Operatives,

It was not my intention to disappear on you, but I am afraid that I will not be available for consultation or assistance during your current predicament. I am indisposed at the current time and do not have a timetable for return. This is not to say that you are completely alone in your task. I've forwarded your case to Backwards Logic, Chief Executive Officer of the Dresden Organization of Operative Mercenaries. He is sympathetic to your plight and will offer assistance in the form of Mission briefings and logistical support.

Take care. Trust no one. You face a well armed, determined team of assassins on your tail who will ruthlessly hunt you down until you are all dead.

Until we meet again,
Dreadnought

Operatives,

While I cannot directly offer you support in this struggle, I do happen to remember a now-unused Organization safe house located in Mosul, Iraq. I can't imagine the Organization will react quickly if a few denizens were to be discovered there, especially if I give an order to look the other way. Perhaps you can use it to regroup and rearm?

I will forward to you information concerning side missions that may be lucrative for you in the mean time.

Sincerely,
Backwards Logic

The BLUFOR Objective

Find the necessary components of the Archimedes Generator: the Superconductor, the Supercharger, the Fusion Stabilizer, and the Neutron Inducer. Once completed, eliminate the OPFOR threat before awaiting evac.

December 23, 2014
0900 Hours GMT

Gentlemen,

  • The Supercharger is a fairly standard piece of equipment, and should not be unreasonably difficult to locate. All the same, we do not at the present time know of the location of a supercharger that fits the generator's needs. Keep your eyes open.
  • The Neutron Inducer is high-end technology. We can't waltz into a corner hardware store and purchase one. There are perhaps only a handful of inducers that will fit our needs.
  • Until the Mission was authorized, I did not know that Fusion Stabilizers even existed. I'm not sure where to start with this one.
  • The good news is that I've discovered the location of a Superconductor that will fit our needs. The bad news? It's located in Blackwater corporate headquarters, in North Carolina. There's no way we can get in there. We're going to need some sort of plan before we can even think about infiltration.

The Neutron Inducer and the Fusion Stabilizer seem to fall into the realm of nuclear science. Perhaps the blokes at CERN, in Switzerland, know where to find them. I suggest we "relieve" them of their information as soon as possible.

Regards,
Seon

The Rules

Please take the time to reread the rules and become accustomed to them. Thank you.

Spoiler :
General Rules
  • The most important rule of all: have fun!
  • The second most important rule: be active. Active players will be rewarded with epic action sequences in the storyline; you will be a BAMF. Inactive players will not hold these roles. WOG'ed players will die an embarrassing, dishonorable death. Be active!
  • Do not post when you are dead. You may post one obligatory farewell post, but you may not reveal any information about your role or information you possess in such a post.
  • You may not, under any circumstances, quote any PMs you receive from the moderator. You may paraphrase.
  • Quicktopics will be provided. If you wish to create a Quicktopic, please PM me the link.
  • I reserve the right to adjust the rules or WOG players as necessary, but only as a last resort.
  • There is a huge difference between characters and players in this game, even if they share the same name. Characters are the individuals found in write ups and in the storyline; their alignment is usually clear. At the same time, the Player whose name corresponds with the character will not play as the same character, let alone necessarily be of the same alignment. As an additional note, just because a Character is dead, that doesn't mean the corresponding Player is dead, or visa versa! For example, Ninjacow the Character was featured in the first story of this game, but Ninjacow the Player should be treated as an entirely different entity. Give each player a clear slate, regardless of their characters!
  • Because I am a character in this game, it may be assumed that I am also a player in this game. However, please do not vote to lynch me, nor should you target me with any abilities: both of these will fail, guaranteed.

