Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.

(*) Please read the >> HOF rules << BEFORE playing!

Settings:
  • Expansion: Gods & Kings + DLC
  • Victory Condition: Diplomacy (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
  • Difficulty: Warlord
  • Map Size: Standard
  • Map Type: Frontier
  • Speed: Standard
  • Leader: Maya (Pacal)
  • Required: One City Challenge
  • Opponents: Any
  • Version: SV8
  • Date: 16th February to 1st March 2013
The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.

I see lots of rerolls in my future. The question is, do I go for Low Sea Level to put more room between me and the other civs, or High Sea Level in order to restrict their growth so they don't overwhelm me later on?

it is only warlord difficulty. AI overwhelming shouldn't be a problem.

I think high sea level. Closer workers to snatch ;)

Frontier Map on Low sea level is HUGE. On my next try, I might have to go back to normal.

So far so good, turn 86 and I'm chugging along. Just finished Petra, working on Stonehenge, and I'm 4 turns from Education. Took GS as my first great person for the Academy, but I think for the second I'll take a General or Admiral, they don't increase the GP count.

Unfortunately it does, if you take it with the UA. Learned that in the GOTM54.

The advantage in taking the Great Admiral is that if you're landlocked, it'll teleport to the nearest shore, and it can transit Ocean water immediately, even if you haven't gotten Astronomy, so you can use it to explore if you aren't on the coast.

really? i thought it just upped the prophet counter, not the general one

Nope, it does both, just confirmed in my current game.

The Great Admiral decision would have been great if it didn't plop me in a small ice-bound area of the coast =). And the Great General will be very useful in case there's no coal/aluminum nearby.

Since we're OCC, our range of resources is limited to five tiles. The General's Citadel can grab resources 2 more tiles out, which is great if we're missing Coal or Aluminum. While Iron and Horses are easily obtained from City-States, the CSs usually don't have the tech for Coal and Alum, especially on Warlord.

I didn't knew that, thanks :D

Is a desert start (heavy hills) better than a heavy deer start (with forests) as you can use goddess of the hunt to get some pretty good food bonuses?

I'd rather have the desert start, assuming there's a river as well. Desert Folklore and Petra will make the desert powerful.

next to a mountain with lots of desert hills around, preferably near rivers.
this was good enough that i played it for a first attempt, but it could have been better:

Thank you.

I did one game today - 301 turns. Was on a river with 4 grain nearby and 2 wine, would have like the reverse instead.

meh 409... really stopped at teching somewhere in ind-ato ages...
could anybody help me out, and teach how to tech properly, especially with those RAs... I still can't understand how other people can make 8 techs at once...

Turn 241 - and I should have finished 19 turns earlier if I hadn't overestimated the science needed so much.

I would be suprised if the winner does not get below 200

Edit: Oh, I did have a niceish start though - 3 Salt, 2 Wheat, and a couple of flood plains. If I had had a little more desert, it would have been perfet.
