The AI gives weight to the free tenets given by being the first and second to pick a certain ideology, so you're likely to see at least one of each ideology. But beyond that, what ideology do you see the AI pick most often? Let's gather some data!

In my opinion choosing ideology depends on each civ's characteristics. China and Rome are most likely to first-pick Order due to their sprawling cities, but other religious civilizations (Ethiopia/Byzantine) are more likely choose Freedom for their tenets.

For the number of occurrance, Order>Freedom>>>>Autocracy. I actually have never seen civ leaders first-picking autocracy. Ever.

3/4 of the AI I play with pick order. The rest pick freedom. Autocracy is exclusive to Monty, Attila, Bismark, and Darius. Even genghis, oda, Herald, and Askia pick order.

I play on standard games... typically 4 or 5 AI pick Order, I pick Freedom along with 1 or 2 of my friends, and the aggressive bully picks Autocracy (I'm looking at you, Alexander)

Yeah ive only seen on aggressive pick autocracy the rest usually pick order unless im their friend and ive picked freedom. Out of curiosity has anyone picked order first for the two free tenets and had the AI go for some other branch instead thereafter? I havent had a need to take it yet in the two games ive won and ended up going freedom both times. Hoping to try order next game

I've loaded game saves to go back just a single turn, and the AI has chosen a different ideology multiple times. There is almost certainly a randomizer affecting the outcome.

I saw Darius pick freedom in my game, maybe he likes it for the +50% golden age tenet. (Then again I was outclassing most people in tourism and he could have done it to remove the unhappiness penalty, but the AI was constantly swimming in happiness.)

Usually most civs have order, but in every game (well most games) there are the few that pick Freedom, I don't think I've seen a civ pick autocracy yet.

Have you seen autocracy tier one? It's horrific. It's its an abomination. Its a bastard child. It's its. If you look at that list of "perks" you should go see a doctor right after, you could die.

In my games, Order seems like the most common, followed closely by Freedom, with the odd one out liked-by-nobody civ choosing Autocracy just to be different.

Hum. Odd. While Order certainly is a favourite I have seen a lot of Autocracy. A LOT! In my last game I planned out to play culturally. When I finally picked Freedom as the first adopter, revolts started breaking out everywhere. So much fun. Won the game without a single war.

From my experiences on higher level difficulties, and judging by the poll, I'd say about 9 times out of 10 the AIs will choose order. The ones that don't choose orderwill 9 times out of 10 choose autocracy. I have yet to see any AI choose freedom of their own free will (I say this meaning that the only time I have ever seen AIs adopt freedom as their first ideology is when my culture was influential over them or I made freedom the world ideology). It's like the AIs have a predisposed hatred of freedom. Almost all of the AIs try to go super wide ICS mode and then obviously choose order, and then the ones that are supposed to play tall and would benefit from freedom the most (Persia, Brazil, India, Ethiopia, have all actually done this to me) choose autocracy. This stinks because I almost always choose freedom, but that just means that you have to stay vigilant with your tourism even in the early game, because you know that a lot of people are going to choose different ideologies than you, so it's best to just prepare for that.

I find that the AI chooses the Ideology of the civ that has the biggest amount of Tourism before they adopt the Ideology.

Y'all experiences are different than mine. What I've seen is one player pick autocracy (Spain of all people in the last game) and everyone else follow what I'm doing.

I think maybe civs pick Autocracy if they're in a war during there selection period?

I did notice that as well. In my Venice game Germany adopted Autocracy, I got Freedom which caused Portugal, Byzantium, India, & the Shoshone to do so as well. But Poland adopted Order and was able to get the other half of the world (America, Carthage, & Spain) to join him.
