I thought that ships could not attack a city (other than by bombardment) but in my latest game a Carthaginian galley attacked a city defended by my Incan musket - and lost. Has anyone heard of this happening before?
This is Civ3 Conquests and it was a standard Carthage galley and not a Byzantine dromon or a Scandinavian berserk that attacked me. It is the Middle Ages so well before marines. I have no ships in port. The galley sailed up to my city, I received the message 'Carthage has declared war on us' and the galley attacked my defending musket. The musket was unscathed but the ship sank. What gives here? I thought only ground units could attack settlements.
The galley in this pic is the active unit, the other troops have already moved.
