Spoiler :
This game is the most unorthodox I have played until now. Being a strong anti-reload partisan, normally I won't ever do such things. But I set the bar too high and saw that wasn't possible due to new restrictions added in RFC: DoC, which don't exist in regular games. I allowed myself to reload at critical times (about one free reload hit every 10-15 turns), that means especially when approaching tribal huts. The purpose of this game is not competitivity, but for tale goals. Nonetheless, this doesn't mean a lesser game. I played as much optimally as I could. This game is somehow a "what if" everything went right, played within the rules given by the game itself. Note that I'll explain my moves and you'll see there is more than just playing with RNG.

Even though over a period of time I might count all the atoms of the universe, I could not count all of My opulences which I manifest within innumerable universes (Bhagavata Purana 11.16.39)

On a small rock lost of in the vast universe, it was place of intense activities. Comparing to the static cosmic time, life was changing at an incredible speed as to think life was under constant metamorphosis.

The Ice Age ended and the Sahara was still lush and teeming with life but its time was up. The predysnatic Egypt was about the regression of the Nilotic valleys and was forcing the Proto-Egyptians to move by the banks of Nile, leaving behind the drying Sahara.

The kismet of Egypt was multiple. So many small events triggering vastly different outcomes.

Spoiler :

In this pool of multiverses, this is the tale of one Egypt, one who doesn't know the existence of others.

=============================================================
Part #1 - Fledgling Glory of Egypt

The Nilotic People decided to move along the Nile. Going northward was more lush than the south. The militia wanted to move further than the Sinai, but the Hebraic people were thwarting their passage. They encroached despite being suicidal.
Spoiler :

Bothered by the presence of those barbaric soldiers. The leader bought the services of well-armed soldiers, capable to handle them. And the garrison was well reduced, making the city easily capturable later.

Spoiler :

Strategic Move:
Attacking two archers now before the cultural growth is best in terms of efficiency. Sacrificing the warrior gave the expected archer retaliating and thus an easy prey for the WChariot. Then, with Combat 1, you get about 67% chance of winning against the second archer. Best tactic than waiting. To note the Independents won't build more archers. They are unable to do it.

Spoiler :

The mercenaries then went after the Sumerians civilization. Sargon was displeased, but couldn't do squat against such fierce soldier. Once the Ashitaru Archer was killed, the mercenary kept by the capital, waiting the possibility to make peace. Afterwards, it was sent to unknown for a greater goal, so says some unnamed prophet.

Spoiler :

n7BZMf.gif

Spoiler :
The strategic move was to kill the archer while still hasn't acquired full fortification. And staying by the BFC of the enemy eases the ceasefire. That's an aftermath of Aggressive AI. Funny that many modders include that option without knowing it strongly favors the human player.
Why delaying the final blow?

Three reasons:

1) More sack gold.
2)If ceasefire made enough early, the AI will return to a peaceful build, that is the worker
3) A free worker I wouldn't build any faster anyway if the city was captured right away.

All tested in previous shots.

Sargon knew he had no chance against the egyptian army and right away agreed to a ceasefire.

He was pleased by the act of mercy...

The worker started a road while going for the source of food: the wheat. Djanet is without any doubt the strongest early city.
Not struck by diseases as much as the original location, great wheat tile, centers the palace once Sumeria down and Greece as well and at last creates a natural canal of Suez.

Spoiler :

Right after the worker, a settler was in order. For settling the strongest second Egyptian city, Yebu.

Spoiler :

Spoiler :

After pondering, Yebu avered to be a excellent second city. Reasons are:

1)Planting on the gold tile means a 2 food, 2 hammer and 8 gold tile for the city square right away without food penalty. A definite strong move, but important to get Mining before, because the improvement won't make it after! That is why I chose Pottery, then Mining as the early tech choices. The best to my knowledge.
2)Located on another continent: Subsaharian Africa. That means both capability of making later slaves and also really early intercontinental trade routes. Really strong!
3) Secures the phants easily and even after Ethiopia Spawn. Like Tomorrow's Dawn Kition strategy, that is my Yebu Strategy...unless that was known unbeknownst to me.

