The G&K expansion broke the way I did automatic tooltips. The temporary fix was to re-set the tooltips multiple times. Replacing that with a permanent solution will reduce the loading time for games by 50 seconds or more! You can help achieve this.

It's difficult for me to collect information because the problem is unpredictable. This is where you come in. If you have time, follow these steps:

1. Move your current versions of Civup/Gem out of the Civ 5 mods folder.
2. Click to download the faster Civup/Gem versions.
3. Unzip the download to the Mods folder.
4. Start a game and look at the tooltips for buildings. When you see any problems, please post information about what you see.

I attached a few screenshots illustrating the missing tooltip information.
In the first case, I'm showing the National College tooltip, which is missing everything except the required buildings info (Library + Library in all cities).
In the second one, the Lighthouse tooltip only shows requirements as well as the yields of the building, but not its production cost.
Finally, in the third screenshot, the tooltip simply displays "Error!" for the Monument (similarly for the Pyramid).

That lighthouse tooltip would be incorrect anyway (unless you're using civup only).
 
Did the problem appear after A) starting a new game or B) after loading a savegame?

Could you enable your lua.log file, then when the problem occurs, attach the lua.log to a post here.
 
It happens both when starting a new game or loading a saved one.

I have attached two log files. One is for the loaded game from my previous post (Maya_Load.log), which I also started playing with CiVUP (although a previous version).
The other log file is from a new game that I started with CiVUP (Korea_New.log).

In both cases I'm running 2.2.5 when the log file is written.

It's especially difficult to diagnose this problem because everything works for me, so I must rely on your help. Are the erroneous tooltips consistent across multiple games? Does it always show exactly the same mistakes, in exactly the same ways, or does it vary? Can you discern any patterns at all?

I've never encountered a problem like this before, so I have no past experience to rely on. I'll try to describe some of the symptoms in the main modding forum to see if anyone else has ideas.

I wonder why it affects you but not me? What could be causing a difference? Why is it so irregular - even for people who do see a problem? Why did it work in vanilla, but not in G&K? There's so many puzzling questions! :think:

It truly is strange that you are not experiencing the same issues as we are.

The erroneous tooltips seem to be pretty consistent from what I can tell. The tooltips that simply show "Error!" seem to always be for the same buildings - like Monument and Shrine. To me, it seems like buildings that produce nothing but fixed yields irregardless of other features like terrain/city size always display "Error!".

In my case the problem has nothing to do with running another mod, as I only had CiVUP loaded when performing the above tests. I'll try completely removing all other mods and clearing my cache, just to double check.

EDIT: Nope, other mods are not the cause of this issue. I cleaned out my MODS folder but I'm still experiencing the problem.
 
I uploaded a new version of the file which should provide additional information about the error. You can delete your earlier attached files. If it works, we might find it's just one or two buildings which cause the problem, instead of a broader issue.

It should fail more gracefully now. If you have the new version of the file correctly installed the erroneous tooltips should now display "Error: failed to build tooltip!" instead of simply "Error!", and hopefully affect fewer tooltips. The old method was a simple hatchet job cutting off everything when it finds a problem, because I never expected it to happen. It worked fine for 2 years until G&K's release broke something. Now the error-catcher is a more complex scalpel, and should just abort specific erroneous tooltips it finds.

I updated InfoTooltipInclude.lua and gave it another go. There is unfortunately no change at all from previous tests, apart from "Error!" being replaced by "Error: failed to build tooltip!".

Note that the problem isn't just tooltips completely failing to show anything, but also missing a lot of information like production cost, maintenance and so (see my screenshots above).

Perhaps because you're either running GEM or showing the different "power" attributes? The latter would explain the absence of any errors, as there would always be some tooltip info to display. Just guessing here, though.
 
Maybe if I knew what all of the stats were supposed to be from the start i would have a better idea of what is missing.

Are all of the Buildings and Wonders supposed to have their name on the tooltip? Because none of those are there. Perhaps start there? I mean that is supposed to be on the top of every tip right?
 
Yes, I'm quite sure that the name of the specific building or wonder should be displayed. That's missing in your screenshot as well as the production cost in hammers.
 
Just to confirm, is this issue around the tooltips when I hover over a building, or does it include the toolbars at the top of the screen for things like happiness?
