As anyone who has read any of my stories, you know I can't get past chapter two ;), which is probably quite annoying to some, so don't worry, I won't annoy you.
But this story will be different. With all of the stories on this thread their are so many different styles of writing, from the history book style to the comical commentaries. After reading so many, I thought 'Wouldn't it be cool to have a story with each chapter by another author?'
So I decided to start one! Each author will play his/her chapter and then relay the game onto the next. If anyone is interested, post here and we can start a story!

Any style is accepted, so I encourage you to be creative and different. Anyone can have a chapter, so don't be afraid to join!

Chapter One: By CocoIsKing28, 4000-2500 BCE
Chapter Two: By CocoIsKing28, 2500-2010 BCE
Chapter Three: By Daedwartin, 2010 BCE-120 CE
Chapter Four: Vacant
Chapter Five: Vacant
Chapter Six: Vacant
The Start

Map settings random, Prince difficulty, random leader, 15 civs.

In the beginning, the Earth was without form, and void...

If you don't like the start tell me, we could redo it. Thanks for the time.

Remember to tell me before you play if you are interested... We can have multiple writers for any given chapter, to have different takes on events.

I thought we could get multiple chapters... I'll just watch the story go along and see if I can jump in anywhere.

You can certainly get more than one chapter, and jump in whenever you feel like it.
I guess I'll start this one off:

Chapter One

The morning sun warmed the king's face as he awoke in his small, wooden palace. He stepped out of his hay cot and walked out of his front door. What he looked upon from the porch was the village of Yasodharapura, his village.

This seedling of civilization, King Cocovaryman knew, would become the center of a great empire, one of sprawling cities and great armies. It was here that he was born, here that he would live, and here that he would die. But he was intent on not making this the fate of his sons and daughters, and of their people. He wanted a better life for the future Khmer people, as his tribe was called, and worked for his whole life to make that dream come true.

Cocovaryman saw the way to a better future was through knowledge. To do this, he decided on sending adventurous and willing men out into the vast wilderness. If his civilization was to grow, he had to know what was beyond the outskirts of his capitol.
After some exploration, a small portion of his scouts came back to Yasodharapura bearing crates and bags full of treasure and precious ores and stones.

The villagers celebrated wildly on that day, praising Dwng Xāthity, the Great Goddess of the Sun, for the great treasures given to them.

Cocovaryman was delighted with the happiness created by such gifts, and sent the scouts back to discover more treasures. Not long after did they come back to the palace with wondrous spices from far away lands. Most of them perished on the journey back, but the ones that survived where sold to the public, and became a delicacy among the nobles.

In the later years of his reign, Cocovaryman met with ambassadors from a far away land, know as Aachen. These people, who called themselves Holy Romans, told stories about their opulent king, Charlemagne. They gloated about their wealth, which was not respected by the Khmer people, and were driven out of the village by angry citizens.

Cocovaryman died not long after, and was succeeded by his son, Cocovaryman II. He was followed by a line of kings who where relatively unsuccessful, until Suryvaraman II took the throne. He saw the world as a place of violence and war, and wanted to protect his people from it. To do so, he created an army of the strongest hunters in the village, and trained them to be warriors.

Suryvaraman was known for his diplomacy with the northern tribes of Vdū Hnāw, who gave the Khmers the gift of carts with wheels filled with foods and luxuries. The wise men of Yasodharapura saw the wheel as an advancement, and realized that it was more useful for transportation than the old ways of the Khmer.

During Suryvaraman's reign, the witch-doctors of Yasodharapura came to the palace with a new medicine that was fabled to treat any illness, and begged for patients to try it on. The villages, weary of the witch-doctors, refused to take it in fear of their lives. To please them, the king denied the doctor's request, and had them banished from the royal court. These men, furious with the Khmers, gathered together and set sail on a small raft, which drifted far out into the Great Ocean. This raft landed across the ocean, in a land they called Cạng Keîl Sī Dả.

Upon the death of Suryvaraman, a great temple was built upon a hill in his honor. Under the temple was a cave, in which wonderful truffles where found. This great gift from the late Suryvaraman was celebrated by the people, and the great truffles were sold to the Khmers, who loved the luxuries provided to them.

As population grew, workers headed out of the city, and worked to create farms and pastures, which supplied pigs and cows to the city.

The great Khmer craftsmen had continuously worked in their forges to try and heat the metals found in the ancient villages. This metal, called Bronze, was found to be very useful in tools and weapons, but was scarce anywhere within Khmer lands. Capturing a source of this metal was a goal of future kings.

The long reign of Cocovaryman's kin ended with Cocovaryman XIII, who is known for contacting the Ch'hurumoa tribes of the far north, who gave the Khmer scouts maps of vast ice caps. The maps astonished the Khmers, who welcomed the tribesmen to return with them to Yasodharapura, but the reclusive tribes refused.

Upon Cocovaryman's death, his eight sons warred with each other, but where all killed off by their countryman.

And so ended the long reign of the Coconites.

(Remember, you can make your chapter as short as you want. I was just trying to kick-start the story past the first ancient turns of scout move, enter, scout move, enter...)

