We, the members of CFC,

- Recognise forum games, including Imperium Offtopicum, Mafia, and Night of the Werewolves, as beneficial to the spirit of community on these forums
- Perceive a severe stagnation or decline the quality of posting in the three subforums - Forum Games, Mafia/NOTW, and Imperium Offtopicum - that were split from the original Forum Games
- Attribute said decline to the lack of "cross-pollination" between different genres of forum games which used to share the same subforum and thus the same player base.

And therefore humbly request the moderation staff of CFC to close the Imperium Offtopicum and Mafia forums, and move active threads on these forums to Forum Games, where future games of similar nature will also be housed.

What about NES/IOT merger?

We've discussed this before, many times, and quite recently, and the answer generally seemed to be "no"

"Simpler" IOT games can be housed in Forum Games (like "lazy-NES" games which predates them, which are really the same thing as IOT) while more "complex" IOT games can be housed in the NES forums.

Well thats an even bigger split amongst IOT if we split it up like that. I dont know why people make such a fuss with the NES merger but I dont care if its with NES or Forum Games as long as it brings me more players and IOT stays united.

Also signing this.

What about NES/IOT merger? They have a larger player base.

I'm opposed to a NES-IOT merger, on the grounds that it wouldn't really help much. Additionally, as much as this sounds, NESers outnumber IOTers at least 2:1. NES wouldn't really benefit much from a merger more than it already does from the numerous IOTers who have migrated there, as from my perspective those IOTers that don't already NES are unlikely to start just because the forums merged. Either that, or NES would simply assimilate IOT (and we wouldn't want that, or would we :mischief:)

On the flipside, merging would infuse the Mafia/NOTW and IOT communities, which are both visibly struggling, with each other's playerbases. There's also the matter of the rump subforum that currently calls itself "Forum Games." At one point even this section was thriving with various fun little minigames interspersed between the Mafias and IOTs; nowadays it's as active as Chernobyl. A Second Union of Forum Games would benefit everybody involved.

I support a move to help encourage diversity in IOTs. While I would desire a IOT/NES merge to create a combination for geopolitical and other story constructive games the petition is a step in the right direction, aiming to lessen complexity with increase simplicity and depth.

I must concur. I don't think each base has the sufficient support to be as good as it originally was; people find it more convenient to be all in one place. It seems like even the best GMs are increasingly having trouble finding players, and if they do it often comes at the expense of other games, which leads to massive disruption.

If not Forum Games, IOT should go with NES due to similar ideas. In the end, however, it seems a lot of the Forum Games divisions, while well-intentioned, aren't that useful in retrospect.

Rolling with Nedim's idea:

Something that should be remembered when discussing this:

The Forum Games split is not the same as the OT split. It was completed on the back of overwhelming support from the denizens of Forum Games at the time. A bit more humility should be employed before demanding a reversal of the change that you clamoured for. The admins were not elected by you and do not work for you.

My instinct is to agree with the points raised in the OP but I'm not sure. I don't do much forum gaming these days. Would like to hear from the players in the Mafia/NotW subforum.

Leave Mafia/NOTW alone. Activity problems have been due to lack of old players, not new ones. Attracting new players hasn't been a problem - the majority of the current playerbase only started playing after the split. This problem isn't specific to CFC mafia, either - look at the totalwar.org Gameroom and TWC mafia.

I fought really hard to get Mafia/NOTW its own subforum. It is a million times better now than it was when it was still part of the Forum Games blob; the mafia players who voted "yes" in the poll - Jarrema, SamSniped, SouthernKing - are not old enough to remember this.

I'm not really sure. IOT and Mafia/NotW are wholly different games and... this sounds like "We dun got people for neither, we pull them all back together". and then then start it all again. Dunno.

Make a sticky thread in Mafia/NOTW where people can advertise IOT. Make a sticky thread in IOT where people can advertise mafia. Make a sticky thread in Forum Games where people can advertise mafia and IOT.

Something like that hypothetically promotes activity (although in my honest opinion, IOTers who want to play mafia have already done so, and vice versa), while preserving an independent subforum for each.

EDIT: Also, it's silly that people are so opposed to a shared NES/IOT subforum - which would basically be like the shared Mafia/NOTW subforum that has worked so well for so many years - yet so eager to establish a shared subforum of IOT, mafia/notw, and random spammy forum games??

I do admit; a merge with the NES sub forum would make more practical sense for IOT due to the geopolitical nature of the games and the striking common grounds but the current purpose policy is a action that is attempting to give a solution. It is a shame of the vocal opposition to the IOT/NES merge but that may in time come in its own accord. What ever the case the ultimate consideration would be a post count to allow seriousness in posts, to give a nature and to keep down spam.

What ever the case this should discourage over complex mechanics, allowing for mechanics of simplicity and depth instead.

This so much.

The spirits are different or something? I think the heart of the matter is we don't like Luckymoose, and he doesn't like us.

For the record, I arrived after the split. I don't know how late after the split, but that's pretty much irrelevant. I migrated from Civ5 S&T to IOTs, and found this Mafia thing which looked interesting, so I joined that too.

And later I saw NESes which look like IOTs but most also give me a "big deal" feel, so I joined them too. But, as time passed, IOTs somehow faded away and I ended up only playing NESes because the Mafia games I was in suffered of sudden attacks of GM absence.

Maybe it's about time I really started working on this little project of mine.

One of the unfortunate (?) side effects of being a well-behaved forum is that you don't get as much moderator attention, so I don't think there's anyone on staff who could say what the general feeling in the Mafia/NOTW forum is. I'm not active there currently (or for a long time now :(), but seem to recall that there was a bit of concern about numbers, cross-pollination, etc.

Have those concerns actually increased a lot within the community?

One problem with merging IOT is that it currently is subject to slightly different moderation than would be found in Forum Games.