The Day
  • Day lasts for 48 Hours.
  • During this time, players may vote to lynch another player via voting with the Vote: Player format. Due to the professionalism of our Organization, a player must have a certain number of votes above the others in order to be even considered for a lynch: if there are 15 or more players left alive, the lynch target must hold three more votes than his nearest competitor in order to by lynched. Below 15 players is standard lynching procedure: the player with the most votes is lynched.
  • Vote: No Lynch is a valid and acceptable vote choice. Vote: Abstain, however, is never acceptable.
  • Players must also provide a Move Order during the Daytime. This can be provided using the Move: Place format. This order can be provided via posting in the thread or via PM.
  • Some Days may feature an item up to vote. You can vote for a particular player to have a certain item via the Vote: Player for Item format. Each item will have its own color to use in the above format.

The Night
  • Night Lasts for 24 Hours.
  • It is at this time that many character and team abilities can be triggered. These orders are to be PMed to me during the Night phase.
  • Due to the nature of our mission, we must enforce strict radio silence during the Night. Do not post in the thread during the Night!

Combat
  • Combat is reflected by two stats in each role PM: Combat Strength and Discretion
  • Strength reflects Direct Combat, which may occur between different players in this game.
  • Discretion reflects the necessary skills to fulfill missions and does not reflect combat between players.
  • To put it more bluntly, your Strength dictates how strong you are against other players, while Discretion dictates how strong you are against NPCs during Missions (see below about Missions).
  • Items collected may boost these two categories, making you stronger in combat.

Items
  • Items will be available for player use throughout the game. Some can be found while on Missions; others can be purchased.
  • Items generally fall into three categories: stat boosters, ability related items, and objective related items.
  • Stat boosters typically take the form of weapons. They boost either your Strength or Discretion.
  • Ability related items either provide an ability for the player to use (typically by expending the item) or augment a player's natural ability.
  • An objective related item can be used to satisfy a faction's objectives. Like Relics in the first game, they must be found in order to satisfy victory conditions.
  • Item trading is allowed, but both players must PM me to authorize the item transfer.
  • If an item has italicized text in its description, that text is for aesthetic purposes only, and does not directly state what the object's use is.
  • Some items will not have a description, and their use may be a mystery (until their use is discovered).
  • Items that add Discretion stack. Items that add Strength do not stack. Only the highest Strength item you hold will add to your Strength.

Missions
  • Each day, players submit move orders to locations in the world that play host to a Mission. Missions are the necessary operations the players must complete in order to win the game.
  • Some Missions are optional; some are necessary to complete the BLUFOR objectives.
  • Missions may provide a reward for the players that partake in them. That reward is given to each player that partakes in the Mission. Other times, a Mission may only give a single reward, at which point that item will be put up to a vote.
  • In order for a Mission to succeed, the combined Discretion of all players on that Mission must exceed the Discretion requirement of that Mission.

The Black Market
  • The Black Market represents items the player can purchase during the Day Phase.
  • The Market will function in an auction style, and players must bid on items placed on the Market, spending the corresponding number of credits if the purchase is finalized.
  • Some items are not sold in an auction format and instead can be purchased by any player who can afford it.

Wanted Level
  • When the players engage in Missions, their Wanted Level will increase. This may have serious repercussions if left to spiral out of control.

Caribbean Sea
December 22, 2014
1900 Hours Local Time

"Get us the hell out of here," Dreadnought ordered as he climbed into the sea plane, followed closely by SouthernKing.

Johnhughthom threw the plane's engine into ignition as Ninjacow64 shut the door. The plane lurched forward for a brief second before gaining momentum, gliding forward over the ocean's cresting waves.

"How's the airspace look?" asked Ninjacow64. "I was anticipating you'd have substantially stronger evac than a propeller plane."

"Airspace is clear. They came in via boat."

Ninjacow64 remained tense. Even despite the danger he had just faced, staying in such a confined area with such dangerous men as these was extremely disconcerting. "Look, you gotta tell me what this is about. Who were those guys?"

"Those, Ninjacow, were assassins, sent to collect the bounty on your head. Your coworkers from Mauritania are in similar circumstances, though I will admit I did not have to bail them out of an assault like I did for you." Dreadnought and SouthernKing unloaded their weapons, causing Ninjacow to sigh with relief.

