Max number of Players (Info to Modders)

Hi guys,

there have been some discussions about adding (many) new Nations / Players to Civ4Col mods.
(Especially some ModModders really seem to be interested in that.)

Thus I thought I might let you know, what I have been told.

I occassionally have discussions with experienced Civ4(BTS) modders, simply to do some knowledge sharing.
(There have been some really interesting technical discussions.)

In one of these discussions I have been told that the absolute max number of Players in a single game in Civ4(BTS) is 50.
(The engine seems to not be able to handle more than that.)

Since Civ4Col was built on the same engine, it probably shares that limitation.
(I have not verified that myself though, since I never had the urge to go beyond 50.)

So increasing the numer in the DLL beyond 50 and then using so many players in a MapSize is something that should probably not be done.
(Or at least be careful and verify that the game will still work.)

In Religin and Revolution for example we are extremely close to that limit of 50, since we have 48 players when playing with MapSize "Gigantic".

To clarify:

I am not talking about XML.
In XML you can have much more than that.

I am talking about the number within a started game.
Meaning the amount of players engine and DLL need to handle.

Edit:

I have read in another thread about Civ4BtS that the absolute max number of Players that the exe can handle within a single game is 64 and not 50.

Well, I have never verified myself.
I also do not know of any mod, that has ever gone beyond 50.

I guess the (mod)modders will find out.
