The Nobles' Club series started out as a way for Noble-level (and below) players to improve their game. Most of the original participants now play at much higher levels, so this has become a way for advanced players to help others learn to play better. You can play your own game at any level and with any mod, but it would be nice to comment on the games of other players and give them advice.

Our next leader is Ramesses II of Egypt, whom we last played in NC LX. The Egyptians start with The Wheel and Agriculture.
  • Traits: IND suggests wonder spamming; you might want to consult Dalamb's guide for which ones to pursue based on what goals you have in the game. SPI suggests a diplomatic game ('cause switching civics to please opponents is easy and doesn't disrupt you for too long before you can switch back to what you really wanted in the first place).
  • The UB: The Obelisk, a Monument that can turn two citizens into Priest specialists; this can give an early :hammers: boost and bring in a Great Prophet early, should you want to pursue a religion and build shrines (or bulb Theology, which through Theocracy can give your early armies a nice boost).

  • The UU: The War Chariot, a Chariot with 5 :strength: instead of 4 and immune to first strikes; it can be very good in an early rush.

And the start:

Spoiler map details :
Hemispheres.
Spoiler edits :
Swapped two AI's starting posiitons and added an 8th.
Finally, a cut and paste of our standard doctrine:The WB-saves are attached (zipped; they are bigger than standard saves). To play, simply download and unzip it into your BTS/Saves/WorldBuilder folder. Start the game, and load your favorite MOD (if you use one, if not, check out the BUG MOD), select "Play Scenario", and look for "NC number Leader Noble" (or Monarch, etc., for higher levels). You can play with your favorite MOD at the Level and Speed of your choice. From Quick-Warlord to Marathon-Deity, all are welcome! We stuck with the name "Nobles Club" because it has a cool ring to it.
Spoiler what's up with specific difficulties :
In each scenario file you can select your level of difficulty, but that doesn't give the AI the right bonus techs by itself. Use the Noble save for all levels at and below Noble. The Monarch save gives all the AI Archery. Emperor adds Hunting; Immortal adds Agriculture; Deity adds The Wheel.

For players on Monarch or above, you should add archery as a tech for the barbarians (if you don't, the AI will capture their cities very early). This cannot be done in the WB save file and must be done in Worldbuilder as follows:
Spoiler how to add techs to the barbarians :

  1. Zoom in all the way so you can't see the rest of the map.
  2. Use the CTRL-W key (or the menu) to enter the worldbuilder. Avoid looking at the mini-map in the lower right corner.
  3. By default you're in "player" mode (look in the box in the upper right; the icon that looks like a person should be selected). You'll get a drop down menu labeled with your leader's name. Barbarians are at the bottom, so cover the rest of the list with your hand if you don't want to see who else is on the map. Select "Barbarians".
  4. Select the "Technologies" tab in the box on the left.
  5. Find Archery (the arrow head icon; 8th row, 3rd column from the right) and click it.
  6. Exit the worldbuilder.
  7. Zoom out again after the map fades, and start playing.
Spoiler huts and events :
Note: The standard saves have no huts and have events turned off. If you want tribal villages and random events, choose the saves with "Huts" in their names. If you want huts but no events, select the Huts saves and use Custom Scenario to turn on the option that suppresses events.

Will probably give this a run thru tonight, ive never played ramases i dont think Oo

from the looks of it, SIP seems to be fine, probably will be an HE capital, will need to find another spot for oxford, as most of those riversides will need farms. Ill probabably move the warrior ne to see if theres anymore green tiles to be found. Will hopefuly find a spot with cows or pigs - if another civ is discovered closeby its probably worth it to grab ah just in case an easy chariot rush can be had for cheap.

I don't see any reason at all to not SIP. It's not a very good long-term commerce cap for bureau, but you can build up to 5 riverside grassland cottages, so it still might be worthwhile to put a few of those down early. It depends on whether there's any alternative source of commerce nearby.

this is:

Spoiler :
abuse city  Gandhi does not stand a chance. He fed me about 15 workers before I killed him off in the early BCs. Took like 5 or 6 ceasefires with him and took double workers 3 times. Izzy can go down fairly easy too but I may want to keep my Bud friend for GLH trade routes.