"How did you know?" Ninjacow asked.

"Mauritania was a big moment. A victory was won. At the same time, there are those that don't take kindly to defeat."

Ninjacow shook his head. Zack. "You're saying Zack did this?"

"All I'm saying is that someone wants you dead. Whoever is coming after you has connections, equipment, experience, and most of all, motive."

"I can take 'em."

"Could you have?" Dreadnought looked straight into Ninjacow's eyes.

The bluntness of that retort caught Ninjacow off guard. He didn't answer.

"Your suspension from the Organization has complicated things. The corporate fat cats won't extend to you the protections we offer for operatives in the Organization."

"Why's that matter?"

"Those assassins won't stop hunting you, Ninjacow. Not if they're still in Zack's pocket. You pissed off a very powerful enemy, and this is the repercussion you now face."

"I can hide. Stay off the grid."

Dreadnought responded quickly. "Do you remember Mauritania, Ninjacow? Do you think you can just hide from what you've experienced? What you've started?"

"Mauritania was one mission! I didn't sign up for a campaign."

"Like it or not, the campaign is coming to you. I can help you, or you can die. I'm sorry to say it, but it's that simple."

Ninjacow looked out the plane window. They had reached an altitude of several hundred feet. His old home on the island was now a distant blot on the ebony ocean below.

"I want out," Ninjacow said softly. "I don't want to be part of this."

"The Organization can bail you out of this. Trust me."

"Why should I?"

"I've been on your side this entire time. I'm on all of your sides. I'm not the enemy here. I'm trying to help."

Ninjacow sighed once again. "Tell me what I have to do."

* * * * *

It is now Day 1.

The following Mission Locations are available for movement orders:

Blackwater Corporation
North Carolina, United States
Discretion Required: Very High (too high to estimate)
Wanted Level Increase: High
Reward: Superconductor
Notes: The Blackwater Corporation has acquired a Superconductor which they are utilizing for railgun research. There is no rush to infiltrate the corporation -- the Superconductor won't be going anywhere -- and perhaps it may be best to acquire more equipment before travelling here.

CERN Infiltration
Geneva, Switzerland
Discretion Required: Low (~5+)
Wanted Level Increase: Minimal
Reward: Objectives Related Information, and each Operative will receive: 3 Credits.
Notes: CERN is the European brainchild for nuclear research. If the Fusion Stabilizer and Neutron Inducer exist somewhere in this world, it's likely CERN would know where. Let us relieve them of any information they may possess, and follow those subsequent leads.

Data Aquisition
Tokyo, Japan
Discretion Required: Low (~5+)
Wanted Level Increase: Low
Reward: Each Operative will receive: 5 Credits and a Cell Phone (+1 Discretion).
Notes: Residents of one of Toyko's suburbs have gone missing over the past few months. A few days ago, our client discovered their fate -- and it wasn't a pretty one. We need to figure out what has been abducting these victims and dispose of the threat before it becomes a national issue.
This Mission is not objective related.

The Safehouse
Mosul, Iraq
The "abstain" option, the equivalent of choosing not to go on any Mission.

There are no items available on the Black Market.

The Squad's Wanted Level is: None.

Vote to Lynch a Player in Bold.
Provide a Movement Destination in Green.

Housekeeping remarks: the thread should be more or less good to go. I'm going to proofread and make sure nothing is missing. Keep in mind that things that have been posted may be subject to change in the next few hours.

With that in mind, you may now post!

Time until Day 1 ends: [TIMER="6/17/2013 12:01 PM EST ; Day 1 is over."][/TIMER]

Alright chaps, Agent Ultra here. We've all been in this business long enough to know that bunkering down in a foxhole isn't going to get us anywhere. We need to start kicking ass and taking names. The CERN OP is a high priority. But the Tokyo mission gives us some much needed funds, unless someone is packing some serious heat, we could all do with better guns, and a few grenades. The encrypted cell phones from Tokyo to stay in contact during missions will also be bloody useful.

