Quoting part of the Civ1 FAQ, version 3 of CivDOS 'Added "very unhappy people."' Has anyone seen these or do you know what circumstances would be the best to cause them? I tried editing a saved game I had (in version 5) and making every unit (under democracy with no suffrage) belong to a city that had no happiness improvements along with cranking the luxury rate down to zero and upping the difficulty to emperor, but that just made all 8 of the citizens "regular unhappy" unless there's no graphical distinction between the two.

My ultimate goal is to get a screenshot of the male and female versions of this very unhappy citizen to use as resistors in my civ1mod for civ3, but I'm not sure how to get them. Anyone have any ideas?

In Civ2 they're common when capturing cities or changing government. In Civ1 I've never seen one.

Hmm. Tried going into Anarchy and taking a large enemy city as well, but still no dice. I also tried upping the difficulty beyond emperor but that just crashed my game when I tried to look at the city ;) Ah well, if anyone runs into this, please make a screenie or save the game for me. I guess for now I'll just fake it :)

Double unhappy citizens start to appear when you have a lot of cities. It is level and government type dependent.

First, lets say on emperor, you have two content citizens in every city. When 7 cities are built in despotism IIRC, the second citizen becomes unhappy in one of the cities. When more cities are added, more cities will have just one content citizen. After that, cities start to have unhappy citizens only. Next step is double unhappy citizens.

Here is a screenshot. The red guys are double unhappy.

Aha. Number of cities. Thanks cliff :)

[Edit: BTW, cliff, can you post that save-game or a full-size screenshot in either GIF, BMP, PCX, or PSP format? That would be most useful to me :D]

Here is a .gif

If you wonder what kind of city this is (no units present or supported, building a mfg plant) it is from a game where I tried to get a high score. This screenshot was taken on the turn before my spaceship landed. In the game I had a higher luxuries rate which turned all double unhappy citizens into happy citizens so I had to turn off luxuries for this screenshot. There is only one enemy city left and it is on a different continent. No barbarians appear late in the game (when a certain tech is aquired IIRC) so no protection is needed.

Excellent! Thanks again, cliff. :worshp:

Impressive! I've never seen it, and I've been playing for a long time. But maybe I'm not playing in the right way...
