Civilization 5 - Game of the Month Training Series Game 52
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\//////////////////////////////////////////

Welcome to the fifty-second game in the GOTM V Training Series! There are plenty of new features in Civilization 5 Gods & Kings to explore and the Training Series games will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out these new features in a friendly environment. You are all encouraged to post your questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads described below. You can read more about the GOTM and Training Series concept in this thread. Before going into the details of this game, we would like to ask you to abide to our most sacred rule: don’t replay any turns. If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. It's better to do the bad moves in the Training Series instead of in the actual GOTM competition, once it starts.

In this game, the designated VC is Domination. You may win by any VC you wish, as all VC's are enabled, but the results will be posted with fastest finish by Domination victory and then all other VC listed below by fastest time.

In this game you will play as Gustavus Adolphus and lead The Swedish Empire to victory. It's a standard-sized mystery map played at Immortal difficulty and at standard pace. Domination victory is the designated VC for this game, all victory conditions are enabled. You will have until February 3rd to complete the game and submit.

Sorry to say that our Mac players are a patch behind again. :(

Please note that you are only allowed to build Oxford University one time. In addition, once you receive your two free techs from Rationalism, and should you switch to Piety, you may not switch back to Rationalism to gain an additional two free techs. :nono:

Civ V G&K - TSG52 Game Settings:
Playable Civ: Gustavus Adolphus - Sweden
Number of AI Opponents: 7
Number of City-States: 16
Map type: Mystery
Map Size: Standard
Difficulty Level: Immortal
Game pace: Standard
Game options: Promotion saving is enabled. Quick Combat is disabled (You may now turn it on using the game options menu.)
Game Version: This game was created in Civ5 Gods & Kings version 1.0.2.21. There is no dlc in this game.

In this game, you will be playing as Gustavus Adolphus, you possess Nobel Prize. You gain 90 Influence with a Great Person gift to a City-State. When declaring friendship, Sweden and their friend gain a +10% boost to Great Person generation.

You can train the Hakkapeliitta, which replaces the Lancer. The Hakkapeliitta specializes in working with Great Generals. If it starts a turn stacked with a Great General, the Great General receives the movement allowance of the Hakkapeliitta. In addition, the Hakkapeliitta receives a 15% combat bonus when stacked with a Great General. You need to discover the technology of Metallurgy and you need a Horse resource to build it.

You can also train the Carolean, which replaces the Rifleman. The Carolean is a strong, front-line unit that specializes in long marches, even far from home. Caroleans are the backbone of the Industrial era Swedish army. They start with the March promotion that allows it to heal every turn, even when performing an action. You need to discover the technology of Rifling and you do not need a resource to build it.

This is where you will start:

Information about threads associated with TSG
TSG Announcement thread (this one). This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please don’t post any information from a game you have started. Instead use the next thread.

Game In Progress thread. This thread is used to discuss the game once it's on the way. There are no reading or posting restrictions as such (apart from normal decency), although we encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshots. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. During the time the game is active, please do not post any information concerning the game outside of the spoiler threads including screen shots and videos.

After Action Report thread. In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state (preferably in the post title) your victory date and score, as recorded in the Hall of Fame, and the most important: your path to glory! , We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the two week period (sorted by date and score). Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after two weeks, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

File Upload System
We now have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "lemme play one more turn" feature)

This game runs for a month and ends Sunday, 3 February 2013.

The Save can be found here.

I'm tempted to try a GL rush with Liberty and beeline for crossbowmen depending if enough civs are reachable to be worth it. A construction beeline may be enough for the first part then astro to see other civs later and finish them with a mix of naval and land units.

Didn't we just finish a Sweden game?
In the TSG49 After Action thread, a number of players commented that they would have liked to give Sweden a try in a domination game. Decided to give them that chance as Sweden was still fresh in everyone's mind. Thought it might be a good way to start the New Year.

:newyear:

Looks like settler is on a hill? Might actually settle in place if so, a rarity for me in GOTM games.

I, for one, am glad to see another Sweden game. Domination with a civ who benefits from friendships is an interesting mix, and also, might actually use the UUs now :)

Seems like a good game. :)

Hills, river and tundra near the capital looks nice. Looks like a good place to have a strong capital. Might go tall until renaissance and go puppeting from there. Of course it depends and how things turn out, but it's an early plan. :)

Going to give this a try. I'll check with the warrior first but looks like settling in place is ok. Hill on a River! Only downside I see is a shortage of food with only the one wheat. Never played at this level before other than silly little Duel games. Basic plan is to expand as much as possible without making enemies, figure about 4 cites, but depends on the map. I'll try to fight off the first AI who declares war (despite my best diplomacy :) ), then carry the war to them.

I guess I may give this game a try.

Why don't I see the Statue of Zeus in this game? I know it's not my system I just started an ordinary game and its still there. Did I miss something somewhere????

One of the AI's has built it already? As it's an Immortal level game the wonders are going to get built quick....

Statue of Zeus is a DLC wonder.

You have to playing a game that enables that particular DLC (and you have to have that DLC obviously).

Thanks Halcyan, just out of curiosity which DLC is it?
Wonders of the Ancient World DLC.

It's the only Wonder specific DLC. Every other DLC introduces a specific civilization. (There are also scenarios too tied to the DLC's).

scout -> archers -> water mill -> archers/CB -> granary -> library -> great wall -> NC

archery -> wheel -> construction -> writing -> engineering -> philosophy -> optics
