So there's been some discussion lately about starting lower level challenge series similar to the Deity Challenge Series. I don't know how popular this will be, but here's an Easter-themed game. What does Hiawatha have to do with Easter? Well...the AI Hiawatha expands like bunnies breed...or something. I don't think this map is hard enough for a challenging Immortal game, but I guess we will see. I didn't want to make the first game some weird, awful map with cooked civs and stuff.

The settings are Pangaea, standard speed/size/resources, G&K enabled(but no DLC).

Unique Ability - The Great Warpath – Forests and Jungles function as roads for unit movement and trade routes within friendly territory.
Unique Unit - Mohawk Warrior - Replaces swordsman, +33% bonus in forests or jungles, requires no iron.
Unique Building - Longhouse - Replaces workshop, -20 production cost, gives +1 production on worked forest tiles.

Interesting, will probably give this one a shot! Deity is a little too tough for me  Will probably move the warrior to the copper and then see if I'll settle in place or move south.

I'll post a progress report later when the map isn't as new, but I managed to get a fast religion in this game. By turn 100, I had 8 cities under my religion and I had no happiness problems :).

I'll give it a shot. I admit, I actually haven't gotten the Iroquois-win achievements yet.
Neither have I, that's why I picked them. I don't think many people play them either.

Hi I'm new to the forums and had a newbie question. Was wondering when I came across a proper pic next.

On the upper right of the screen there is a box with 8 player names, in the OP's pic 7 of them say "unmet player". How can I view that box in my games?

I've been meaning to play an Iroquois game, so perhaps I will try this map. They can be a lot of fun with the right start. Cruising around those forest tiles almost feels like cheating :D

Menu options. I don't remember where exactly but it's easy to find it(interface?)

I thought it was at the bottom where hex grid and strat view was, but I can be wrong. It was a revelation to me to see that box too when I started back in Gotm 7. Hope you find it.

I might give this one a go too, when I finish DC10, it's going well so hopefully soon.

That is correct, it is under interface options and is called "Single Player Score List".

I recently joined the forums for these type of challenges and GOTM. Hopefully I will be able to improve my game by playing them.

I've been pretty bored with civ lately. I started this one and settled on the copper, a rare move for me. Then I

Spoiler :
met Sweden so I switched to attack mode and stole his worker and changed tech from writing to the const line. He kept spamming cities. He has 4 now in a tight pattern up around the north. Its t64 and I have const unlocked with 3 archers a general and Military Tradition. I also have 2 more cities, along with One with Nature for the faith mountain, 12fpt. First religion. I guess I could take him now. I'm not motivated though. I also met Rammy, he is pretty close. I image he would attack me soon.

Hiho
thanks for the challenge, that way i don't need to decide which civ i play ;)
Finished Turn 270 with Diplomatic Victory because i was to lazy to do the domination.
Spoiler :
Game was relatively easy for me. Scoutet Maya and Siam first and they started spamming wonders. So i decided to go 3 city Tradition (Mt Sinai spot soooo awesome ;)) and stomped Pacals capital quite early (only Stonehenge and Pyramids were built). The 2nd Maya city was deep in the moutains , so no chance with early units...
After that Siam and the Swedes (which scouted me in turn 70) DoW'ed me but at this point i had alrdy pimped CBs and easily defended and counterattack the Swedes to take his citys with ease after upgrading du Xbows.
After that i was Tech leader and leader in Points (Turn 110) and i just played a bit around ans was tooo lazy to do major conquering ;)
All in all quite easy but had a lucky start not scouting the Swedes, so they did go into wonder spam mode.
Another thing were the really crappy starting locations of Elizabeth and Germans and Aztecs had a medium-bad postion too.

Nice game Fire0rb. I didn't think it was a hard game, but I wasn't sure how to judge it without playing through beforehand. I played around 100 turns before making this thread and judged that the starting terrain was bad enough to make it harder than normal. And I checked that there was at least a couple threatening AI's in the game.

