Well, CG6 has wrapped up nicely. I asked the people there about what do do for CG7, and one of them (Aggie, was it you?) suggested a Deity attempt. I've never tried Diety personally or in an SG before, so I thought it was fitting. In the last two SGs we've covered Emperor nicely, so it looks like the time is ripe for my first attempt at Diety! Here are the parameters:

Level: Diety, obviously! :p

Version: 1.14f to account for all the Europeans around here. :)

Map: Standard map size, Continents, 70% water, temperate everywhere, Barbs on the second level (I forget the name, I never change it off that level)

Victory Conditions: Domination or Conquest wanted, but any will be acceptd.

Rivals: Maximum.

Civ: Up for debate. I'd like a good civ for my first Diety attempt, so its open right now.

Variants: I don't want to do any serious ones, because this is my first Diety game, after all. So we'll play by the honorable rules - no trading workers, honorable declarations of war, breaking of deals avoided at all costs, etc.

Roster:
Jack
Myself
Aggie
Shillen
Borealis

The crew from CG7 and CG6 are cordially invited, although maybe a Diety veteran or two wouldn't hurt. :D

I'll make the save in-game whenever we choose a Civ. :)

Good Luck cg64 :). I would join, but I would rather wait untill Ive played a couple of Emperor games and get requilified in playing an Emperor TDG. I hope you can find time to play both (Your SG and mines :) )

(How did "requilified" get in there, man I better stop picking up redundant words from my parents since they have to go through training to requilify since they build subs)

Çount me in ! May I suggest we take a strong civ like Persia or Egypt , and that someone with deity experience (e.g. me or one of the other veterans) play the opening turns ?

A doable scenario would be to take a standard map, pangaea but one civ less than the allowed number to leave us a little more room to expand without having to go to war, a la RBE DSG1: The Uncanny X-Men.

CG, I'm in! But beware what you say about honourable rules. These are very strickt. I'm sure you don't mean the Realms Beyond version of honourable ;)

I'd suggest to play with another industrious civ. No Ottomans this time though...

Egypt? Persia?

EDIT: I'm all in favour of Jack (or another Deity client) playing the first 20. They're crucial.

Yeah, just the basic honor - honorable declarations, no RoP raping, etc.

Oh, and I'll agree with you both on the first 40. I guess Jack could play the first 40 (first come first serve :p). Could you keep more detailed notes than normal, because this could be a learning experience...

And I agree (again) on an Industrious Civ, that is a must. Persia is always an option...

Oh, and one thing I forgot in the game parameters: Our ideal victory conditions are Domination or Conquest, but any will be accepted. I want to win, after all...:p

Count me in for this one too. :)

We could go for France or Carthage. Not great UUs, but industrious and commercial is a really good combo. Persians would be good too. I like the Ottomans the best, but I think Aggie hinted that you guys did them recently.

edit: Ah if you're going for a military win then I suggest China. They're industrious for the obvious advantage. Militaristic will give our troops a greater life expectancy. We'll also get more leaders and get more wonders. The rider is awesome.

I must admit that I really like France as well. Great traits (I mean industrious/commercial ;) ). I'm not a super experienced player on deity, but with a little concentration I can get quite far I would say. I promise to give a detailed write up :)

OK, so here is our Civ list so far:

Egypt
Persia
China
France
Carthage

Hmm...my vote is on China or Persia. :)

The roster:

Jack--->Up whenever we decide on the Civ
Me
Aggie
Shillen

I'd prefer a standard map over the large one suggested, actually. The thing is that you don't usually start conquering on deity until the industrial age, and in case of a large map, it is hard to get to domination before anyone launches their spaceship. Also, if there turns out to be a dominant civ on the other continent than yours, you are actually at risk of losing on culture (speaking from experience here).

Any kind of victory on deity is fine with me though.

On the civ choice I would be against Carthage as the odds of getting a GA with their UU at a useful time are negligible and the Numidians also take too long to build when the shields invested in them could be better used for granaries, markets and cultural improvements.
France suffers from the same problem to a lesser extent (defensive UU). I'd be OK with them though. Remember that our odds of getting a wonder-based GA are rather poor.

Good points, I'll agree. I'll change it now.

Again, agreed. For me its really between France and China...

I have to disagree with this. When I play deity I usually have one war with swords/horsemen, which is usually to get ahold of horses/iron or some luxury maybe. Then my first real conquest is with a mass upgrade of horsemen to knights similar to what we did in CG6.

But I do agree that a standard map will be easier. You can kill off a civ much quicker, and tech seems to be easier to manage on a standard map.

I'll join, if there's still room. Hot3 seems to be heading out of the deep end, and with it and Phys1 possibly in the end-stages, I think I can handle the time commitment.

Alright, this game is full and ready to begin once we get a Civ. The roster:

Jack
Me
Aggie
Shillen
Borealis

@ Aggie: Forgot about Persia...;)

Good luck guys! I remember my first deity game. Germany had a HUGE continent all to themselves (after they'd killed France). Their continent was around 4 times the size of mine (and I had two other rivals on mine. I ended up winning when Germany didn't have ANY oil!!

So I guess the moral of the story is: keep at it, fight down to the last man, don't bight off more than you can chew and ummm, above all have fun :)

I also remember my first Deity win. Arabia was two times as big as any other country, but after they attacked me, my Sipahi cut through their musketmen and riflemen like a hot knife through butter. I wasn't planning on destroying them, but they refused to sign a peace treaty. All it would have taken was a few techs to placate me!

I think I'll watch this one as I'm just barely on emperor level (playing my first emperor game right now and I'm caught up in techs in the early middle ages). However, diety is a bit beyond me.

Being equal in tech at emperor is quite good! Congrats! Just look at what we did in HOT3 ;)

<Mr. T voice> Stop the chitter-chatta, fool! Pick a Civ!</Mr. T voice>

;) Seriously though, we need a Civ to get this off the ground. How about we have a vote?