Rate mah story if yall like.
Man, time is such a rare resource. Barely one hour and already up. Jeez. Life no fun.

i went to world builder 3 times in my india story when ethiopia would randomly DoW me and drop a stack off super-outdated units of my coast

Yes! An Egypt game! I use the exact same city placement technique (neither flip to Arabia!).

Also, from my experience of blow-up-the-world-as-Egypt games, Greece sometimes leaves their cities with only one or two Warriors as defense, so park a Galley right outside of their borders to exploit that.

I promise you all that it's gonna be something once reaching the early ADs. I betcha you won't see this often.

Technically, to balance the fact I allow myself reloads at critical points (again because the way RFC impedes us at certain beelines...probably for historicity...and again I don't care about it, I like fancy playstyles), I edited the 3000 BC scenario with Lock Modified Assets included, that means no Worldbuilder. Of course, I touched nothing else because I want to play according to the imposed rules. I could have ridden of No Tech Brokering, but I left that too because that's the way the game was set.

I think I will leave saves this time at certain points.

I also think you'll all like what will come about 1 AD. That's gonna be revolutionary I think.

did somebody say revolutionary?

Hey, does the YT link work? It's a nice little vid giving a nice zooming view of spaceview earth down to Egypt closeup.

Oh I also got the nice idea to assemble related screenies into GIF, making convivial evolution of actions done and allowing me to put more than 20 images by post if I want.

the youtube link works for me, i can't vouch for everypo- EVERYBODY else

Don't be afraid to reload. I tinker with the random seed SO much, because my luck in Civ 4 is atrocious.

i've reloaded more times than i can count, and i can count all the way to 69 :mischief:

Don't be afraid to reload. I tinker with the random seed SO much, because my luck in Civ 4 is atrocious.

You'll see later why I did so. And you'll feel gratification out of this. Good stories can also come from fancy play. Anyways, I never was a grandiose narrator. I prefer showing unexpected and refreshing stuff. And anti-historicity for DoC.

Part #2 - Controlling the Fertile Crescent

A War Chariot, who went under strained training and valiantly against those Hebrews, was sent far away. A neolithic Great Prophet said to him that a great future was awaiting for Egypt. A new land beyond the dimensions of the Mediterranea and Red Sea combined. A new advanced people should rise as a offspring out the sturdy Egyptians and lead us to a brilliant future or our doom. The WChariot was commanded to be sent towards lands of deserts and mountains. Get through it and he shall meet an exotic culture. He shall destroy it and preserve the city. Never the prophet explained those enigmatic words and quests purpose.

Spoiler :
67N5Zp.gif

He also hinted those brave soldiers had to sacrifice themselves for the glory of the Gods. There was no other fate for them. They shall perish either way...by the foe's swords or theirs.

Meanwhile, the other WChariot had to finally crush those Sumerians. For Egypt Glory and their offsprings.

Spoiler :

Then, he went after Shushan people.

The workers, once Djanet Wheat cultivated had the extraordinary mission to connect both Babilû and Djanet. Commercial Routes are necessary for increasing the riches of the empire. They were confused how it was possible to make such trades if the Hebrews were blockading. The civil worker reassured his toilers that if we let alone those Hebrews without encroaching their land, they'll agree once again to a peaceful access of their lands.

Spoiler :

Spoiler :

STRATEGIC MOVE EXPLAINED:

I have tested that after 15 turns without any units within their lands or their units in our lands, an automatic peace is signed between the Independents and us. And ensues easy commercial routes just like normal civs.

In Djanet, the Settler was about to be done. But the need for more workforce was pressing and thus once turn away from settler completion, several citizens were whipped for being workers the fastest possible.

