Greetings, Immortals and would-be Immortals (and indeed any other players of any level), and welcome to the Immortal University.

Here is our Leader:

Here's the opening scene:

The following settings were used to create this map:

And the Demographics for people to spot any info they can:

Before we start, here's the copy & paste bit where I get to pretend that I'm TMIT:

To play, just extract the WB save file into your worldbuilder saves directory, then play it. Use custom scenario if you want some extra settings to tickle your fancy. This series was designed for people learning immortal, so most people here will be at that level or trying to attain it, although deity players are welcome also. Hell, if you want to play this on NOBLE. The intention of this and any other game thread I post is to get better. Play whatever level you need in order to improve.

If you are aspiring IMM+, try to remember to add archery back to the barbs in WB. Every time you don't, a deity AI will kill a kitten, although there are a lot of kittens so it's not the end of the world if you prefer easymode barbs.

I do request people to list their difficulty and speed. In terms of updates, well nobody follows that anyway. Post in the manner you feel comfortable. Typical comparison dates are 1 AD, liberalism, and victory/defeat, as well as any major events. If in doubt, go with that.

We also have an initial Immortal/Normal autosave which is much more convenient since you can avoid all the worldbuilder shenanigans. It comes with my personal seal of approval (not least as my worldbuilder edits may contain hideous game-destroying errors that could cause your computer to explode).

Map details:
Spoiler :
Added 1 AI, everything else normal & standard, random AI's, map type is Continents. No edits have been made.
Immortal University uses the same method in creating games as Nobles' Club, so here are the Nobles' Club guidelines on how to add techs to the barbs:
Spoiler :
Spoiler how to add techs to the barbarians :

  1. Zoom in all the way so you can't see the rest of the map.
  2. Use the CTRL-W key (or the menu) to enter the worldbuilder. Avoid looking at the mini-map in the lower right corner.
  3. By default you're in "player" mode (look in the box in the upper right; the icon that looks like a person should be selected). You'll get a drop down menu labeled with your leader's name. Barbarians are at the bottom, so cover the rest of the list with your hand if you don't want to see who else is on the map. Select "Barbarians".
  4. Select the "Technologies" tab in the box on the left.
  5. Find Archery (the arrow head icon; 8th row, 3rd column from the right) and click it.
  6. Exit the worldbuilder.
  7. Zoom out again after the map fades, and start playing.
Spoiler :
If you are meticulous, then add for:
  • Monarch....Archery
  • Emperor.....Archery & Hunting
  • Immortal....Archery & Hunting & Agriculture
  • Deity........Archery & Hunting & Agriculture & The Wheel
When posting, please keep any map & AI revealing details in spoilers.

Have fun! :)

Wow, finally a Hatty game.
The best and most beautiful leader in the game *wink* @Kossin

Warrior 1SE and see if something shows. IF not SIP.

Hold tumbs for hidden resource in the unforested plain tile.

You could always play on deity. Or go for early immoral win, raise your standards a bit or something

You could always play on deity. Or go for early immoral win, raise your standards a bit or something

Immoral wins are the only kind of wins I ever pursue though .

There's a lot of things I could do. But what I will do is have a civ with black borders and trollrush whenever possible, on the off chance I don't feel like winning 3 city culture on deity or abusing vassal mechanics or something.

I think I will play to 1AD and see if I want to continue.

Plan:

SIP, since I do not like to loose turns on Immo, learn AH and then to BW. Settle first city toward nearest AI 's horses to claim it( hope it is not Shaka, Pacal or one of the greeks) and attack the AI very early. Then who knows. Of course it may change if the map is very generous or the nearest AI is more that 10 turns away for a war chariot.

smel floodplain south, so will settle on plainforest, double corn, floodplain, riverside, 1 grasshill sounds fantastic to me

Hatty

If only the world had fewer deadlines... or a 25th hour to every day would help as well

Flood plains... suspiciously looking tile with no forest... hmm.

Might give this a shot. I seem to start too many games and not finish. See if I can match Izuul or Kossin expectant date!

Finally won the 3rd attempt after underestimating you-know-who in the first and overextending myself in the second.
With the right strategy it wasn't that hard ultimately, but not quite the no-brainer it seemed like after the first few turns. Thanks for a very interesting map!

Yeah not as easy as it looks, at least not for me.

Spoiler :
There's not a great rush target here. Wang starts in jungle and heavy forest, Pacal is too far away, and Shaka spams too many units and doesn't build enough good stuff. He also has those darn Impis. I was torn b/t going for the WC rush or just cottaging around the capitol and trying to grab some decent city spots (there aren't really that many unless you are quick), but then i got a 2000BC-ish red fist from Shaka which didn't really give me a choice.

Bloody war but a few axes helped and i was able to pillage his copper after a bit. About 700BC now and I've taken 3 cities including his capitol. He only has 1 Impi left in a remote city so it's basically just mop up time at this point.

I have some economic recovery to do though. I went for Math and traded that to WK for Alpha. I have a GS due in 2T, and I'm getting some cottages down around Thebes, but they are obviously late. Currently sitting at -4gpt at 0% slider :)

WK only seems to have archers still for some reason, so I haven't ruled out leaving Shaka with 1 bad city, making peace for all of his techs, and trying to attack WK if he still doesn't have metal in a few turns. Not sure that's a great idea though. All of the wonders are going to the other continent, so it may be best to hold onto a trading partner.

