Greetings, Immortals and would-be Immortals (and indeed any other players of any level), and welcome to the Immortal University.

Here is our Leader:

Here's the opening scene:

The following settings were used to create this map:

And the Demographics for people to spot any info they can:

Before we start, here's the copy & paste bit where I get to pretend that I'm TMIT:

To play, just extract the WB save file into your worldbuilder saves directory, then play it. Use custom scenario if you want some extra settings to tickle your fancy. This series was designed for people learning immortal, so most people here will be at that level or trying to attain it, although deity players are welcome also. Hell, if you want to play this on NOBLE. The intention of this and any other game thread I post is to get better. Play whatever level you need in order to improve.

If you are aspiring IMM+, try to remember to add archery back to the barbs in WB. Every time you don't, a deity AI will kill a kitten, although there are a lot of kittens so it's not the end of the world if you prefer easymode barbs.

I do request people to list their difficulty and speed. In terms of updates, well nobody follows that anyway. Post in the manner you feel comfortable. Typical comparison dates are 1 AD, liberalism, and victory/defeat, as well as any major events. If in doubt, go with that.

We also have an initial Immortal/Normal autosave which is much more convenient since you can avoid all the worldbuilder shenanigans. It comes with my personal seal of approval (not least as my worldbuilder edits may contain hideous game-destroying errors that could cause your computer to explode).

Map details:
Spoiler :
All standard & normal settings, random AI's, map type is Fractal. No edits have been made.
Immortal University uses the same method in creating games as Nobles' Club, so here are the Nobles' Club guidelines on how to add techs to the barbs:
Spoiler :
Spoiler how to add techs to the barbarians :

  1. Zoom in all the way so you can't see the rest of the map.
  2. Use the CTRL-W key (or the menu) to enter the worldbuilder. Avoid looking at the mini-map in the lower right corner.
  3. By default you're in "player" mode (look in the box in the upper right; the icon that looks like a person should be selected). You'll get a drop down menu labeled with your leader's name. Barbarians are at the bottom, so cover the rest of the list with your hand if you don't want to see who else is on the map. Select "Barbarians".
  4. Select the "Technologies" tab in the box on the left.
  5. Find Archery (the arrow head icon; 8th row, 3rd column from the right) and click it.
  6. Exit the worldbuilder.
  7. Zoom out again after the map fades, and start playing.
Spoiler :
If you are meticulous, then add for:
  • Monarch....Archery
  • Emperor.....Archery & Hunting
  • Immortal....Archery & Hunting & Agriculture
  • Deity........Archery & Hunting & Agriculture & The Wheel
When posting, please keep any map & AI revealing details in spoilers.

Have fun! :)

No vassal states and no random events. Does that mean there are huts?

Thanks for noticing. :)

My mistake, I wanted it to say that there's no huts and no events and I marked wrong box when creating new game to see how the code should look. Thanks, fixed!

Move the Warrior 1 SW and same with settler. Then move warrior on the PH. If reveal nothing, settle in original spot. if there's any kind of food though then I'm settling on that PH instead of the coast. Don't want to get cornered early.

Since Churchill starts with mining and fishing, it seems like the timing would work for SIP, worker first while teching Bronze Working, and chop two workboats (maybe a third for exploring).

I saw Absolute Zero doing it few times, last time in his Victoria Let's Play: start with workboat & BW, and when city grows to size 2 start on worker and whip the worker into workboat when BW is done. We have all prerequisites here, maybe that's the way to go?

EDIT: Well, maybe not 3food tile in 1st ring for fast growth if we SiP. Hmm...

A modified version of that can work pretty well. WB takes 10 turns on a grass hill forest, then 3 turns to grow on clams, then 6 turns before you whip the worker. Probably this is the best approach since it saves a forest compared to worker first.

You can do the start on WB-> whip worker thing anyway. Working the unimproved sea food tile is just fine, until the first border pop, because it gives an extra commerce which speeds up BW, just so we can immediately whip the worker after anarchy.

Spoiler :
But we will lose the coppe side to Hammy most likely, since it delays the first settler a little.

Spoiler :
Land here is spectacular. I took Rifling with lib around 1000 AD. Will post an update later.

Yep, it's pretty insane. Second partial game of 2013 for me but still... maybe that's why I only managed to get 5 workers. :p
Spoiler 1AD :

If only the AIs were not so incompetent, Oxford could already be in. Or maybe I should have gone to Literature line... yea probably, mistake here.

Exit to desktop and time to work on this bloody report.

@ Kossin:
The maintenance in Hastings and Nottingham is over the roof. Why not building courthouses? :groucho:

Spoiler :
Definitely you lack a National Epic in London :(

lol @Kossin

Breaking immesely the already great 300 bpt by 1AD and puzzled by the courthouse enigma.

Anyhow, nice partial round.

Also got an underdeveloped city 1S of the desert iron. Breakeven research is about 95BPT, should get a lot higher once I get my first great scientist for Academy in the capitol.
Quite a few mistakes were made, I haven't played a game in ages. Got Monarchy way too late, decision to build GL in my capitol is somewhat questionable as well, since it will finish so late.
Didn't realize that building the desert city to share my London's clams would be a good idea early, so I got beaten to the spot by Wang Kong and had to settle it 1S.Most interestingly, I posses 0 coastal cities, building 2 of my cities 1 tile off the coast. :mischief:
Didn't realize that building ships might be beneficial to me at some point.
My current plan is to get Rifling and conquer the whole continent with Treb+Rifle, probably starting with Zara, who might get quite scary if left to his own devices, or I could settle for horses in the very far north-east, and conquer with Cuirs.
The second option is definitely the more tempting one.

Also, colour me impressed Kossin. That is one beastly start o.o

100 AD update
Spoiler :
Wang Kog just peacevassaled to Zara Yaqob. This is going to be fun :D

880 AD update
Spoiler :
And now Hammurabi peacevassaled to Zara too. This is not going to be fun t.t

Any criticism and opinions on my position most welcome! =)

Impressive Kossin

Spoiler :
I'm curious to know approx how many beakers you are getting from Rep and the GLH. Also did you trade for Alpha and if so, what date were you able to get it? I was wishing i had just teched it myself b/c WK was the first AI to get Alpha in my game, and it wasn't until 475BC :(

I went for the marble early instead of the stone and took the Lit > Music path building the Parth and the TGL and cashing in on a lot of fail gold later. I also moved my capitol over to the copper + FP site and shared corn. My approach took much longer to pay off than yours. Of course your knowledge and attention to detail far surpasses my own so it's difficult to compare :P

@Izuul
Spoiler :
As I recall, all my cities were coastal except York so GLH was immensely profitable. Actually, it was the second obvious wonder to build here for me, first being Oracle for Monarchy slingshot.

Alphabet was quite late as well... can't quite remember but I traded CoL for it. In any case the only useful thing I got from Alphabet was Animal Husbandry.

Most cities had reached either happy or health cap by this point which is why growth was stagnating on rep specs.

I need a week for that!

 Not use to AM/PM

Actually I only glanced through it in hurry (again) and wrote without confirming first. Still I need a week for that!
