Hi!
Anyone up for a direct IP connection game?

Im looking for about 4+ players and its preferable if u live in Europe timezone so its easier to arrange a time when we can play.
This is supposed to be a long save where we play whenever all have time.
Settings we will discuss but only natural map not like donut or such. Speed normal and normal turntimer. All victories on but time. Write here if ur interested and if u live outside Europe its good if you have a lot of sparetime if we shall be able to sync. ooh and Bismarck is taken;)

Rules: quickcombat (offence and defence) and quickmoves on in optionsmenu.
Edit: simultaneous turns on.

Add ais:

I would be up for that, although I'm not sure about using direct IP over Gamespy. Maybe Hamachi?

As luck would have it I live due south of you so timezones are not an issue for me. :wavey:

Hi again!
Is all MP from the civ meny via gamespy? I heard they will shut down so lets try hamachi. I just downloaded it and created a network called: Civtilidy
Can you try to join just see if it works?

I'm afraid just giving me the name and password isn't enough, I need to know the ID of your network in order to join it.

The network ID should be Civtilidy but ive PMed more info
Should i put my IP as network ID?

With 'more info' do you mean the password? Because I entered it but the problem is that the network doesn't exist according to the error message I receive.

I suppose so, at least whenever I and my BFF play over Hamachi our network ID is the IP of one of us.

...

How am I supposed to join any of them if I don't know their IDs?

Thanks for the offer civtilidy but it's not something I would be interested in if there was no turn timer and I assume you wouldn't be using simultaneous turns? Without those it would be a rather long time sat at the computer waiting for each turn which wouldn't be my cup of tea. Good luck though in finding players.

But it will be simultaneous turns so it might suit you. I want it to be fast but still no turntimer so ppl can micro and make good decisions in times of war. So hopefully most turns will go fast anyway. I believe the stress from turntimer makes many not play their best. Everyone will also have to turn on quickmoves and quickcombat in optionsmeny.

I remember you saying that you haven't played much multiplayer yes? The issue with no turn timer but simultaneous moves is that there is a massive advantage to the person moving second within the turn, ie they get to respond to the move, counter it, hit the stack when it is most vulnerable etc. I understand what you are saying with wanting to micro but you will end up with situations where people won't want to move first and that could go on indefinitely without a timer. This is why a lot of movement is done at 8 seconds left or at the time the clock strikes 0, so there is minimal exposure.

All games online are played blazing timer which generally gives a lot of time I find anyway, and I'm slower than the average online player. If you go to medium the turns do drag out a long time anyway.

But that's just me, I'd be interested if there were a timer but I don't want to force one on you. I know I wouldn't want to move until the other player had...

Yes im quite new to mp. I understand what u say is a problem. could it work with a rule that in case of war the first in turnorder (A) must make all their moves first and the second (B) is not allowed to do anything at the front before A has hit enter. That way wouldnt it be like a normal civgame? If we are only 4 players i think all can follow this rule. This will only work if all is honest and follow.
Im also thinking about adding AIs so these situations will become less frequent but want to discuss first.

It might work, although it would stilt the game a little, and be hard to define who does what. The main issue is if an attack has to go across 1 open square, the defender might get 2 chances to hit the units. You should go online and try a timered game before you dismiss it, they aren't that bad and do keep the pace up which is really nice. You do get a lot of time to do everything, you would be surprised. I am sure even the slowest player on medium timer will be twiddling their thumbs each turn for a long time.

I say we go with this rule. I would see this as a qualitygame for fun with a rather slow pase where ppl can use all their tips and trix. Ive played online with turntimer and theres no time for extreme micro as deciding what tiles each city shall work and count their food to work these, worker-micro and whiptiming. Also theres so much fluctuation between the length you need for turns. Im also thinking that if someone goes afk some mins u can take opportunity to plan and micro. I would be happy if you join but understand if its too slow pace for you.

How about a slow speed turn timer as compromise?

If we really want to take a break there's always the pause button you know.

I think I am just a rather fast/impatient player in general. I noticed that when I did BOTM I completed it in 4 hours, which I thought was slow but the average play time to that date was around 20 when I submitted.

Basically I would see myself getting very bored if we were all counting food and hammers. I do it myself for the first 40-50 turns when it matters most but I would probably get rather distracted if we were doing that the whole game. In PBEM it doesn't matter too much as you do other things in between but my attention span probably wouldn't last even a slow timer. Off hand it's around 6 times slower than blazing.

It's fine, I was mainly being polite responding to your private message here anyway. Enjoy your game.

Since its hard to find ppl, i accept a normal speed if u are in then
Rather a fast game than none at all. Are u in with this settings? Do u think u can synch with european tmezone?

Maybe that isn't unique views, but rather times link clicked even by us?

I will play if you don't mind the turn timer being medium or quicker (although that does depend on map and settings too)

I am in European time zone is a little ambigious, but I'm on UK time. Do you expect to play at evenings, weekends, unemployed day time fodder for example?