I haven't played in a few years -- I don't recall Hatsheput getting nearly so much love last time I visited these forums! (despite being one of my favorites)

If you don't mind me interrupting to ask -- why is she considered strong? Is it because people have stopped undervaluing creative? People like war chariot rushes now? Because you can get lots of priest gpp (which I never really learned how to take advantage of)?

War chariots, great starting techs, and two strong traits. I think Ramses is a little better but creative is a nice trait.

Immortal 1 AD - situation has improved substantially

Spoiler :

I took 2 more Shaka cities, the last one being settled directly on marble, then made peace in 525BC for several techs.

On the next turn i finally got the crucial tech by building research in most cities.
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0003_zps7f2b5ca6.jpg

With Currency my economy was instantly stable and i was able to pick up a little bit of gold in trades with WK and Pacal to finance some more research. The next critical tech that i targeted was Monarchy for HR. With at least a dozen WCs sitting around and a potential monster cottage cap the only thing that made sense here was a beeline for HR to grow Thebes. I self-teched Poly and PH and then saw the potential to trade for Monarchy with Pacal. The only problem was i was his worst enemy b/c he had founded Hinduism while WK had founded Buddhism and WK had demanded me to switch earlier, which i did to avoid trouble. However situations like this are where the Spiritual trait really shines. I switched to Hinduism and on the next turn WK was Pacal's worst enemy and i was able to trade Currency for Monarchy and 40g!

Also with PH i noticed the Oracle still had not been built in 400BC which is ludicrous, but i wasn't arguing about it. I sent workers to chop several forests around Thebes that would be stored while building Wealth with the intention of switching to the Oracle and building it in 1T if it were still available. Of course it was built on the next turn so i scratched that idea but i had just finished teching Aesthetics and went for the Parthenon instead. I think Parthenon fail gold is often better than the wonder itself, but with all the food and Spiritual i think i can make really good use out of Parth + TGL by running CS and hopping out occasionally to whip when necessary.

Here's an overview of my civ in 225BC with likely all of my cities settled. Creative culture was really doing some work on Wang's cities to the north and allowed me to squeeze an extra city up there which will in turn put even more creative culture pressure on him. The city isn't much, but it can share one corn to grow a little and maybe help grow some cottages or work some hills. You can also see work has begun on TGL.

The Parthenon finished in Thebes and then i got to have my cake and eat it too when WK received a bunch of Parthenon fail gold that i was able to grab with Aesthetics.

On the final turn before i stopped i got an annoying surprise from Pacal. You can see in the screen shot below that a great artist was born in 125BC. That was, of course, Pacal's GA from Music which he promptly used to culture bomb my Zula cities and steal the deer tile and a hill from Ulundi. I had every intention of making Ulundi my HE city, but it's now too food poor to work all of the mines.
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0006_zpsd04ed723.jpg

Civil Service due next turn in 25AD, and I'll have a GS to bulb Philo in 2T.

The only potential trouble i can foresee in this game is trying to juggle WK and Pacal. I need a trading partner and Pacal has already gone WFYABTA on me, but he's teching a lot faster than WK and he likes me a lot more than WK. I think i can get him to friendly by switching into his religion which he's done a much better job of spreading to my cities than WK has, another potential reason to side with Pacal. For the moment I'm just trying to stay neutral though.

Spoiler :
Rough one on deity, i was missleaded by 2 of shakas border citys with just 2 archers in it. Tried a backstab after he DoWed on Pacal, but it took me to long to find out where his metal was(well i realized after a short while that it's probably right in the BFC of his capitol). But of course against his unit spam there was no way out. Didn't really lose, but everything was to costly and inefficient to continue

Sid Style to around 1500AD:

Spoiler :

- SIP

- AG is the obvious call, followed by hunting/AH due to pig/jumbo/gold site. This unlocked horses, so no need for heavy spawnbust or archery.

- Settled 1 more city after that, to the west for forests + copper + pig + more jumbos

- Researched alpha since nobody had it yet, pulled trades, bulbed math and teched construction. The reasoning here is simply that Shaka is a serious problem and needs to die. Between some whips and math boosted chops on a lot of forests, I was able to get out tons of troops and smashed his basic melee garrisons easily with catapults + CR axes + noobiphants. Elephants were nice but barely mattered.

- With some fortune and trade abuse, and the fact that our other continent is inhabited by a super GK who's been beating on everybody, I still won Lib, taking nationalism.

- I've since teched democracy, corporation, and communism. I'm pretty sure I'll get kremlin for boosted cash rush. Wang has rifles, most others don't have replaceable parts. GK is very backwards. The plan is to quickly capitulate Pacal (eliminating one of his legendary cities), and then either target Wang or cash rush out some ships and take down GK, depending on how easy it looks to take out Korea and whether I can get a vassal foothold on GK's land. With just under 20% world land to myself after capping Shaka, I'm in good shape to win in whatever fashion. Around 1500 AD the only person ahead of me is Pacal, and only barely. I've already overtaken the other civilizations in tech.