After further thought, this spot is actually pretty decent for early commerce even without cottages. There's not any 1 big commerce tile like gold, but each marble is 2:commerce: and all of the tiles that we would improve early are riverside. At size 4-5 the commerce will be pretty decent.

I don't see an urgent need for BW, so i might go Mining > AH (hope for some horsies) > Masonry > Poly/Med > PH > Writing (opened up with AH which makes the horse gamble more reasonable) and try for a CoL Oracle. I might have to do some rough math to see if that would result in a reasonable Oracle date.

No way AH ---> BW ---> Masonry ---> Pottery ---> kill 2-4 civs and carpet the land in cottages MLG PROMODE.

If the continent dictates it, it might be kind of ok to "only" kill 1 person and then spank the rest of the continent with trebuchets, knights, maces, and city defenders, assuming of course that hemispheres gave us more than 1 person to smack down anyway.

I was gonna try this on deity so taking out multiple AI with WCs probably isn't feasible. I was thinking more along the lines of getting out some WCs to choke while I get oracle techs then killing that AI and expanding after. Will have to see the lay of the land though. I might go with something else.

WHAT YOU SAY?!

One could do it deity. You just need a sneaky approach like picking "marathon" :D.

I'm gonna wonderspaaaaaam!!! This will be my 1st game on Monarch, let's see how it turns up :)! Thanks a lot NobleZarkon!!

deity 2400 BC
Spoiler :

Haha that horses smiled at me in the WB, when i gave barbs their techs. I founded 2nd city corn/cows and go BW now to chop out some chariots and crush ghandi.
hopefully i can wait for him to build a shrine. He founded buddism and just got stonehenge

@dalamb - quite surprised not to see Kremlin in your Wonder list. That 33% hurry bonus also applies to whipping which makes it a great war-monger wonder.

To I Don't Feel Like Playing Anymore:

Spoiler :
Easy map. Gandhi is screwed by virtue of starting next door to a be-horse'd Egypt, Darius is screwed by virtue of being on an island with Joao, Saladin is screwed by virtue of starting next door to two warmongers with similar low peaceweight, Joao is screwed by virtue of still not having a lot of room on his continent, Isabella is screwed by virtue of having the Isabella AI. It'd be interesting to see what happens to the map if, say, Genghis is switched with Darius. WC rush Gandhi and this one's all over on probably most difficulties, I'd wager.

This would be a good time for experienced players to check again as to whether my wonderspamming guide needs more updates.

-The Internet might technically be widely useful, but i don't think it is widely used because most games have either ended or already been decided before that comes into play.

-I would probably have The Great Library in the Widely Useful group because it can benefit almost any game, particularly any that involve going for Lib.

Oxford is not widely useful. If you're doing a heavy renaissance war or earlier it's probably not worth your time to build the universities necessary and then oxford itself. You'd be better off putting those :hammers: into units or :gold: and either killing stuff sooner or getting a beeline tech ASAP rather than making a large investment that only has 10-30 turns to pay off before you go into full-on war prepping and it's not contributing much.

In other words, oxford is great for space race, very situational for military victories (and sometimes UN, depending on what you need to do to secure a UN win), and awful for culture and AP games.

Except those games where you go for early military expansion (HA, Elepult) and you simply cannot afford researching anything else besides Currency, HBR, Construction and building anything else than military units.

Deity 25 BC

Spoiler :
WC rush vs. Ghandi into recovering with failgold abuse and building up infrastructure.

I just love Izzy, because thanks to her i have the organized religion boost in all my 12 citys before the ADs

Accidently builded the Heroic Epic in the wrong spot though, but i deserve that, because of my cheesy failgold addiction  (The spot is not to bad though, but i wanted to combine it with Moaoui Statue)

Got Mids, TGL and NE up in my former capitol. Just moved Palace to Bombay 1 turn after Civil Service was researched. Next on the list is Globe Theater in Delhi.
Hopefully someone builds Chicken Pizza soon, can't get any trades and having trouble running my slider high.

Probably take Izzy out with cuirrassiers after 2 golden ages from artist and Taj.

Haven't met everybody yet, forgot to scout^^

I'll give a humble try on Emperor. If I fail, I'll revert back to Monarch.

I'm probably going to SIP. Only 2 riverside grasslands in the 1st ring of the BFC. It means that this capital is not going to be a strong research capital.
