Civilization 5 - Game of the Month Training Series Game 56
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\//////////////////////////////////////////

Welcome to the fifty-sixth game in the GOTM V Training Series! There are plenty of new features in Civilization 5 Gods & Kings to explore and the Training Series games will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out these new features in a friendly environment. You are all encouraged to post your questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads described below. You can read more about the GOTM and Training Series concept in this thread. Before going into the details of this game, we would like to ask you to abide to our most sacred rule: don’t replay any turns. If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. It's better to do the bad moves in the Training Series instead of in the actual GOTM competition, once it starts.

In this game, the designated VC is Diplomatic. You may win by any VC you wish, as all VC's are enabled, but the results will be posted with fastest finish by Diplomatic victory and then all other VC listed below by fastest time.

In this game you will play as Haile Selassie and lead The Ethiopian Empire to victory. It's a standard-sized mystery map played at Immortal difficulty and at standard pace. Diplomatic victory is the designated VC for this game, all victory conditions are enabled. You will have until April 1st to complete the game and submit.

Welcome back to our Mac players. Hope you will not be patched out again soon. :wavey:

Please note that you are only allowed to build Oxford University one time. In addition, once you receive your two free techs from Rationalism, and should you switch to Piety, you may not switch back to Rationalism to gain an additional two free techs. :nono:

Civ V G&K - TSG56 Game Settings:
Playable Civ: Haile Selassie - Ethiopia
Number of AI Opponents: 7
Number of City-States: 16
Map type: Mystery
Map Size: Standard
Difficulty Level: Immortal
Game pace: Standard
Game options: Promotion saving is enabled. Quick Combat is disabled (You may now turn it on using the game options menu.)
Game Version: This game was created in Civ5 Gods & Kings version 1.0.2.21. There is no dlc in this game.

In this game, you will be playing as Haile Selassie, you possess Spirit of Adwa. Combat bonus (+20%) when fighting units from a Civilization with more Cities than Ethiopia.

You can train the Mehal Sefari, which replaces the Rifleman. The Mehal Sefari are the backbone of the Ethiopian Army. They start with bonuses fighting in rough terrain and near their capital. They are slightly cheaper to build than the Riflemen they replace. You need to discover the technology of Rifling but you do not need resource to build it.

You can also build the Stele, which replaces the Monument. The Stele is an ancient era building that increases the Culture and Faith output of the city in which it is built. You do not need to discover a technology nor do you need a resource to build it.

This is where you will start:

Information about threads associated with TSG
TSG Announcement thread (this one). This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please do not use this thread once you have opened the game save. Instead use the next thread.

Opening Action thread. This thread is used to discuss the first 100 or so turns in your game once it's on the way. There are no reading or posting restrictions as such (apart from normal decency), although we encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshots. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. During the time the game is active, please do not post any information concerning the game outside of the spoiler threads including screen shots and videos.

After Action Report thread. In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state (preferably in the post title) your victory date and score, as recorded in the Hall of Fame, and the most important: your path to glory! , We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the two week period (sorted by date and score). Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after two weeks, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

File Upload System
We now have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "lemme play one more turn" feature)

This game runs for a month and ends Monday, 1 April 2013.

The Save can be found here.

Uuuh, that starting position isn't looking very promising. How early do Immortal AIs build the Hanging Gardens? :)

Looks like Gunboat Diplomacy to me, yes?

Old pirates, yes, they rob I;
Sold I to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit.
But my hand was made strong
By the 'and of the Almighty.
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly.
Won't you help to sing
This songs of freedom
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.

Ah, i never played Ethiopia.
Hanging Gardens is actually quite possible to grab at Immortal if you focus on Mathematics and you have decent production, but you need to plan on building it. Of course, some Civs tend to build it faster (i guess Babylon will always try to build it), but as with other early wonders, you must decide to focus on it before knowing what other civs are there, so there's some luck involved.

God of the Sea might be an option here if it's possible to put other cities with acces to sea based ressources.

Maybe this time i'll try to actually play for submission, but most of the time, i don't submit cause i loose focus on the victory at some point :p
I still like to play those games anyway, so thanks to the team. :goodjob:

The first game with Ethiopia sucked because of the water map and this one appears to be another water map and again, with poor early food.

Or maybe we are at the end of a peninsula, or maybe the southern spot is just a lake. Well, i guess there is only one way to know for sure ;) I'll probably settle at turn 2 next to that mountain BTW

Starting location doesn't look very good. And I've only done a diplo game once, so I may have to practice before trying it on Immortal >.>. I'm thinking an aggressive diplo game where I take out a few civs.

Pretty sure I've never done diplo in CiV... Just get all CS's on your side and rush UN?

And yea, probably settling next to the mountain.

I'm almost certainly settling next to that mountain. Move warrior that way, see what's over there, and then decide.

Yes, move warrior on jungle tile near mountain, if it looks promising will settle near mountain!

So.... Can someone remind me how liberation works please.
If you liberate a Cs, they will always vote for you even if they're allies with someone else?
What happens if you liberate a civ?
Cheers

AFAIK you only get an influence boost with the CS after liberation. If another civ allies with them, they will get their vote.

I'm gonna try this one out, going to settle by the mountain as well.
