This is for pages from both Wikipedia and other Wiki sources.

I'll kick off the thread with this one:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnagogia

In parapsychology, hypnagogia is the study of the transitional states to and from sleep: the hypnagogic and the hypnopompic states of consciousness. Note the spelling difference: "-agogic" but "-opompic". The related words from the Greek are agōgos "leading, inducing", pompe "act of sending", and hypnos "sleep".
"Hypnagogia" was coined by Dr Andreas Mavromatis in his 1983 thesis,[1] while "hypnagogic" and "hypnopompic" were coined by others in the 1800s. The term "hypnagogic" was originally coined by Alfred Maury[2][3] to name the state of consciousness during the onset of sleep. "Hypnopompic" was coined by Fred Meyers soon afterwards to denote the onset of wakefulness. The term "hypnagogia" is used by Dr Mavromatis to identify the study of the sleep-transitional consciousness states in general, and he employs hypnogogic (toward sleep) or hypnapompic (from sleep) for the purpose of identifying the specific experiences under study.[4]
Mental phenomena that occur during this "threshold consciousness" phase include lucid dreaming, hallucinations, out of body experiences and sleep paralysis.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tairona
In present day Colombia.
Smaller villages and hamlets were part of a very robust exchange network of specialized communities, connected with stone-paved paths. Villages specialized in salt production and fishing, like Chengue in the Parque Tairona, are evidence of a robust Tairona political economy based on specialized staple production. Chengue contains at least 100 terraces and was inhabited by about 800 to 1,000 people in 15 hectares by 1400. The Tairona are known to have built stone terraced platforms, house foundations, stairs, sewers, tombs, and bridges. Use of pottery for utilitarian and ornamental or ceremonial purposes was also highly developed as a result of fairly specialized communities.

In 1599, the Tairona revolted against the Spanish, apparently because economic and religious pressure from the Spanish had become intolerable. The main aggression was the killing of priests and travellers along the roads connecting the Spanish city of Santa Marta and the Tairona centers of Bonda and the villages of Concha and Chengue. Secondary targets were the churches and houses of known bureaucrats of the colonial administration. However these data are from Spanish testimonies from the trial against the Tairona chiefs in 1602. The Chiefs of Chengue and Bonda were sentenced to death, their bodies dismembered, their villages burned, the populations relocated and incorporated into the Encomienda system. By the mid-17th century, many Tairona populations were completely abandoned and the region was engulfed by forest.

Their descendants today are the Kogi people.

Sleep is interesting
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoga_Nidra

The swami demonstrated the capacity to enter the various states of consciousness at will, as evidenced by remarkable changes in the electrical activity of his brain. Upon relaxing himself in the laboratory, he first entered the yoga nidra state, producing 70% alpha wave discharge for a predetermined 5 minute period, simply by imagining an empty blue sky with occasional drifting clouds.

Next, Swami Rama entered a state of dreaming sleep which was accompanied by slower theta waves for 75% of the subsequent 5 minute test period. This state, which he later described as being 'noisy and unpleasant', was attained by 'stilling the conscious mind and bringing forth the subconscious'. In this state he had the internal experience of desires, ambitions, memories and past images in archetypal form rising sequentially from the subconscious and unconscious with a rush, each archetype occupying his whole awareness.

Finally, the swami entered the state of (unconscious) deep sleep, as verified by the emergence of the characteristic pattern of slow rhythm delta waves. However, he remained perfectly aware throughout the entire experimental period. He later recalled the various events which had occurred in the laboratory during the experiment, including all the questions that one of the scientists had asked him during the period of deep delta wave sleep, while his body lay snoring quietly.

http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Harvester_(strategy)

Hardest damned boss I've ever fought on nightmare. Read it, learn it, live it.

Spoiler :