Why not take my second story now, eh?

Chapter Two

Reign of Indravaram I

The prince's son sat near the fire in the royal palace.
"Tell me again, grandfather, about the kingdom of your time." He said to the aged King Indravaraman I.
The king, who was always eager to tell of his glory days, obliged. "Well, child, my reign started a long time ago, when I was only 16 years old. My father, your great-grandfather, was a great leader. He fought the sons of Cocovaryman, and won with all of the citizens backing. His duties where praised by the gods, and he, like I will soon, was brought back to the heavens."
He sat back in his chair, trying to remember the times past.
"He had given me the title of prince, which allowed me to take the throne after he passed. When I took my place as king, I wanted to gain the public's approval, and did so by expanding our empire. What I did first was send the kingdom's workers across the river to chop the prime timber forests to send off with the settlers."
Spoiler :

"When the settlers were ready, I sent them off to the north. Scouts had found vast quantities of copper, and herds of deer and sheep, so I chose this spot as our new city site." He got up and hobbled over to a map, pointing out the site.

The king reached over and pulled a bronze sword off of the shelf.
"You see this bronze? This was created with the copper from the northern mines. I commissioned the building of those mines. When The people heard of the money to be made, they rushed to Hariharalaya, the new city, to mine the ores. The city was far from our capitol, so I ordered a road to be made connecting the two cities."

"You did all of that, grandpa?" The young prince asked, amazed.
"Yes," he answered, "And so much more. With the new copper mines, our craftsmen were able to forge great weapons, far superior to anything used before. I ordered the creation of mighty armies of axemen for future use by our generals."
"Who would they fight?" The prince asked.
"They fought the barbarians tribes who attacked our people..."
Spoiler :

"...and will soon fight the Holy Romans."
Indravaraman sat back down. "Men from both cities where trained for war, but many would never see action."

"Will we war with the Romans, grandpa?" Prince Indravaraman III asked.
"I don't know, child, that's up to your father to decide." The king said with a sigh.

To be continued (By someone else, of course)...

THE DARK AGES 2010 BC-AD120
The Khmer have very sketchy records of the Dark Ages. It was paradoxically perhaps one of the greastest peroids of development. The Dark Ages was domintated by 5 defining factors

Military Expansion: During the 1900's BC, the worlds first war between civilizations began. The Holy Roman Empire found itself attacked by the Khmer Republic. A very massive force moved into and took every major city of the Empire. The Khmer also conquered the City State of Hittite and Tha...something. historians dispute the name even to this day. This expansion had major consequences.

Economic Collapse: The Khmer Republic was not prepared for the expansion economically. The entire population entered poverty. In response, a code of laws, system of courthouses and markets, a state currency, calenders, writing, and sailing boats were developed. Massive amounts of farms and cottages were created as well. The Christian Church also organized itself as the state religion, and built the Church of the Nativity, as well as several Church. By AD 120, the collapse was over it was considered. Later a second grand temple was built in Aachen.

Technologically development: The Calander, Writing, Alphabet, Code of Laws, Currency, Mathematics, the idea of Monarchy, Archery, Monothesim and Polytheism, and many other ideas were developed, mostly towards the later part. Historians have discovered evidence that the idea of Monarchy had mutually had migrated from the Viking Empire. All evidence points to the Republic being the most advanced nation on earth at this point, though the Portuguese appeared to have started using concrete.

Gigantic buildings: The grandest and pointiest tomb ever made, the Pyramids was built. The Oracles divined new secrets, the Great Lighthouse of Vienna guided boats, and the Temple of God (actually Artemis, but we are Christian as State Religion). But perhaps the greatest achievement was the Hanging Gardens. It interestingly proceeded a massive population boom, only increasing the wonder of how we built it. It even today is a major tourist attraction and now produces a respectable harvest of fruits every year.

Social Unrest: The Pyramids had been built by a very oppressive King, and the treatment was considered the last straw. Having for generations effectively been slaves, they began the Glorious Revolution. A new Republic, ruled by the People, was formed. The Republic of Khmer proceeded to conquer the Romans to prove their legitimacy. However, slavery was not abolished, as the plutocrats had too much control, and they happened to own large amounts of slaves. After the war, the people entered the Revelation. God served as a way to deal with the Depression. As the depression continued, the Republic declared Christianity the State Religion, though very few did not worship God. The Church eventually Organized itself properly, and started to lend aid in building the infrastructure of the nation.

-----
I have left the Republic much better off than it was. It is much more developed. 70% research, but its been at 50% or less most my turn... yeah by collapse, i mean 0% research only gave +1 gold per turn sort of collapse.
I will do turn 4 tomorrow.

Subbed.

and the Temple of God (actually Artemis, but we are Christian as State Religion).

Why should it not be Artemis who is the Anointed One (the Christ), who died and rose again, and is seated at the right hand of the sky god? Seems like a perfectly consistent version of Christianity for a world to have... (Of course, Hera is not going to like it, but she feels that way about Christianity in general...)
