet analyzing Xenid power armor(roll of 19) you now know where to target in order to hit their power supply(hips) and that there is a bag of something you feel sure is grenades on their backs.

DUE TO: Corporal Mary Evans' experiences prior to the attack, you know that the armor is weak at the shoulders, knees and groin, the latter of which is apparently a killshot even if the armor will continue to function if the wearer is dead. AI of some sort?

The team landed in a village in the Netherlands, aiming to find out why the Xenid were so focused on attacking it with their strange disc-like ships - reminiscent of President Dale's prototype escape craft in the end of the Atlantic War. The mission began fairly easily, pushing down the town's main street into the central square.

Corporal Evans quickly earned the squad's enmity by calling Andropov a "stupid Russkie" among other less sanitary things while Sven was in earshot. While Sven and Evans were having an argument, Red, Crumpet, Carla and Andropov chased a little girl they saw walking from a nearby building. When they caught up to her, the girl spoke a weird language no one knew, until Andropov finally asked if she was Xenid.

Andropov collapsed to the ground holding her head and screaming at this point. Carla and Crumpet killed the girl, solving whatever Andropov's problem was, while Sven, Evans and new arrival Wefer ran up to join them. Five Xenid battlesuits attacked, one of which used a stun cannon to knock Sven out, but there were no other casualties due to Carla's liberal use of land mines.

Sven, Crumpet and Carla pushed into the building that the girl had come from, scanning a normal house until they found a teenage girl cowering in a study. She called herself Annalies and asked if Crumpet's team was part of "the rebels" and begged for shelter against "the Overlords". After some prodding by Crumpet, she revealed that "the Overlords" are in fact the Xenid, and spoke about them as though they had taken over the Earth long ago. In fact, the very name "Xenid" is one that the aliens apparently hate with a burning passion - similar to a racist slur.

Crumpet tranquilized the girl and brought her with the team as they were making for the escape chopper, but a Xenid ship landed in the town as they tried to escape. Ten Xenid and a strange matronly woman emerged from the ship, forming up to charge. Thanks to a lucky 19 from Wefer's rocket launcher and some incendiaries from Carla, only four made it into combat with the team in melee, while Carla also shot the matronly woman after she started flying and her eyes began to glow.

Evans called an air strike as the fight began, and managed to keep her designator pointed at the ship long enough for the jets to swoop in and destroy it just as the fight finished. Carla and Wefer reacted badly to this, while Sven helped a stunned Andropov into the chopper and Crumpet pulled Annalies in. Everyone entered the helicopter, and when Andropov woke up she seemed sick - something she shared with Annalies.

The team's next mission was then revealed: the Xenid are attacking Florence, Andropov and Sven's home city in Italy. They're going back to ensure the safety of the friends watching their daughter Nadia, and the team is going with them for a slightly more strategically important reason: the aliens are roaming the city demanding "Dale" and saying "he has a debt to pay".

President Christian Dale of the USA has been dead for 11 months.

Your objectives next mission are simple: get little Nadia to safety and find out what they want with a dead president.

Well, we're all diving right back into the thick of it again. Since the end of the 2nd SSD we've been doing little odd operations all over, but it looks like things are getting hot again. Was woken up by an emergancy order to head to the breifing room, and who was there but Andropov? Apparently she'd been hauled back in as a Major, and was taking over the SSD again. Bit of a shock really, but nothing compared to what came next.

Turns out that Germany was being hit by 'the Xenid' a bunch of unknown creatures who were going through our defences like a hot knife through butter. We were thrown in to an intelligence gathering op against one of their forward teams in the Netherlands, along with a 'Corpral Evans' from the colonies. She's a bit of a pain to work with, but at least holds her own in a fight.

The Op went fairly well for something like that: we got in and out without much trouble, gathered a little intel, and found a bunch of people acting a bit out of it. 2 of them died, but we brought back one of them pretty much unharmed. Hopefully she'll be able to tell us something.

Next op will be a run down to Florence, where apparently the Xenid are looking for old Dale. Not sure they've quite grasped he was a colonial yet...