If you wish to fight the Harvester on Hard or Nightmare, the following preparations are recommended:
■ Threat management is central to success, regardless of other factors, and should play a key role in the choice of abilities/spells for your character, whatever their source or class.
■ Tactics should be carefully reset for each party member before the battle, and disabling tactics entirely for the Runic Golem (manual control only) may be a good idea if you want to keep it alive. Alternatively, you can only disable the attacks that cause friendly fire.
■ Jerrik's Bronto, Snug, will be useful (and easily revived as long as Jerrik doesn't fall) as a secondary threat manager to keep corpses off your other characters. His superior speed allows him to run around the room and avoid taking damage while Taunt cools down.
■ If using Brogan and/or Jerrik for melee damage, keep their weapons coated with poison. As the skeletons are immune to nature damage, you may want to use fire or spirit damage, and have the golem turn on Flaming Weapons.
■ The Runic Golem should be fully upgraded. Ensure you have fully completed Amgarrak's Secrets, otherwise you'll miss out on the XP for the final level-up of your party.
■ Ranged attack can be highly effective, using the Accuracy talent. Even a single rogue with a good bow and most of his points in dexterity will make this battle easier. Pull threat with your main character while the rogue shoots the Harvester to death. In many scenarios it is possible to equip both Jerrik and Brogan with good bows and Accuracy, with which they will score regular critical hits of 100-120 and 80-100 (at Level 23), respectively, in both phases of the battle without drawing much threat (apart from proximity).
■ If using an Arcane Warrior as the major tank, spells such as Death Cloud, the hexes and Walking Bomb all draw major threat, as well as being useful in their own right. Mind Blast is obligatory to clear the threat table should you get surrounded by skeletons. An Awakening Mage should also equip Hale runes to close a key vulnerability gap, particularly since many corpses favor Riposte to stun, which can be easily fatal if surrounded.
■ Haste can be a bit of an investment if you're starting from scratch with a Level 20 Mage, but it can make kiting as an Arcane Warrior much easier, especially when Phase Two begins. With a Level 20 party, it's recommended to keep threat focused on the AW Warden and Brogan, while Jerrik fights respecced as an archer with Accuracy, Rapid Shot, 20 points in Strength and the rest in Dexterity.
■ Party members likely to come under attack from the Harvester itself should be pre-dosed with Greater Nature Salve.
■ As an Awakening* rogue with very high dexterity (70 base works from experience, untested with lower) as well as momentum (to keep aggro up), evasion, duelist stance and keen defense as well as the dual weapon specialization, it is possible to have your rogue tank the Harvester as you take almost no hits throughout the entire fight, with Brogan using threaten to pick up the skeletons. (Works on Hard difficulty, untested on Nightmare.)
■ Don't be too frustrated if it takes a while to earn the achievement. The encounter contains elements of luck which have nothing to do with your skill as a player (e.g. number and type of the skeletons that spawn).
■ *An Awakening character is not necessarily required (at least in hard mode), however, you must have done most or all of the quests in Origins to be a high enough level to get away with this battle. (Just did it with a level 25 Duelist/Bard/Assassin with 102 base dexterity with the recommended skill setup)
■Is possible to do under 2 minutes(both phases) and without being hit as a dual wielding rogue from Origins/Awakening. I had about 96 dex, around 55% dodge chance, 80% crit chance and +250% crit damage(runes and daggers) and didn't require any potions/heal or use of abilities except sustained.
■As stated above, when the Harvester is low on health (around 5-10%), it is advised to finish Phase One in a red phase with an unused switch. Because this strategic element is not technically supposed to be available in Phase Two, the immediate use of the switch will wipe out any remaining corpses without fail and make Phase Two a cakewalk.

Fedor Vesna (Belarusian: Фёдар Вясна, Russian: Фёдор Весна Polish: Fedor Wesna, Theodor Wiosna[1]) was a famous 14th century Lithuanian falconer and ruler of Vitebsk from 1392 to 1393.

I made that page myself. :smug:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronostasis

I found this page via xkcd. It explains why when you first look at an analog clock, the hand indicating seconds some times seems to wait more than a second until it moves.

Yes! I remember coming across the formal description of this several years ago. It perfectly explained my observation that sometimes I can't tell whether the signal allowing pedestrians to cross the street was blinking (safe, but hurry!), or solid (unsafe!!).

I won't quote a single word of the article here - this guy was a complete monster. I now live not far from one of his haunts. He's a good example of how fragile sanity is. We are all much closer to monsters than we like to believe.

Psychological manipulation is a type of social influence that aims to change the perception or behavior of others through underhanded, deceptive, or even abusive tactics.[1] By advancing the interests of the manipulator, often at the other's expense, such methods could be considered exploitative, abusive, devious, and deceptive. Social influence is not necessarily negative. For example, doctors can try to persuade patients to change unhealthy habits. Social influence is generally perceived to be harmless when it respects the right of the influenced to accept or reject and is not unduly coercive. Depending on the context and motivations, social influence may constitute underhanded manipulation.

Great central article that links to a lot of useful things.

Intelligence
The Eurasian Magpie is believed to be among the most intelligent of birds, and among the most intelligent of all animals. Magpies have been observed engaging in elaborate social rituals, possibly including the expression of grief.[7] Mirror self-recognition has been demonstrated in European magpies.[8] The magpie is thus one of a small number of species, and the only non-mammal, known to possess this capability.[9] The cognitive abilities of the Eurasian Magpie are taken as evidence that intelligence evolved independently in both corvids/crows and primates. This is indicated by feats such as tool use, their ability to hide and store food across seasons, episodic-like memory, and the ability to use one's own experience in predicting the behavior of conspecifics.[2] Various behaviours have been observed that indicate intelligence. It has been observed that they cut up their food in correctly sized proportions, depending on the size of their young. In captivity magpies have been observed counting up to get food, imitating human voices, and regularly using tools to clean their own cages. In the wild, they organise themselves into gangs, and use complex strategies when hunting other birds, and when confronted by predators.[10] Along with the Jackdaw, the Eurasian Magpie has been found to have a nidopallium approximately the same relative size as is found in chimpanzees and humans, and significantly larger than is found in the gibbon.[3] Like other corvids, such as Ravens and Crows, their total brain to body ratio is equal to that of great apes and cetaceans, and only slightly lower than in humans.[11]

This is not a Wikipedia article, but it is about Wikipedia articles:

From socialist hair to serial killers, and all the Justin Bieber-related topics in between, Wikipedia does a fine job feeding fun facts to us ADHD Internet surfers looking to distract ourself with some quick arcana. But when it comes to serious learning — the stuff that maybe you were relieved to get a C+ on back in school — Wikipedia may be leaving us in the dust. That's the preliminary finding from a Japanese study presented at the Conference on Information and Knowledge Management in Maui.
"Although Wikipedia articles are frequently listed by average search engines on top ranks, they are often too difficult for average readers searching (for) information about difficult queries," reads the abstract of the study. To arrive at this conclusion, researchers compared corresponding entries on English Wikipedia, Simple Wikipedia (a dumbed-down version of the main site), and that Willy Loman of collected facts, Encyclopedia Britannica.

Finally, I don't have to feel stupid everytime I follow a nice trail of links on an interesting subject that dead end at an undecipherable article on chemistry or advanced math.
