Welcome to CityIOT, a game in which you will play as an individual vying for political power within a (bizarrely selfcontained) city.
That's right, no armies, no nations, no... er... knowing IOT, I'm not going to say "no war."
Unusually for one of my games, this one is also lacking an insane economic system and list of abilities to manage.
So, now onto the stuff you actually care about:
You will play as an individual, a member of a political organization. Note that I use organization, not party - things like the mafia or very politically motivated church groups are also permissible.
You have either two options - to start as the head of your organization, or, if the head of another organization permits it, as a member of another player's organization. I will break up organizations deemed to be too powerful (IE, too large in relation to others).
In either event, you will then go about your days amassing wealth and power through a variety of options.
First off, the "key" methods of gaining power:
Education - Building or donating to universities and pre-uni institutions (both public and private) will be one of the most direct ways to influence the next generation of voters. In addition, it allows you to spread your philosophies and ideals, and private institutions can be considerable sources of income.
Business - Although most obviously a way to make money, building a business can also provide jobs, and employees will usually tend towards their boss's views. In addition, as a politician, donating to a business can usually ensure substantial future support.
Religion - Not exactly economically profitable, but the construction and support of religious institutions is one of the most powerful ways to gain support in the community.
Media - The most direct way to get your image out, media affects the entire population of the city in some way. Keep in mind that both sides of your image get out, so this is equally well used as a political weapon. In addition, owning a source of media is a rather profitable way of controlling your public perception.
Campaigning - Though obviously the most costly process, campaigning not only influences the population, but also nets tangible political power. Political seats in the game consist of the Mayor and the City Council (size to be determined based upon the number of players). Between these two groups, all laws are proposed and voted on. The Mayor does not vote unless in a tiebreaker, but has the power to veto any law which fails to recieve at least 75% of the Council's vote.
So, what do you have to keep track of?
Have any idea for another action? Just ask, and I'll give you the general concept. Pretty much anything within reason is allowed - you can even violate the laws that have been passed, though keep in mind that this may have consequences of its own...
So, what now? Well, sign up with:
Yourself - a bio and name are essential minimums. More details are always better, as they'll help determine who you appeal to.
Your organization - a name, description, ideology, who can join, etc. This should probably be the most detailed part of your post, if you're creating a new organization, since it determines basically everything else.
Your home - marked on the map below.
Any buildings you're purchasing - every player starts with $100K, and all buildings (except your home, which is free) will cost $20K. In addition, you need to describe anything that is going to occupy these buildings (businesses, churches, schools, etc.), which will have their own start-up costs. As GM, I will determine the associated startup costs. These also need to be marked on the map.
My last minute rules:
This game will comply entirely with CFC rules and the IOT Consitution.
In addition, this game will bar any nation deemed to constitute an extension of one's personal beliefs as a method of expressing them, rather than a method of playing the game.
Lastly, be somewhat serious and completely original. This is intended to be a fun game, but I'm not going to allow Bowser, time-travel, or shameless copying of RL events, products, and people. If you have a doubt, please double check with me first.

Spoiler :
- Party size; this is how big your political party is. Though generally a source of support, schisms in parties can lead to a sharp transfer of your allies to an opposing side.
- Direct support; these are the people who will vote for you, given the choice between any candidate. Though generally a good indicator of who will win, non-competing candidates are capable of endorsing a campaigner, thus distorting this effect.
- Controlled institutions; fairly blunt, this is every group and/or business that you are in charge of, from schools to political parties, and even your house.
- Political affiliations; all groups you are a part of
- Positions of power; any actual role you hold, whether it be president of a university or Mayor of the city.