With 20 Operatives we can easily split into two teams without sacrificing team effectiveness.

Move: Tokyo Data Acquisition

Move: Tokyo

Why No Lynch? To conserve our strength until we locate all of the items, or what?

Move: CERN Headquarters sounds good. Will reserve my vote on the lynch.

Why No Lynch? To conserve our strength until we locate all of the items, or what?

Not necessarily that long, but we should get some level footing and a good idea of where we're going before we start killing operatives off. Besides, without a massive separation of votes no one will die anyways, so why start pointing fingers until we have a clearer idea of where to point them.

Hell, we didn't kill off all of OPFOR in Mauritania and we still succeeded in the mission. Not saying that is advisable here as the stakes are seemingly much greater. You get my point though.

Move: CERN Headquarters

Vote: No Lynch

Hello Comrades,

I think that three, maybe four, of us are enough to infiltrate CERN. I mean the Swiss and Nuclear Physicists aren't exactly known for their security. The other members of our squad should be protecting the workers of Japan, who knows what technology you might acquire from these kidnappers?

Also, if any idiot decides to attack Blackwater half-cocked I will kill them myself.

OOC: I think everyone but those who have already volunteered for CERN should go on the bonus mission. I mean, money + phone is better than just money. Also, I will vote for anyone who thinks it is a good idea to attack Blackwater, and I'm pretty sure a large portion of the squad as well.

Dr. Leo preasant and accounted for. I will Move: CERN Infiltration
and vote: No Lynch, since alot of people are moving to Tokyo already.

Blackwater eh? Couldn't we just buy the stuff from them? They seem like buisness people to me... oh right, were bankrupt... Why isn't there ever enough funding?

hmm, Ninjacow has a point abt CERN. I am still somewhat conflicted, given that this game has taught me to expect surprises, and CERN is a mission objective, which means it might be a trap. On the other hand, Tokyo gives a higher reward to the team than CERN does, and the first mission objective in a long campaign probably wouldn't have anything too nasty.

unmove: move: Tokyo

Move: Tokyo

Why No Lynch? To conserve our strength until we locate all of the items, or what?

Not just to conserve strength. But also because it would be bloody useless at this point. As Agent Romeo (Buddhafish) states, unless you have a majority nothing would happen.

Yeah I'm sure we have some infiltrators in the ranks, but we also don't know if they are against the mission or just waiting to divert it later on. If you look through the reports from the Mauritania Mission you can see that there was 4 factions active but only 3 of those factions were killing people and only 1 faction was actively trying to work against the stated mission objective. For now lets focus on our survival and the mission. Any trouble makers can be shot.

Vote: No Lynch

Marvellous. Agent Fox (Ninjacow) is a Russian Red.

Well at least we can trust you to follow through on your damn threat. Although I bet we could take the Blackwater place if we all rushed it. But we'd certainly have some KIA and make a right mess of our international wanted level. Best to wait until we get some way of finding some floor plans or better weapons. Or a Tank. We should be able to track down a contact for the Black Market soon but until then...

As for saying only four Agents should do the CERN mission... Well "Comrade", Considering we haven't been told by Control to choose a Squad Leader for our little band I think people can do what they well please. Also your idea is poppycock. Either of the Missions could be a trap and if we have a Infiltrator trying to stop the mission objective then CERN would be a prime target if there were hardly any men involved. Like Agent Dragon (Spaceman) states it is a prime place for a trap. A equal division of Agents will see us through and make sure we have enough resources tomorrow without any one dying when things go wrong.

And they WILL go wrong governor. We both know how these things go.

English red comrade, English. ;)

Of coures they can do what they can please, but I think that more people going to Japan is a smarter course of action. The group can decide otherwise if they wish.

I feel like we should opt for the safe option for now. Certainly the Blackwater corporation is much too risky for now.

I'll opt for : Move: CERN Headquarters
