We go back to city micro... as an homage to SGOTM17. [Maintenance Thread]

I'd ask for spoilers to be used so that nothing is given away too easily. You're free to talk about anything else though.

Be advised that you may find answers if you look at spoilers...

Micro Challenge IV

You are Charlemagne. [Civ Illustrated]

This is your start.
Spoiler :

As in SGOTM17, you get all ancient techs.
Spoiler :

The challenge: complete the following tasks:
Normal :): claim 4 gems and build a granary in the capital as soon as possible.
Spoiler :

Hard :devil:: claim 6 gems and build a granary in the capital as soon as possible.
Spoiler :

Nightmare :wallbash::hammer2:[pissed]: claim 8 gems and build a granary in the capital as soon as possible.
Spoiler :

Settings
To avoid problems, events and barbarians will be disabled.
To avoid RNG issues, all wonders are disabled and all religions are already founded.
Always peace is on for this one, although it probably wasn't necessary even though those AIs despise you !

Difficulty
This one may be quite frustrating :crazyeye:

Your only hint for now:
Spoiler :
The clock starts ticking at midnight.
Of course, anyone who spent a month trying to fiddle with a very similar start could get an advantage.

lol, ok. I suppose i will have to play to find out what's preventing us from settling at our leisure then.

What constitutes "claiming" the gems? Do we actually have to mine/work them, or is it literally just "these are in our borders now". Claim implies the latter, but the former would likely require more useful planning.

Considering you're not even giving a hard turn limit here, it would at least be good to know what you're looking to accomplish in micro planning, as settling up land ASAP come hell or high water is quite a different goal from making it usable ;).

6 isn't too bad after a little bit of trial and error. I'm 2 turns shy of getting 8, but i think just shaving one turn off something earlier could result in saving 2 turns later. Right now I'm clueless as to how to make that turn or two up though.

Edit: Figured it out

Spoiler :

You guys doing it wrong.

I didn't test enough :cry: I've edited the challenge conditions a bit to make it slightly less minimalist.

You guys doing it wrong.

Spoiler :
Hahaha, I guess I should toggle on no culture flip in the future.

Obviously, that's not what the challenge is about ;)

I assume the granary needs to be completed before the last city is settled?

Yea, let me re-word it...

EDIT: 'as soon as possible' added... meaning you may still build it afterwards but you don't get all brownie points :p

Redone the challenge with all 8 gems and granery built

Spoiler :

As soon as I saw "The first post gives all the info that is necessary", I was like :mischief::mischief::mischief::mischief::mischief::mischief::mischief::mischief::mischief::mischief:

Again 8 gems and granary but a turn sooner then last time

Spoiler :

Ahh, where is my Civ PC, when so many interesting staff been posted here.... :(
Using phone as a window to the "real" world.

EDIT: Is it about getting 2-4 settlers out ASAP before AIs clame the spots?

Yep.

~~~
It might be interesting to see what's the earliest all 8 gems can be hooked up to the capital (roads+mines). I haven't tried it so no clue what's a good date.
EDIT: Lazy attempt gave me T50.
TMIT was right, that's a more interesting challenge :thumbsup:
