I don't know if anyone picked up on this and I can't watch the featurette till lunchtime .
But the British Invasion achievement is for British Great Musician not an English one.
Could this be the civ after Brazil in the achievement list?

I doubt it. England and the Celts kind of encompasses Britain.

It's probably for the Struggle For Africa scenario.

They need to rename England to Britain, England didn't achieve anything alone.

They are "England" in the Scramble for Africa scenario. At least two of the achievements refer to them as such. This makes the reference to Britain even more unusual.

There is a play as England achievement in the struggle for Africa section, the British Invasion is in the game mechanics section of achievements.

The English did lean heavily on the Welsh bowmen for much of their success.

jddods you are kind of stuck with the Celts to rep those non English peoples.

Disagree. For one, that would eliminate a whole bunch of cities for the Celts. Two, Queen Elizabeth is a beloved and well known leader of the English, not the British. They would have to create a new leaderhead for that purpose, and a new UA, and the ones currently in-game work perfectly now.

In fact, both the units are English units, not British units.

If England not being Britain bothers you, you could always conquer the Celts as England and 'become' Britain in your mind :) Meanwhile I'm quite happy playing as the English, thank you very much.

Ever heard of the English Empire? No, didn't think so.
The Celts can be based on Ireland instead, theres a whole bunch of Irish cities that could be used. Elizabeth was under control of both England and Wales, therefore it wasn't just English and also the Longbowman is infact Welsh, not English. The Ship of the Line was used by the BRITISH Empire, not the nonexistant English empire, thank you very much.

All right, I'll give you those points.

...But I still prefer England to Britain. Mostly because I prefer to identify as English rather than British, myself :D

Sorry to tell you this, but Wales was just a part of the Kingdom of England under Elizabeth. Therefore, it's quite acceptable to think of the Welsh Longbowmen as an English UU.

Also, the English were one of the first adopters of the Ship of the Line during the 17th century, in the lead up to the formation of the British Empire. So again, it is an acceptable English UU.

Most of the American and Caribbean colonies were established before the Acts of Union, making them English colonies. The disastrous Darien scheme was an abortive attempt for Scotland to create a rival Scottish empire to the English empire.

"Great Britain" as a political entity did not exist until 1707. From 1603 to 1707, England and Scotland were merely in a personal union, where they shared a monarch but not laws. During the Bishop's Wars of the 1630s, Scotland and England were at war with each other despite having the same king.

There is also the medieval Angevin Empire, where the kings of England controlled large portions of France in their capacity as Dukes of Normandy and Anjou.

Much and all as I'd like to have the Celts based on Ireland, that makes absolutely no sense given that the Celts were, at various times, spread throughout the British Isles, France and most of Europe.

Indeed, and even today there are 6 Celtic nations: Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Brittany, and the Isle of Man. To limit a civilization to just one of those would be silly.

Oh no. The Insular Identity Issue.

We all live on wet, mossy little islands in the Atlantic, and we've all always needed the others, for better or for worse. Let's be island buddies!

HAI GUIZ. COM ON GIUYZ. THESE ILANDS ARE ARE HOME BRA.

A Germanic people stuck on some islands with a bunch of Celtic people, it's like the premise for some sitcom

I just... what?

It's always made a great deal of sense for the British Isles to gang up together and, for the most part, it's actually worked out pretty well. Those wet, mossy little islands in the Atlantic came to possess what is arguably the greatest empire in the history of man. Arguing for a British civilization on that basis isn't terribly far-fetched, I think the real problem with 'Britain' is that it doesn't really exist - it was just something manufactured so we wouldn't have to be English, Scottish, Irish or Welsh if we didn't want to be. Great Britain had an awful lot of things going for it, it's just a little debatable whether it was a civilization or not.