Spoiler :
a_1O7G.gif

The goal of those settlers was to settle a particular streak of gold. A mother lode of gold. A place in Nubia were workers were reputed to be hard toilers.

Spoiler :

Spoiler :

STRATEGIC THOUGHT
Never settle on a resource if you haven't got the tech to improve it. I have discovered through my tests that the improvement isn't added AFTER the city settlement.

Once Yebu was settled, the Warrior was sent deep into the jungle for discovering new trade partners. New knowledge and people. He was attacked by a panther and survived. The leader said to him to sit by those people and learn more of them. And wait the right moment to steal their technology. The Egyptian leader was sure every nation has its bit of knowledge and he had to acquire them to rule over his neighbours.

Spoiler :
STRATEGIC THOUGHT
In a normal game, if I knew I could keep that goody hut safe for millenia, I would wait until I get all Ancient Ages techs to try to pop it. Because the Classical techs popping are way more valuable than any Ancient Times techs. Maybe with BW for an exception.

Workers had three responsibilities. Finishing the road between Djanet and Babilû, build cottages and a stone quarry.

Spoiler :
bvBfyG.gif

A second warrior was trained in Babilû. Supposedly, he was entitled Enkidu. The local people said he was brutally strong. A strength comparable to an Urus. The local Egyptian leaders scoff at this and sent him in Anatolia where Hittites were raging and controlling the lands. They shall cover him of honors if he succeeds to survive and bring fortune to Egypt.

Spoiler :

IpQhZi.gif

Enkidu succeeded to loot a Hittite village thanks to his immense power. Several Hulugannis heard of that massacre and went after him. Enkidu ate them for breakfast!
And continued wreaking havoc for Egypt glory. He got such a reputation that every village knowing him did not resist and covered him with gold.

The thinkers advised the Pharaoh that the knowledge of Pottery for expanding the control of Egypt and granaries then the how to exploit the Mother lode of Gold were primary goals. Then the techniques on how to venerate the Gods were to be learnt along the way to keep records of the kingship or bureaucracy.

STRATEGIC THOUGHT
I went Pottery==>Mining==>Masonry==>Writing because that's the best path for teching. And also preparing for the arrival of a GEngineer once the Mids+Hanging Gardens done. You'll see why I need a GEngineer.

The next update will come in [timer=08/17/2013 5:00 AM UTC;Round Over][/timer]

Holy crap, you have a next update countdown clock!
the only problem to your plan there is that we better get our update on time :trouble:

Lemon Squeezy Breezy Cheezy Easy Peasy!

Part #3 - First Wonder;Hanging Gardens

Both Babilû and Shushan worked improved tiles. Most of them were cottages to ensure fast teching. The stone quarry was also up. Because Djanet was far away from the original stone location and Yebu a definite strong city site, the stone was needed for later important projects. Especially upcoming wonders like the Hanging Gardens and the Mids. Both wonders have their share of strength.

Spoiler :

A granary is under construction in Babilû to fight against unhealthiness and allow faster growth. Given no real food source was readily available and flood plain being unfarmable.
Spoiler :

The state of Djanet now. Also putting hammers into the said wonders for later fail gold. But a granary there was also important as unhealthiness was about to strike.
Spoiler :

We've hit the 50th turn and Greece finally organized itself into ruled city-states. The old Mycenean nation vanished and succeeded as the Greeks. We promptly open borders to allow good trade routes. We aren't in a hurry to kill those Greeks yet.
Spoiler :

Upon Djanet latest cultural growth, this allowed to cover the last riverside tiles missing between Djanet and Yebu and that was a boon when Sailing isn't there yet. Because riverside tiles within culture allow connection. And Yebu being "on another continent", we get a nice intercontinental trade route and the same will happen in the Fertile Crescent. And that works vice-versa too in Yebu. Yebu strategy rocks!
Spoiler :

