I decided to post a Russia Challenge

1. Have at Least 10 Cities in 1450AD

2. Have at Least 20 Cities in 1850AD

3. Being the most extensive civilization in 1700AD, 1850AD and 1950AD

4. Made at least 8 Espionage missions against United States before 1970AD

5. Win A Space Race Victory.

6. Have a Railroad from a Atlantic Ocean (Black Sea, Baltic too) port, to a Siberian port in 1900AD.

7. Run Supreme Council, Totalitarianism, State Property by the entire game after 1918AD.

8. Control URSS territory in 1955AD.

You can do 2, and you can do 5, but doing both in the same game sounds really tough. You'll be crippled tech-wise.

You can found 10 terrible cities in the turn before and give them to someone else the next turn. It's very gamey though.

I guess that's where the espionage comes in?

EP costs for stealing techs increase with the beaker cost of the tech, i.e. it increases with founding more cities.

Watermilled, Workshopped, and Windmilled Siberia building Wealth and Research can't really be underestimated. Combined with stealing tech from Prussia, you should be solid. The only real threat tech-wise is...China and England? Neither of whom have anywhere close to enough production to be a real threat.

You pretty much have to do this. It's similar to Britain's original UHVs, in which the three-cities-per-continent goal makes the tech leader goal impossible unless you give away at least half of your cities immediately after the uhv triggers. I'd imagine you would have to do the same here, although stability is a factor.

Also, one of the goals should be "switch to capitalism and descend into civil war by 1990AD" ;)

this is very doable. I play russia alot. I end up with more than 10 cities at 1500 and certainly more than 20 at 1850. and this is on emperor/normal speed...
The only hard part is stealing from US.. cuz i prefer to steal from germany/england/korea/dutch cuz theyre closer.
But it varies game to game, sometimes just have to restart. What matters most is that you dont do bad against mongol invaders, you have some civs which trade techs with you, you get liberalism first, vikings at start dont beat your butt, and late game mongols arent too powerful because you dont want them to delcare war on you when your colonizing siberia. If you get lubyanka/statue of liberty not too late then your number of cities has no effect whatsoever on your economy because you should be able to steal every tech anyone researches.

These two seem contradictory to me. I can never settle that many cities so early on without dragging my tech down to 60% at best or running out of money, even if all my settlements are west of the Urals. Is cottaging the answer? Also I assume running merchants in Kiev and Novgorod/St. Petersburg could help...

-heres what i do:
-ccity of st petersburg is settled at river best location aand at coast (cant remember what its called). send 1 horseman to asia via safe route
-second city is settled on furs (dont really matter if its not). yes, that city may be close, but who gives a f when it dont even matter till the industrial age
-third city settle at iron south of kiev. for production
-settle moscow on horses(its ok if u want the original locatiot)
-reserach ffishing, trade with byzzies for saleswhatever
-in 10 or so turns ur horseman should reach asia. give them smth if they dont open borders with you. you need tibet contact
-when byzzies give u sailing, upgrade ur horseman to knights and conquer kiev
from then on, just play urself. alot of random things may happen. Civs may trade, or may not. but btw, recent patches made spearmen the best counter to mongol hordes.

as for cottages, yes that is essential. like at st petersburg location (st peter sucks, settle at where i advises) but dont spam them, just have 2 cities with them. like st petersburg location can afford alot. but youd want to also get some scientists asap and workshops ffo future build of statue of liberty.
Russian tech seems good, very good. as long as civs trade tech with you. build a cottage every now and then and I think its more tha enufff.
you can actually prolly play without the cottages(as I do) cuz their bonus kicks in later.
iam rly rly drunk atm but i hope i got my point across. Another thing is, alot of ppl got
playstyles, so u listen to others and find ur own. iam sure theres 100 ways to win as russians cuz they UHV is coo;

Let this be a lesson kids, don't drink and type up gaming strategies. :nono:

Well I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone, but I'm sorry if I did. It was only a joke (probably not a very funny one, but a joke nonetheless.)

From my side too, a joke. Maybe not funny at all as yours, but humor differs in different corners of the world...

Ah, drunk RFC. The only time I've ever invaded Japan as China.

It worked too, but anyways, back on topic:

I feel like there should be a goal to control Afghanistan in this challenge somewhere. It would be more difficult, but certainly not impossible given the Communist/Nationalist/Occupation civic powerhouse that Russia can run. This was one of the greatest foreign policy failures of the USSR and arguably kick-started the Union's collapse. Since every other one of the goals is historical (technically, they did win the space race) it could be interesting to do the RFC thing and include one ahistorical but fitting goal along with the rest.

The Apollo program was finished by the US first, and since no one built spaceship parts or the elevator, I think we know who won :p
