This particular Emperor Challenge isn't an incredible challenge, but the start and the map are so very fun that I couldn't not share it, and figured it would be a great map to compete for winning times. Enjoy!

Difficulty: Emperor
Size: Standard Map
Pace: Standard
Map: Pangaea
Resources: Standard
Additional Details: All DLC required.

NO mods I hope?
Btw, with 2x Salt and Marble in the starting location, is it really a challenge :P?

Ah, the classic salt/wheat/marble. Pity I have no time this week.

What sort of challenge could one make of this?

Spoiler :
Only scouts are allowed outside your borders.

With an opening like this, I can wonder-whore as much as I like without being at a disadvantage:D

Spoiler :
Crazy start.
Turn 0 Settled in place
Turn 2 Found El Dorado. 500 gold. Bought worker.
Turn 3 Found ruin. +20 culture.
Turn 5 Found ruin. +1 pop.
Turn 7 Found ruin. Pottery.
Turn 8 Found ruin. Upgraded pathfinder to CB.
Turn 10 Found 2 ruins. +1 pop & +20 culture.
Turn 11 Found Uluru close by, looks like nice place to settle.
Turn 20 Found ruin. +20 faith.
Turn 23 DoW'ed Pedro. Stole worker.
Turn 24 Found Old Faithful close by, looks like nice place to settle (Petra spot).
Turn 27 Found ruin. +60 faith (great prophet my arse).
Turn 30 Peace with Pedro on the following terms: Pedro pays me 1 gold per turn for having stolen his worker. Found ruin. Bronze working.
Turn 33 Finished building Temple of Artimes.
Turn 34 Bought settler.
Turn 39 Founded Te-Moak
Turn 40 Finished building GL (took 7 turns to build) as my second wonder 2400 BC.

is this map cooked ? cause seriously, it's insane.
i just give it a try thinking of Tich Shoshone overview, settle turn 4 next to a mountain, 3 city before turn 40, 2 next too mountain + river. can do a national college before turn 55 i think...
already meet everyone at turn 35.
I settle my third city near the start.
you can make anything with a start like that..never happen in my game on harder level.

It's not cooked, it's not even legendary start, and it was the first map I rolled when trying for a Shoshone map on Shuffle. Thought I'd share, because

Spoiler :
I went for a Liberty four city opening, settling all three of my new cities on natural wonders - first one on El Dorado, second on Uluru, third on Old Faithful. Won on turn 180 by domination victory, which is probably really slow, but I had a lot of fun messing around :crazyeye:

Turn 50 Agaidika founded (3rd city).
Turn 60 Mausoleum of Halicarassus.
Turn 66 Stonehenge.
Turn 68 Religion founded (Teapotism:D)
Turn 72 Hanging gardens + Full Tradition
Turn 78 Parthenon
Turn 85 Three cities NC pluss Petra built in 2nd city :)

Turn 100: Nine world wonders (including Petra) + National epic and National college. 71 science and 46 culture per turn:)

oh my god  "challenge"...
Even on deity this heavenly start would make things seem like immortal...

And this is on emperor...

How about this: the challenge is to successfully wonderhog every single possible wonder to yourself (yes, that means changing ideologies TWICE)

Yeah, that was easy even for me :king:

Went for cultural win.

Brazil turn 190
Assyria turn 192
Inca turn 217
Venice turn 218
Egypt turn 236
Germany turn 239
Portugal turn 239

I did not have the time to finish international games in time:crazyeye:

lol, I'm having such a hard time with DC 33 that I'll play this map to relax. Salt + Marble start as Shoshone with 3 NW expansion spots on Emperor? That'll be good for my self-esteem hahahah.

haha! do it!

I'm doing it too for fun. The biggest challenge will be to beat myself to a diplo victory lol.

Word of caution though, be careful with the CS quests, I wound up three deep into Patronage before I could open rationalism, not that Scholasticism is bad, but...

I also ignored the NW except for Old faithful an went for the mountains instead :)

wow, bjelar :) You beat me by 2 turns (while having so low tourism). I thought you will do it way faster, after these 9 wonders in the first turns. I had only Petra, HG, Stonehendge, Oracle and NC at T100. How much culture did Portugal have in your game? Bismark had ~17000

Bismark had huge culture so even after I researched Internet on turn 205, I was at slowly rising and it went to rising only after I made the NVC and it still needed like 50 turns. Still 2 musicians later (and 2 on their way) sealed it. The international games were still constructed at that time.

