A few weeks ago while playing the Star Trek mod on Civ4, I thought how awesome it would be playing it on Civ5. So as I do I start jotting down civ ideas for the races and empires from the mod using the concepts from Brave New World; for example
The Borg has Resistance is Futile - No Research can be made; instead gain one technology upon capturing an enemy System and 50% chance from an enemy Starship.
The Devore has Gaharey - Systems suffer no Cultural Pressure.
The Kazon has Clan Infighting - Domestic Trade Routes cannot be formed; instead Intergalactic Trade Routes also produce Food and Production. Etcetera, etcetera.

That got me thinking about rather than making a whole scenario mod for Civ5 *cough* given my utter lack of modding experience *cough*, float ideas for other fantasy/sci-fi civs from books, TV, games and other forms of popular culture instead. So, in the style of Pouakai's and MARDUK80's Leaders Wanted thread, I'm both posting these civ ideas here for critique and edification and opening the floor to anyone else who likes to suggest any of their own fantasy civs, but since I'm not a mod here it may look more sloppy. :p
I've looked into the history of video games to find the most popular games of their day and produce one reasonable civilization from each of them to start off; I thought it best to stick with only one civ per game to prevent any overlap between the fantasy races from fantasy games such as Age of Wonders, Master of Magic and Warcraft, all of which are represented here; the end result here is to see each of these civs work as mods for Civilization V. The following posts will highlight my fantasy civs and alot space for any suggestions for other fantasy civilizations, eleven games have one civilization representing them at the moment; Age of Mythology, Age of Wonders, Dune, Final Fantasy, Heroes of Might and Magic, the Legend of Zelda, Master of Magic, Myst, Starcraft, Super Mario Bros. and Warcraft.

Before I do continue Final Fantasy was very difficult to complete, unlike most other games I know and love to play the Final Fantasy series has no continuity; instead of 14 games spanning across a grand story arc, FF is 14 games with their own unique stories and universes. The Unique Ability and Elements were designed to reflect the general similarities found in the series; the use of airships and summons, and the rebellion theme. I went with VII because I seem to be more familiar to it, since the games are entirely separate to each other that can be changed depending on the public opinion.

It is two months until release. They aren't going to implement any new civs, new scenarios, or new features that aren't already designed for BNW. At the time this expansion was announced, it was already too late for any changes.

This thread belongs in the Ideas & Suggestions forum with all the other pipe dreams.

sound like great Ideas for mods really like the The D'ni ,TARSONIS and STORMWIND CITY civs

Thank you. Since I'm not familiar with most of the games I'm not leaving it up to myself with the details, which is why I'm letting anyone who's interested to plug in any new and relevant input.
Of the three the D'ni is the one I'm most proud of really since I play a lot of Myst and Uru and by contrast don't have Starcraft or WoW. I'll admit when I first heard about the division of the Artist professions the first thing that popped in my head was Age Writer.

Anybody read Homestuck?

[BUMP!]
The 11 fantasy civs have been updated; the UUs and UBs now have a Gold purchase cost and the tech required to build them, including the Toad House for the Mushroom Kingdom. A few of the UAs have been revised to make them more unique - Atlantis now gets more production from the sea than faith to use to build its powerful siege, the Elves from Age of Wonders have a more unique City-State trait than the Greek carbon copy it had, the same for the Imperium and Enroth. Most importantly Gaia from Final Fantasy VII has one weak unique unit instead of two to balance out the fact that it gains unique elements from other civs.
Also a twelfth civ is up there, drawn mostly from its third iteration Super Smash Bros. is represented here; ruled by the Master Hand the World of Trophies is a very militaristic civ.
The early game is dominated by melee units with the unique ability to use the Final Smash, when a melee unit reaches a new level - gain a new promotion - the strength of the unit doubles until it engages in a battle, whatever the outcome, after that battle the strength returns to normal. It provides a devastating first strike in a battle that severely or mortally wounds the opposition immediately and then follows up with a unit at nearly full strength.
As the game progresses melee units become stronger and stronger until eventually phased out by the advent of Gunpowder and gunpowder units, rendering the UA no longer available, having dealt a lot of damage early on. The late game provides the unique elements of the World of Trophies with the Fighting Alloy unique unit and Battlefield unique building. The Fighting Alloy replaces the Giant Death Robot; it has the same strength, moves and weaknesses but is cheaper to build or purchase and does not require Uranium to build. The Battlefield replaces the Stadium, it provides 2 extra Happiness and gives new land units 15XP. A Fighting Alloy from a city with a Battlefield has the edge of being quicker and easier to build and starts with extra experience to earn it at least one promotion from the start.