Update at turn 136:

Spoiler :
I decided to go Liberty this game since I saw all that open space and I almost always go Tradition, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to learn. Not sure if that was the best choice seeing my pitiful capital population. Since my science is going pretty slowly this game and my population is horrible, I decided to go for a domination route. I'll probably end up taking Siam and the Mayans out with crossbows once my DoFs wear off and then wait until planes to take out everyone else. I took Stockholm from Sweeden after he DoWed me for my aggressive city taking, but I think I should have weakened him some more. My religion spread very fast as I settled my second city at the natural wonder and I took Desert Folklore. All in all, the game is well under control for me and I have no doubt that I should win around 240-250.

My only concern was how to use the UB correctly. I think I should have cleared the river forest tiles to grow my population. I've never won with Hiawatha, so I tried to maximize the Longhouse's effect to the detriment of my science.

Nice move. Immortal will still be challenging for many players (including myself, as i'm never sure i will actually win when i start an immortal game, but unlike deity i'm not sure i will loose either :) )

Hiawatha will be another challenge. Never managed to get far with him. At least there are forests on this map.

@Sufficiency - Odd, I thought it was a harder than normal Immortal game. For domination at least. Reasons in spoiler tags:

Spoiler :
Turn 275 domination finish. Really rough game in some aspects because there was only 4 oil(compared to 32 coal >.>) in the 8 cities or so I had at that point. So I had to bankrupt myself to ally some city-states that had a bit of oil. Somehow, The Mayans finished the Oracle at turn 71 which I've never seen happen on Immortal. Then Germany built the Great Wall which made him a gigantic pain to take out. I waited until planes to take out everyone, but Germany was outteching me by 2% because I never went for Plastics. His Panzers were a big deterrent and it took me a long time to get to Berlin. So 275 Domination victory is my worst mark so far, but my research was nothing special, so a Science victory seemed sub-optimal.

But Uluru made the game a whole lot easier. My religion spread really fast and it was dominating my half of the map with 4x cities in it. The immediate neighbors were pretty easy to defend against(with Siam/Mayans wonder-spamming). If I had to play the map again, I'd definitely go for a Science or diplomatic victory. Domination just wasn't fun at some points in the map.

As for using the Iroquois, I did not like them at all. My cities didn't grow like they normally do because I couldn't spam farms on every tile. Their free roads were kind of annoying since going from forest->road->forest seemed to take more movement points than normal. And his UU comes too early and in the wrong part of the tree for me.

The thing is, I didn't even bother to try domination because the continent is simply way too snakey. I would rather cut myself than moving my troops across the terrain.

However, I don't think domination is hard - I think it would probably just be really, REALLY annoying.

As far as population is concerned, I had similar problems. But since I was so ahead in tech with Messenger to the Gods, I sent most of my spies to maritime CS and I had two of them allied to me for a good portion of the game.

Mohawks are amazing  if you can get Drill I on them and make them defend in a forest tile it's basically invincible.

EDIT: oh, in my game Germany didn't build the Great Wall. I can imagine how that would have made things a LOT more difficult. If I were in that situation I probably would have gone after the Mayans. The Mayans also had a really quick (turn 79 I think?) Oracle in my game.

As soon as I saw that Germany got the GW, I decided to take them out with bombers. But thanks to their fast tech rate, their panzers gave me headaches, even with WWII bombers.

I was considering going for MoTG because I've never done it before, but I knew my second city would be in the desert. I'm not sure if that was a good idea or not, but it got me a religion faster I guess.

I think that was the problem. With Sinai I was guaranteed a religion no matter how I played it, so Messenger to the Gods seemed like the ideal choice.

Originally I planned to build shrines in all my cities and just brute force a religion that way (because I knew my neighbours Sweden, Siam, and Germany are not big fans of religions; Pacal was, but he was pretty far away from me so I didn't care). Then I saw Sinai and I just facepalmed.

In my game, the most difficult part was to take Munich (Cologne in your game).
