Alright, so aside from working like hell for astronomy before 1100 ad. I heard that there's a path that opens to Vinland (Newfoundland) for the vikings to pass thru. My questions are, when dose the path open, when dose it close, and can I use it as England? I'd also like to know when Iceland becomes assailable, as a path to it opened earlier without any notice in one of my English Games.

It's easier to build a city on the northernmost tip of Ireland or Scotland
and then pop your culture twice. Your pre-Astronomy ships can pass through
Ocean tiles covered by your culture, so you can get to Iceland and Vinland
earlier and without Astronomy using this gambit.

Hope that helped.

You can make it to Iceland even without settling the British Isles after you've discovered Compass (one crucial Ocean tile changes into Coast). Cultural expansion covers the rest of the way.

ugh, these scandinavians. One of my favorite civs in any mod but one of my disfavored on this one

Why you like them?
For me it's mostly the unit dialogues. Possibly the best voice acting in Civ IV. Alle er til stede og opptelt! :viking:

And the pillaging. :viking: And free Amphibious + Navigation I Promotions. :viking:

I like the Vikings better in DoC than in RFCE. More, richer places to pillage. :viking:

What don't you like about them? Why you like them better in other mods?

-when you play vikings, all of europe is at your knees (you get alot more cities early on and a huge head start in growth/production)

the vikings in this mod, dont represent the scandinavians acccording to UHV goals, they only represent the small period in history where scandinavians "went viking"

I dislike this gameplay because you dont settle or invest in your scandinavian homeland. You dont try to settle the numerous little city spots in scandinavia or build up infrastructure. This playstyle is very different from most any other civs I play.

All you do is build some initial growth/production/happiness stuff and then spam military units and play a game for 500 years where you are the only power and all of europe is at your knees with no chance of ever recovering.

I like playing England, France, or many other Euro country. And I when I play, I tend to roleplay a few things like they happened in history wyhile trying to get UHV (absolutism for france, mercantilism for spain, etc). Now, I wish I could play my beloved scandinavians with the same style, but I cant because of their UHV and them being overly powerful.

Now, I understand some people may love the militaristic scandinavians and pillage and plan conquests ahead, and this offers a unique play style, but I got bored with this the first game I ever tried them. Thats why I think sweden should be added in, but perhaps it should only spawn conditionally or only by the player to not screw up those people who like the current vikings

The civ is "The Vikings", not the Scandinavians. That their gameplay feels different than most European civs and focuses more on the military and warfare is completely intentional. There are enough "build up your infrastructure, tech ahead and conquer the world" civs out there, and I think an alternate UHV is quite interesting. If you don't like it, fine, but I won't change them to make them another of the more traditional civs.

i dont think you should change the vikings at all, I just think the swedes could possibly be added in. But ofcourse I understand adding in the swedes may not the best idea when you take into account that there are many civs which could be added in and "why the swedes in particular"?

Leoreth, I also understand you cant do anything at once and I doubt adding in some civ, especially some sweden, is of any major importance on your or anyone elses to do list. Iam just throwing a long shot suggestion out there
