...inside this file you can collect various old dos commands:
on win xp. click on START, select ESEGUI ( RUN, EXECUTE in eng ) than type CMD.
a window appear.
at prompt, type HELP: this is a list of dos commands.
for example: type replace /?
this show you a little list of sub-commands ( on DOS are called parameters )
if you type directly in the window any of these commands, you get a result,
but you have to type every times.
if you write a list of these commands on file and save it , you've got a .bat file.
when you double-click on .bat file, the list of commands you've entered...
is simply executed !
of course, the sintax MUST be correct, the path and files have to exist, etc..
you have to plan rightly...
remember that REPLACE and some other commands DOES NOT prompt any confirmation request,
than, work only with backupped files !!!
my system is simple:
BEFORE open a new game, I plan wich civs have to be present in game,
and simply click the appropriate file, in REVERSE order:
ex: war hammer mod installed.
I play with REIKLAND aganist LOREN and SYLVANIA
I click on syl.bat then lor.bat and finally reik.bat.
this happens because the popheads file used is one and one only !
and I want to show a Reikland heads, but I can change the pics of cities.
if, in the next game, the human player has a sylvania, simply change the order.
so, the last file is that the game use !
maybe you can use this metod with others pictures/ files..
the secret is one... try, try, retry...
don't forget to create a backup before begin your experimentation.
hu. forget...
I do not know the difference between .bat and .ini files...
maybe the .bat is a list of executable commands, the .ini is a simple storage of data, like conquests.ini
I put a city pic in the same folder as stored files; when the .bat run, deliver each files at the right position\path
in your example, the roman.pcx replace all of cities used by that culture, but, on post #3, I wrote:
READ FIRST
In my version, I changed the cultural belonging of some races.
Verify that meet your BEFORE launch files!
You can simply change the paths and associated images, so that they correspond to your
