Welcome to hell.

Falshire, a small village on the edge of the Jaldren/Kingdom of Asindra border is one of the first stops from Trader’s Landing on the road to Asindra. Oftentimes the merchants and traders stop by and sell some of their goods at Falshire, and once in a while a caravan stops by to the enjoyment of all. However, it is the end of the trading season and the beginning of winter and only a few hardy travellers and traders make the long trek now, many of the major companies don’t bother working in winter, the bonuses they have to pay to get the traders going are never worth it. The independent traders and the smaller companies do pledge to the trek, of which the village of Falshire is eternally grateful.

The first corpse was found on the road out of the town. The old Watchman sighed to himself and began to walk slowly over to the body. He hadn’t seen a corpse in a long while, not since the last great war, but now death had caught up to him it seemed. The man was laid out flat on the hard, uneven ground, eyes staring into the sky. A knife lay in his gut, a square of paper stabbed through blade. The Watchman crouched over the body and ripped the knife from the man’s body in one fluid motion. He freed the piece of paper and pocketed the knife. Turning it over in his hands he saw the message written on it.

“It is time for you to understand what true horror is, Watchman."

The Watchman’s eyes became hard and his hand went to the knife he just pocketed. He brandished the knife and looked around. His eyes scanned the horizon to the east. Nothing. The south. Nothing. The west. Nothing. The village. Noth-

Wait.

What was…

His eyes focused on a humanlike figure, with a painted mask, that looked like some kind of demonic creature on it. The… thing grinned unnaturally wide as the Watchman stared in shock. Its teeth white as snow, its body black as night. He saw as it changed shape into the man on the ground, and then into an unfamiliar face. After a few seconds passed, the thing ran off into the village. The Watchman grabbed his horn and blew it.

-----------------------------

“Someone here is a killer,” the Watchman said to the villagers. “I found a body just outside the village, with a knife and a message left specifically for me. It’s as if they knew that I would find the body. We have to find the killer.”

“That sounds mighty suspicious there watcher.” The baker replied.

“Has the sugar gone to your head baker? There is a killer amongst us, a dead man at our door. That thing changed its shape in front of me. The killer is one of you. We must stop it.

“It could also be you… couldn’t it?” the Merchant said, “I mean you are the only one to see this ‘thing’ that you call it.”

“It could be any one of us. We must decide by sundown and the killer will be killed.”

The townspeople nodded uneasily and went back to their homes. No-one had work on their mind now.

The Watchman went back to the corpse, but it had disappeared, in its place only the print of his body. Soon there would be no evidence that body had ever been there. The Watchman shivered. It was going to be a long winter.

Rules specific to this mNOTW:

This mNOTW has the standards from other NOTW, items, abilities, strength, etc. It also has a couple of unique roles, or at least roles that are not standard to mafia (stressed for importance) games. If you have a question about anything, do ask so I can answer it. If I can't I will tell you so. I am trialling a new system in regards to humanising the game a little more, mostly in regards to items. When you normally get an item, such as a sword in a NOTW, it normally gives you a +1 strength bonus, or something similar. However, in this game, the addition of a weapon to your arsenal, allows you to perform multiple actions. For example, if you have a sword, you may attempt to either kill someone, roleblock someone or protect someone. Keep in mind, that all three are weaker then normal roles. For example, a doctor role might be able to stop an attack of any strength level. But if the scum has a higher strength then both the target and the protector, the target AND the protector can die. Roleblockers are also unable to block above their strength level as well, and vigiliante kills have a chance of backfiring depending on strength level and target and other circumstances.

You may think, well, the town could be overpowered then, we can just vigkill everyone. Which might be true, however, there are only a small amount of weapons in the game, and certain roles may be able to neutralise the items, or even make them backfire. Items have multiple purposes, but they are not as good as abilities.

A few more notes: The game will be winnable by every role. It follows most standard NOTW procedures.

I think that is it for the moment, any questions and suggestions on the above system are welcome!

Thanks for reading. (This will be updated in the future.)

I know I should not, but...

Theoretically, a m-NOTW is supposed to start in the middle of a NOTW, not when it's over. :p

There also may or may not be a twist of some sort thrown in.

Also used to be known for really excellent roleplay by players. The host's stories themselves are excellent, but unfortunately many of the old players have moved on, and there isn't that excellent roleplay anymore.

What's the difference between NOTW and Mafia. And in.

I suppose there will be personal goals for every player.

Also, maybe every player would have the role openly known to others, like "Jarema, the inkeeper", but it seems not always to be a case

There will indeed be personal goals. And yes, each player will be a part of the town, such as innkeeper, baker, butcher, etc.

The role name has no effect on innocence or guilt, or power, or anything.