Dunno how to speed that up tbh. Still, that was my fastest victory I have ever made (by 30 turns or something). Nice map, lol.

Well, that was fun. SV on T258, could have been ~30 turns faster if I had not given into wonder whoring :)
I had to buy the last spaceship part so I would not lose a diplo victory to myself (beat myself by 2 turns) :/
I signed 3 RA's the whole game. Only had one trading partner until it just got too expensive to buy the RA's.

Notes on Game;
I did not read the spoilers, so skillderado was a bit of a surprise...
I went with 4 nice tall cities based on Tich's excellent post found here http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=506043
Settled the hill 1 tile east of starting location.
The other three I settled to get mountains, and ignored the NW's except for Old Faithful.
Stole workers from Venice and a random CS, rescued two more from barb camps, built 2, and purchased 2. I built 2 more later on because 10 workers is about minimum for this map.
I focused heavily on growth, its important to get ~70gpt early because getting "We Love the King Days" runs a lux +16gpt most of the time. I had it going most of the time until 3 cities decided they all wanted crabs. I was sorely tempted to settle and sell a city just to get the only crabs I could find lol

Religion was Fertility Rights, Tithe, Swords into Plowshares, Religious Community, and Defender of the Faith. I decided I did not want to do the +2 faith for foreign cities and spam missionaries deal. It would not have been consistent with not settling Uluru, and I get bored with it anyway. Went with a nice defensive turtle/growth religion.

Tech Path was pottery, mining, AH, writing, masonry, calendar, BW, Phylo, then straight to Civil Service taking Currency skipping construction, then Education. NC was up ~T85.
After that I just click on Machinery, hold down "shift," click on Printing Press, then Acoustics, then Scientific Theory.
After that I went to astronomy for observatories in my 3 mountain cities, strait to Radio to get my Ideology (Freedom), and then grabbed the military techs on the way to Plastics.
Biology next, and then to Rocketry. By the time I got to rocketry I was over 1100bpt, so I just hard teched satellites instead of using Oxford to bulb it. I used Oxford to bulb Particle Physics, and the Rati finisher to bulb Nanotech. I'm not sure it was a better path, satellites was 6 turns, and nano was 9 when I got there. Apollo was delayed ~5 turns to finish a wonder. I wound up with the cap making 2 parts in 8 turns, one in each city at 8 turns and purchased the 6th part to finish them all in 8 turns.

I saved the GE from Pisa to rush Hubble. No idea how many GS's I used, I used them late for no good reason. I just lost count of turns after I finished the labs, and forgot to use them...

Aside from 2 pathfinders, I built exactly 1 X-bow to deal with a local barb camp, and made no other units the entire game. My entire military came from CS gifts and the 6 units from Freedom. War was never a problem because I settled back rather than forward. I bribed Assyria to DoW Egypt and all was fine.

Policies:
Full tradition
wound up 3 deep into patronage because I had too many CS allies...
Rationalism opener and secularism
then went back and forth between Freedom and Rationalism to get the rati finisher and the tenet to buy spaceship parts

I didn't decide on VC untill quite late, but chose CV because my very early tourism was quite impressive (Parthenon +theming bonus GL and quite a few early GW and GA) I didn't use any of them for culture or golden ages. I'm still getting used to the mindset needed to win fast;)

It seems like getting all the wonders has a good side effect, limiting the culture and tourism of your competitors. In my game, Bismark got 11-12000 by the end, and Portugal 8000-ish.

I did not get hotels until very few turns before the end, and I did not get airports at all. My tourism would have trippled over the next 50 turns, if I hadn't already won:cool:

To speed things up dramatically, get radio before the second world congress. That would shave off 25-30 turns (int games).

Added SCs of the situation at turn 175, 200 and 235 (four turns prior to win). I used a GM on turn 138 for consert tour in Germany, thus forcing the win.

Yeah, early tourism is what I didn't have. And this way you reduced their culture as well.
My main problem was, that I did not finish Aestetics early. I only opened it between consulates and rationalism, and filled the rest after I had the l3 freedom tenet. I am not sure, if forcing arts funding was right. I am not sure that it helped me at all, because all these great works would have been more artifacts (i ended up with just 2-3 artifacts and 4 landmarks) and Bismark would have less culture that way for sure.

Josh - how do u manage to make these 44 pop cities I wonder ... My cap was on food focus the whole game (with HG). Did you have any growth beliefs? I did not get any we love the king day tho, maybe that makes the difference ... Noone had spare copper for trade the whole game.
