Greetings, Immortals and would-be Immortals (and indeed any other players of any level), and welcome to the Immortal University.

Here is our Leader:

Here's the opening scene:

The following settings were used to create this map:

And the Demographics for people to spot any info they can:

Before we start, here's the copy & paste bit where I get to pretend that I'm TMIT:

To play, just extract the WB save file into your worldbuilder saves directory, then play it. Use custom scenario if you want some extra settings to tickle your fancy. This series was designed for people learning immortal, so most people here will be at that level or trying to attain it, although deity players are welcome also. Hell, if you want to play this on NOBLE. The intention of this and any other game thread I post is to get better. Play whatever level you need in order to improve.

If you are aspiring IMM+, try to remember to add archery back to the barbs in WB. Every time you don't, a deity AI will kill a kitten, although there are a lot of kittens so it's not the end of the world if you prefer easymode barbs.

I do request people to list their difficulty and speed. In terms of updates, well nobody follows that anyway. Post in the manner you feel comfortable. Typical comparison dates are 1 AD, liberalism, and victory/defeat, as well as any major events. If in doubt, go with that.

We also have an initial Immortal/Normal autosave which is much more convenient since you can avoid all the worldbuilder shenanigans. It comes with my personal seal of approval (not least as my worldbuilder edits may contain hideous game-destroying errors that could cause your computer to explode).

Map details:
Spoiler :
Map type is Donut. :D Added 2 AI's, everything else normal & standard, like peaks in the middle and random AI's. No edits have been made.
Spoiler :
I swear I generated over 150 maps, I couldn't get something "normal"; either one or two AI's had way too much space or it was Gandhi between Monty & Ragnar with no strategic resources, or we had capitol with 5+ food resources or it was noone miles from us to rush. So I ended up adding 2 AI's, didn't really check for balance, but we do have decent but not too great capitol and possible rush target. But not the great one.
Immortal University uses the same method in creating games as Nobles' Club, so here are the Nobles' Club guidelines on how to add techs to the barbs:
Spoiler :
Spoiler how to add techs to the barbarians :

  1. Zoom in all the way so you can't see the rest of the map.
  2. Use the CTRL-W key (or the menu) to enter the worldbuilder. Avoid looking at the mini-map in the lower right corner.
  3. By default you're in "player" mode (look in the box in the upper right; the icon that looks like a person should be selected). You'll get a drop down menu labeled with your leader's name. Barbarians are at the bottom, so cover the rest of the list with your hand if you don't want to see who else is on the map. Select "Barbarians".
  4. Select the "Technologies" tab in the box on the left.
  5. Find Archery (the arrow head icon; 8th row, 3rd column from the right) and click it.
  6. Exit the worldbuilder.
  7. Zoom out again after the map fades, and start playing.
Spoiler :
If you are meticulous, then add for:
  • Monarch....Archery
  • Emperor.....Archery & Hunting
  • Immortal....Archery & Hunting & Agriculture
  • Deity........Archery & Hunting & Agriculture & The Wheel
When posting, please keep any map & AI revealing details in spoilers.

Have fun! :)

Riverside sheep + financial, that's nice. SIP + AH-> mining->BW->the wheel->pottery, maybe the wheel before mining/bw

Obviously AH first. Any little excuse to look for horses early with Darius is great. Hunting is actually somewhat useful here to speed up AH even if we don't end up with any hunting resources nearby. Double pre-req research bonus ftw. I think i would go for Mining before TW at the very least. The GH sheep could be mined early for a little production before BW, but i certainly wouldn't want to delay BW very long here.

I guess the real question is should i sack up and play this on Deity? I'm getting a bit bored with Immortal games.

The corn won't be irrigated so 4F-1H-3C sheep in 4 worker turns looks more appealing for the first improvement than 5F corn that will require 5 worker turns to farm.

Finally current school semester is over and I have some free time again. Too bad it wasn't over a bit earlier to have more time for SGOTM or that SGOTM didn't last few weeks longer.

