Greetings, Immortals and would-be Immortals (and indeed any other players of any level), and welcome to the Immortal University.

Here is our Leader:

The following settings were used to create this map

And the Demographics for people to spot any info they can

Before we start, here's the copy & paste bit where I get to pretend that I'm TMIT:

To play, just extract the WB save file into your worldbuilder saves directory, then play it. Use custom scenario if you want some extra settings to tickle your fancy. This series was designed for people learning immortal, so most people here will be at that level or trying to attain it, although deity players are welcome also. Hell, if you want to play this on NOBLE. The intention of this and any other game thread I post is to get better. Play whatever level you need in order to improve.

If you are aspiring IMM+, try to remember to add archery back to the barbs in WB. Every time you don't, a deity AI will kill a kitten, although there are a lot of kittens so it's not the end of the world if you prefer easymode barbs .

I do request people to list their difficulty and speed. In terms of updates, well nobody follows that anyway. Post in the manner you feel comfortable. Typical comparison dates are 1 AD, liberalism, and victory/defeat, as well as any major events. If in doubt, go with that.

We also have an initial Immortal/Normal autosave which is much more convenient since you can avoid all the worldbuilder shenanigans. It comes with my personal seal of approval (not least as my worldbuilder edits may contain hideous game-destroying errors that could cause your computer to explode ).

No edits were made to the map. Back on IU 87 I switched Louis with Zara to have different traits going around with the current forum games. Now Louis makes his return! Have fun and happy civing.

Also let me know if you have any trouble with the saves. I had a bit of trouble with BUG this morning, but I think I fixed the problem. :D

Edit: Look at the demographics...

Spoiler AI spoiler :
In at 24000 soldiers is Hammy!

Great start. Move the warrior 1SW and decide where to settle? My guess that will end up where the warrior currently stands.

Unless the warrior reveals something east, I don't think it's worth wasting a turn to move. Of note you gain and lose 1 fp and 1 grass hill with the move but also ruin a river gl tile and burn a turn.

Anything I'm missing?

Edit: Hmm, looks a bit different now that i have my computer and I'm not squinting at an iphone screen. What initially looked like FPs on the on the iphone screen are just riverside grassland tiles, but my point still stands. I'm gonna SIP unless the warrior reveals something really compelling to the east.

I don't see why you'd spend a turn moving to where the warrior is. You burn a riverside grassland tile and gain nothing unless the warrior reveals an unlikely 4th resource.

More green and more riverside land? North of the capital is pretty lousy and brown. Moving toward the green implies a stronger Bureau cap, but of course I might be misreading.

I would move warrior SW and see if there is any reason to settle in spot. If nothing shows up, I would settle 1N on the plains tile.

Why? It's most definitely a resource and your just picking up more brown tiles vs. losing green tiles.

I thought about 1N, but I'm hoping (if I get to play) for a horse there, and North looks pretty brown so I don't want any more of that in my capital if I can avoid it. (xpost)

When you click on your settler, the other suggested settling location is on the grass hill to the SE meaning there is a high probability of seafood down there. Any move to the south would likely block a future coastal city, and a city down there could help grow several riverside cottages for the capitol. SIP just looks like the strongest move.

i haven't posted here in a while, but I'll make my comeback by saying

SETTLE ON THE COW

hi folks. I am new to Immortal and new to this program
but I made it to 1AD and things are going real good for me so far.
it seems to me that Louie has great starting techs and this is a great start locale.

Spoiler :

History: i burnt down two of happy's cities and right now i think she's isolated. Oh and everybody i've met is hindu so I am too. Also i took a couple of barb cities so i am up to 9 cities like the AIs.

Present: My economy has crashed and I sold my army and half of my cities are size 1 and 2... but I have monarchy and the war is a truce so things can grow. I am on the verge of getting Metal Casting.

Future: Build forges, research/build catapults. Finish off Egypt (and take the pyramids) and then fight someone else.

PS: how do I get screenshots into these posts? I was hoping for some city placement advice.

Actually, that is not true at all.

Settle on cow is a very strong move, despite losing a strong tile. The genius of Tachy rises again ;)

Welcome to CFC!

(By program, do you mean Civ in general, i.e., gaming program or the IU...um...program..I guess)

Anyway, best way to place in screenshots is to use a image host site like "imgur.com". Copy the BBCode (forum code) and past it directly into your post (ideally use spoiler tags for each image as a courtesy)

You can also attach your game saves

Based on just the screen shots, we gain a riverside grasshill and an extra riverside green tile by settling on the cow. We seem to be swapping out what appears to be a floodplain, can't tell without fog-gazing the actual save, for that riverside green. Unless they both have gems, I don't see a whole lot of reason to waste a food tile without even knowing what the food status around the capital is for future cities.

Or am I missing something obvious?

Settling on the cow makes a very, very nice capital.

Spoiler :
It adds a flood plain, and the surrounding land is very green. Getting the first worker out nice and early to farm and then mine the gold didn't hurt, either. No seafood wasted in the south, either--can easily get a couple of cities down to work the fishies. I was able to Oracle CS by turn 70-ish thanks to a pair of golds and early Pottery/Writing, and I'm in a really great position. Didn't miss the moocow at all.
