I just started a new game, and as soon as I got my first wanderer he appeared with Flanking I, Speed, and something else (forget what).

Anyone else seen this bug? It's a new issue I'm fairly sure.

Edit - found out why (had to use the debugger to do so) - it's because TRAIT_FANATICAL gives Flanking I, Guerilla 1, AND speed to all recon units (amongst others).

Couple of points here:
  1. The Trait info in the pedia doesn't mention this - it needs to be fixed
  2. It seems fantastically over-powered.

The second point might well be due to the combat mod (TB might wish to comment), because the flagging of trait-provided promotions as free, means they skip any tech enabling checks, which I suspect is not intended (??)

Isn't Fanatical a Negative Trait? Those shouldn't be giving ANY benefits, or at least they should give minimal benefits and large handicaps. I agree, this sounds horribly overpowered.

Where previous to the combat mod they would've skipped ALL checks entirely, never being run through canAcquirePromotion to begin with. This would've been as much a problem before as now. Pre-Combat mod there were no obsoletion checks on promos so if you set a promo to a unit without running a check through canAcquire, which Trait promos were doing, there'd be no cause for them to be retracted.

However, is it possible that the Trait you're talking about is not the culprit? It shouldn't be possible for the details not to show up in the pedia. And from memory, the Trait: Nomadic, does give those benefits.

That trait seems a bit OP, yes, but then I remind myself that I never use it so it can't be tooooo OP. A heck of a benefit for early game, yes, but I think its meant to be.