Enkidu, while running through the nature for several years, went faster and better tracker. He was faster in forests than outside them. Still on the path of looting for Egypt glory.
Spoiler :

Finally, the Hanging Garden project was started. Even though doing this with more cities is better, the need of health is immediate and starting accumulating GEngineer points was pressing too. Not to mention the wonder is cheaper than the Mids.
Spoiler :

For some unknown reason, the Greeks ended some war recently. The baby boom random event only triggers the turn after signing a peace. It must be some independents I guess.
Spoiler :

Finally, the exact moment to crush those Hebrews arrived. Given the Temple of Solomon and the lower GPeople bar for Independents, their first GProphet arrives by T51-52 and the time was up to reap the benefits.
Spoiler :

Yebu definitely needs more cottages. Working unimproved tiles are bad.
Spoiler :

The Indians were born as a state out the Indus people.
Spoiler :

The Hanging Gardens are half completed. Near completion, despite the malus for whipping wonders, we egg on its construction. We have no time to lose.
Spoiler :

After controlling the area, the WChariot went after the peninsula of India. In the prospect of looting of course!
Spoiler :

Shushan is doing nice. Of course, we avoid anything else than a granary. U NO, those Persians. I'm gonna lose the city.
Spoiler :

Djanet was getting quite commercial and a library was up to be build. Because we need to foster scientists for a future GScientist, which one will have its decisive use later. You'll see. But the GEngineer must come first.
Spoiler :

The Hanging Gardens are completed.
Spoiler :

Part #4 - The Power of Early Alphabet

Although Babilû would need a library to boost the science part, a more urgent project was in line just after the Hanging Gardens: The Pyramids. We need to gather all early GEngineer :gp: to speed its appearance. The Pharaoh had projects for his engineers and hoped one of them would rise as a Great Person and dramatically speed up the enigmatic quest the Prophet has written on clay tables. Egypt needed the power to transgress the biggest naval voyages by going more than three times than usual. It would certainly need great advances and a GEngineer would help to this quest. Along a GScientist.

Spoiler :

The WChariot beelining to India was encoutering several problems. Barbary was rampant in the lands that separate the Crescent Fertile and India.
Spoiler :

Finally, Babilû grew larger in controlling the area.
Spoiler :

In Egypt, slavery was creating a lot of tensions. The recurrent use of abusive forced labors on the Hebrews led to turmoil and the recent GProphet that arrived in Yerushalayim was named Moses. He led a part of the population in the desert for 40 days towards the land of Canaan and now the Canaanites request independancy. Ramesses, the present Pharaoh was intensely raging by the loss, but couldn't do squat. He swear to himself revenge later. But now, he'll hypocritically welcome their arrival despite the land sparkles.
Spoiler :

Finally, the indian leader was met. He seemed quite friendly, but that didn't pacify the urges of the WChariot for loot for a long time.
Spoiler :

Alphabet was learnt and Egyptians were the first inventing it on top of Hieroglyphs.
Spoiler :

Right away, the excitement was at its paroxysm and we started trading to backfill the low level techniques (ancient times techs).
Spoiler :

And amongst the new techniques was the Animal Husbandry. The workers located a bunch of sheeps and started to enclose them within a fence.
Spoiler :

Ramesses tried to politely demand Sailing for free as a gift to thank his mercy to let them live after their rebuttal, but all he got was another rebuttal.
Spoiler :

Yebu was about to finish its library (the second one if finished), but needed to work the bad tile of 2 :hammers: to allow its whipping next turn.
Spoiler :

An interesting fact was as long the Greeks don't agree on opening borders, the Canaanites were blocked by Djanet's and Athens' cultures and this disallow them to expand farther, for the immese pleasure of the despotic Pharaoh.
Spoiler :

Oh still 3 hours to make my update. Perhaps I shall make another one before going to bed.

Now now, I wonder if I got new readers. It's often the same faces I see. Would be could if those delurk. For encouragements you know! :)
