Please Add Semidesert Tile (from SoI)

I propose instead of semidesert, adding in savanna. This would make regions like Arizona worthwhile but not too much.

I think we should be able to drain marshes after researching a certain tech (Biology? Steam Power?). It seems silly to leave them there for the entire game when we've had the ability to drain them for hundreds of years.

Of course, some areas of the map would have to be rebalanced for this. Western Siberia and central Africa would become powerhouse regions.

I disagree with this idea. Marshes are there for a reason, and aesthetically it would look terrible to get rid of them. There are still swamps in Florida and Louisiana that are prominent.

he reason I proposed Semidesert is cause there's already a graphic for it.

But I think that adding Semidesert, Savanna, and Steppeland (in Mongolia and Siberia) would be great.

Right, when I think of semidesert I think of savannah interchangeably.
Adding steppeland in Mongolia and Siberia would help the scout spam of Russia, and prevent the Orients from having a large effect on the West. Then again, I never play 3000 BC so I don't have enough experience to talk.

Maybe some marshes disappear at a certain date?

Is this just an aesthetic suggestion? If not, what's different between plains and semideserts?

Semideserts only produce one hammer. So the progression is:

Plains: 1F, 1H
Semidesert: 1H
Desert: 0

You can't farm or cottage semideserts, but can build workshops (IIRC) and watermills.

I think that would be quite a good idea for some plains and deserts alongside rivers or just next to floodplains. It would give you some extra production around desert areas, particularly in Transoxania and Egypt, but would tone down the size and power of the super cities in the American west.

The American west needs to be looked at in general. Vancouver is the ideal location, yet I doubt British Canada will ever settle there and STILL allow Seattle.
I wish there was a berry source. Where I live (Oregon) makes the best berries in the world. Should give 1000 food and -10 city maintenance.

rename Semidesert to Savannah and we can use it all around the world like in Arizona, Gobi, Kenya, Australia, etc.

Or call it Shrubbery for a good Monty Python joke

Yeah, this is a great idea. It would also make Yemen and Oman better. It would make the game much more realistic and would help with balance.

I'd rather it give 1 food and no hammer

1-shield tiles are literally worse than unforested resourceless riverless tundra until workshops kick into full gear. This doesn't help Oman or Yemen much at all. I'd rather run a Priest specialist! These tiles should be 1-food, as R.T. suggested, or 1-hammer 2-commerce.

When I think of semidesert I think of this.

That doesn't look very productive to me.

Why helping American even more when some civilizations like Mali or Egypt have much more land troubles? It's like boosting the Praetorian. Why making a strong unit overall even stronger when other nations have trouble because lacking much in many areas.

Another possibility is to enable improvements on desert tiles.

Banking logic.
You have money, you must need more money! Here, take this 20 from this homeless guy, he doesn't need it!

Yeah, I suppose I shouldn't take a step in that area called game balance.

Unfair is historical.

It's a joke. Banks often give people with lots of money less payments and more incentives. They basically give riches to the rich and punish the poor with fees. Such is life.
It's not about buffing the US as a whole, but instead a region so we can balance it out. Overall, the US as a nation might need to be taken down a notch; but at least the southwest will be balanced in comparisons to the Great Plains

If you want to be historical, the US should grow economically until about 1990, and then stall and wait for all the nations in the world to catch up.