I'll try this one too, didn't play Donut so far.

Just a note for anyone playing lower level that Immortal, if you're playing with Huts & Events start with scout; there's 40 huts on this map (and on "normal" type there's 25). But on Emperor+ don't play with Huts & Events, cause AI starts with 2 scouts, so they'll have the advantage.

As for the start, no idea about the scout move, but SiP looks OK. AH first, then we'll see.

Yes. :yup: I said in Bullpen I'll go with some unusual map type. Info is in post#2.

Oh joy. 12.9% odds from a damaged bear and the scout is dead. How I love the Annoyance Generator...

Never tried Donut before and won't be able to play much before leaving, but what little I revealed looked decent enough. SIP and went AH (of course). Then Mining, and after a little back and forth I decided on BW next.

Killing a Whale by SIP though, what the hell?

Yeah BYE!!!! A warrior dies at 9.9% now. F off, seriously. I have better things to do........

I think settling 1SW deserves consideration. It loses a turn and a forest but seems to gain 6 riverside grass tiles if my fog-gazing is accurate, and we're financial. There's also a slight chance that SIP could block seafood to the north, and it's easier to share food tiles if they are second-ring.

agree, we cannot lose anything, but deer or fur and it's a way better longterm as cottage spot.

Given the snow on the trees except the southern one, we're probably not far from the northern tundra. Does this map script have northern tundra?
If it does, SW seems better to secure a bit more land and better tiles as mentioned. Perhaps even wander 2-3 turns and block of land to backfill if the warrior sees something promising.

Right, so I gave this a go even though I haven't... quite... won the last one, Hatshepsut, yet. I tend to get bored when I get toward the endgame.

Spoiler :
I moved the scout but decided that settling in place was the best option. Built two workers while researching AH and TW because I figured there's a lot of work to be done and I can't waste time if I want a chance at rushing someone. I settle my second city one left to the horse, researched mining and BW whipping and chopping, then pottery to make early use of the financial trait. I decided SB would be my first target. I decided to build baracks first because I thought flanking promotions would come in handy. I didn't fog bust, but that turned out to work to my advantage cos it kind of ensured I could get a second promotion for my immortals before heading over to SB. Rush didn't go great cos he already had a few spearmen before I could get to his copper, but at least I got his capital and a few techs.

Took to Barbarian cities and by 400 BC had six cities and about to build two more. Also about to get currency to keep my research going. Thinking I need to head to CoL to make use of those cheap courthouses.

Willem and Genghis are at war with Hammurabi, which I freely admit to have played a role in. :) I'm not sure what the plan is yet. I guess I'll try to get liberalism. What will my overall strategy by? Which victory condition? When will I go to war again? As the only buddhist I guess Isabella has to die sooner or later...

@ caoimhin

Your images in post #17 don't work.

@ SiP vs 1SW

Hmm, interesting. Too little map info to get all the info for comparison, but...

SiP isn't really suited for Bureau capitol (min 3 riverside cottage spots from what we can see), but 1SW isn't that much better either (max 8, which is decent but one still may be have to used for irrigating the corn). Is it worth it to loose a turn and kill a forest for not that much better capitol? Food in 2nd ring fact is valid, but with that move you'd also remove 6 forests from your capitol and have 5 instead of 11. And for first 5 turns you won't be able to work 2-1-1 tile, but 2-1-0 thus loosing some commerce. Is it worth it? Is 1SW that much better?

I moved scout 2W to check it out and still can't decide.

We can see coast west side as well, so there's a danger of ruining seafood with that move...

8 is quite decent IMO and with FIN it's not too bad to have a few non-river grass cottages. If you SIP you will need to find a better location later and move the palace. That can be a little risky and also requires a decent hammer investment. I think I'd rather take the one right in front of me.

Just started, decided to settle SW. It's one less water tile, 5 more riverside tiles, and we're not losing anything because all the stuff over in the east is forested.
Starting tech is obviously AH seeing the two sheep and starting with Ag/Hunting.

Will see how it goes...
