Good afternoon,

My game keeps freezing/crashing at turn 237. It happens as soon as it tries to process the turn for the barbarians.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have the same problem, on a marathon game so the turn counter is way higher. On the barb turn the music will stop and when I move the mouse the "globe" changes into desktop mouse arrow.

I checked my vid drivers and they are up to date.
I tried making different moves on units and it still happens (I've found in the past that if you can make diff choices with everything can overcome a crash depending on the reason haha but if it is in fact the barbs moves crashing it then that doesnt help I suppose).

Will someone who has NOT experienced this problem please try these saves and see if it happens to you?

(and yes I've played this entire game intoxicated, but I swear the crash is real lol)

Sorry to double post but I've tested both djm713 and zuu25487 saves and they do exactly the same thing as mine does.
Barbarian turn comes up, music stops, if I move the mouse it changes back and forth from the civ globe into white desktop mouse, then sits there forever(I have let it sit for 10mins it doesnt come out of it), I hit task manager and get the message civ5 has stopped responding. Oh and alt+tab does nothing during this time.

So....

Again I would ask Anyone who reads this subforum to please try and play our saves out because the more people with diff systems the better, it doesnt seem a big deal to you now but when it's your game it will be :)

@djm, zuu, and anas, Does your sound cut out as well? Could this be an audio driver thing or maybe that's just a symptom of the game crashing hehe.

Oh and edit: It would be cool if you don't mind changing the title of the thread to like "crash on barbarian turn" or something. Mods if OP is MIA please?

Running into the same problem I'm afraid. No matter what I do to change things up, every time I try to end the turn it crashes...

Not the way to go for a first play that's for sure...

have same problem. and with two games already.
in first game that was somehow late, in industrial era, and right now at renaissance start :(

OP here...I would change the title if I knew how, so if you don't mind showing me how, I'd appreciate it. Or a mod could change it. thanks for all the replies. Good to know I'm not the only one with this problem.

Again, same issue here.
The turn varies, but ever since the BNW install it has been worse than ever in terms of general stability. Okay, I'm running 32-bit - but I am running a Quad Core CPU with 1GB Graphic RAM and have set up a fixed virtual memory of 4096Mb on my fastest drive (a SCSI one) and it makes no difference at all to a fixed one of half the size on the C drive.
I know it is coming as I can hear heavy disc activity and then comes the "Civ V has encountered a problem & needs to close" OS dialogue - the disc thrashing suggests memory issues, probably a nasty memory leak as a turn based strategy game should run on this setup.

Latest crashes are all to do with Ranged Attacks too - late game with Battleships, and also late game XCOM units trying to paradrop - immediate crash here.

I'm experiencing the exact same problem. Game crashes while it's stuck on "Processing turn for Barbarians". I've tried both DirextX 11 and 9 and nothing seems to work. Seriously, a bunch of people are having similar problems and I haven't seen one solution or even a reply from someone aware of what the cause is. Fix your goddamn game Firaxis.

At least send a company representative to clear things up, instead of leaving us in the dark. Way to treat your customers Firaxis.

Should have seen this before I posted my thread. I seem to be having the same problem during the barbarian's turn in late game. I have an error report in this thread if anyone is able to figure out what process is causing the crash.

Alright, I fixed it somehow. I reloaded the game three turns before it crashed (autosave) and moved some units toward a couple of barbarians near my city. If the barbarians' course of action was somehow breaking the game (and assuming these specific barbarian units were the culprits), it must have somehow altered their path (and not crashed the game).

Hmm I don't think I have any line of sight on any barbs in my crashed game. And I did try loading back various amounts of turns and moving units differently and also just space barring all units for several turns, still crashed.

endejan were your barbs in the water? I wonder if it is the same bug as this crash here where dennis says it's the world wrap, but instead of being a players unit it's a barb crashing on the world wrap?

No, they were on land. I'm not sure then. This isn't the first time the game crashed like this and refused to let me continue beyond a certain turn, but the first time around, there weren't any barbarians present. It didn't crash while processing the turn for Barbarians, it crashed as a result of various basic activities (establishing a trade route, changing production, just advancing to the next turn etc.), so I'm not sure. Me fixing it this time might as well have just been luck.

I'm not sure if another save will help, but this same thing is happening in this save file at this turn. Cannot get past so far but will keep trying.

Edit: I just noticed it also freezes if I hover over the trade route. I dont have any currently razing cities to stop(I did just raze one, though, gonna reload a save and see what i can do).

Final Edit: OK I stopped that city from razing that had a trade route from egypt one turn before the save i posted. Got me past my save. Annoying, but works.

Thanks CivDole, that's an interesting find.
In my game I had just finished razing a city, I no longer have a save for prior to the city raze to stop it however so cannot test it for my game. When I mouse over the City Ruins though I still see the Trade Route popup and it says Ulundi(Zulu) to NULL Dest so I'm thinking it was a trade route being razed for mine.

However when I look at zuu25487's save, I don't see any cities being razed, and the notification log does not show any recent wars going on.

Apparently there are trade route calculations going on around the same time as Barbarian turn, and it could be more than just the Raze city with a trade route crash but perhaps multiple trade route crashes considering zuu25487's game. Unless I'm missing something he had not been at war for as long as the notification log keeps a record of.

OR perhaps in that game the AI is razing a city that has a trade route to it?

Dennis where are you buddy! :)

I'm having the same issues. I get an error stating that expansion2 dll code is trying to reference something it doesn't have access to. I'm assuming this may mean a city was raised that had a trade route to it. I'm going to try sdk and turn off fog of war (if i can) and see if that is indeed the problem.

edit: Well, I can pretty safely say that's indeed what it is. There is a Roman caravan that is trying to go to a burned down city. When I hover over the caravan, it says it's going to a Null destination. Thankfully, it's a city i'm razing, so I'll be able to stop it before this error occurs. Hopefully this gets fixed soon tho, because if it wasn't my city, i'd be pretty screwed.

Same issue, can't play and don't care to start new games if they will get broken the same way (playing Ironman mod - one turn = 2 years)... Just thinking about hours I have wasted on the game that is now unfinsihable because of a damn bug =/

I take it palying without barbarians has zero effect since it is a caravan related bug?
