Our next leader is Wang Kon of Korea, whom we last played in NC LXXX.

The Koreans start with Mining and Mysticism.
  • Traits: Wang Kon is Protective and Financial. Protective gives Archery and Gunpowder Units Drill I and City Garrison I automatically and also double production speed for Walls and Castle. It is regarded as one of the worst traits, Financial on the other hand is regarded as one of the best giving +1 gold on tiles giving 2 or more gold as well as double production speed for Banks.
  • The UB: The Seowon, a University with an additional 10% boost to Research..

  • The UU: The Hwacha, a Catapult with a 50% bonus against melee units.
And the start:

Spoiler map details :
Hemispheres, 2 Continents, Medium Sea Level.
Spoiler edits :
Added one AI. Swapped some resource locations around to try and encourage use of our UU.
Finally, a cut and paste of our standard doctrine:The WB-saves are attached (zipped; they are bigger than standard saves). To play, simply download and unzip it into your BTS/Saves/WorldBuilder folder. Start the game, and load your favorite MOD (if you use one, if not, check out the BUG MOD), select "Play Scenario", and look for "NC number Leader Noble" (or Monarch, etc., for higher levels). You can play with your favorite MOD at the Level and Speed of your choice. From Quick-Warlord to Marathon-Deity, all are welcome! We stuck with the name "Nobles Club" because it has a cool ring to it.
Spoiler what's up with specific difficulties :
In each scenario file you can select your level of difficulty, but that doesn't give the AI the right bonus techs by itself. Use the Noble save for all levels at and below Prince. The Monarch save gives all the AI Archery. Emperor adds Hunting; Immortal adds Agriculture; Deity adds The Wheel.

For players on Monarch or above, you should add archery as a tech for the barbarians (if you don't, the AI will capture their cities very early). This cannot be done in the WB save file and must be done in Worldbuilder as follows:
Spoiler how to add techs to the barbarians :

  1. Zoom in all the way so you can't see the rest of the map.
  2. Use the CTRL-W key (or the menu) to enter the worldbuilder. Avoid looking at the mini-map in the lower right corner.
  3. By default you're in "player" mode (look in the box in the upper right; the icon that looks like a person should be selected). You'll get a drop down menu labeled with your leader's name. Barbarians are at the bottom, so cover the rest of the list with your hand if you don't want to see who else is on the map. Select "Barbarians".
  4. Select the "Technologies" tab in the box on the left.
  5. Find Archery (the arrow head icon; 8th row, 3rd column from the right) and click it.
  6. Exit the worldbuilder.
  7. Zoom out again after the map fades, and start playing.
If you're playing at higher level than Monarch, consider also giving them Hunting at Emperor, Agriculture at Immortal, and The Wheel at Deity.
Spoiler huts and events :
Note: The standard saves have no huts and have events turned off. If you want tribal villages and random events, choose the saves with "Huts" in their names. If you want huts but no events, select the Huts saves and use Custom Scenario to turn on the option that suppresses events.

Spoiler Some thoughts :
Hope you guys have fun with this - tried to ensure all WK's traits and Units / Buildings could play a part. Will be interested to see what you guys do with it - probably something outrageous I haven't even thought of!!

Some thoughts.
Yeah, river oasis is probably the only tile not giving +1 commerce for FIN leaders.
And iirc, this must have changed somewhere between vanilla and the last BTS patch.

Btw, that start is very powerfull and with stone I would do some serious wonder building early.

Well, the area is commerce heavy (floodplains, river silk + sugar).
You could settle on one of the 2 river plains hills to get an extra hammer or
you could settle on the naked river plains (1 left+up) to work the oasis and not to waste a turn.
Since I play with raging barbarians I would settle on the grassland hill (1 left) for hill defense
so I can skip Hunting + Archery and go straigth towards Masonry + the Wheel.

interesting start.MIN+MYST gives us cheap masonry.but moving onto the stone doesn't look like an option-our warrior wont be able to reveal whats on the "coast" with his 1st move.I wouldn't SIP,and I don't want to lose the stone in the BFC.Hmmm,I can see myself settling the grassland hill if I was going wonderspam-SH,GW,Mids.

The other option is 1NW,and then settle 2nd city for stone with a big chance of missing SH and GW at Emporer level.

With all these FIN floodplains and oasis an early ALPHA is also on the cards.

Decided to ignore my own advice and risk the Plains Hill.

Spoiler :
wow-looks like the Hanging gardens is going to be a priority though.

Immortal (But barbs didn't get archery... :smoke:) - 850 BC

"Korea Rising"
Spoiler :
I wasn't very creative to begin and SIP. Mostly had to do with wanting to keep stone in BFC, which to this date hasn't been connected :D. Since we had an Oasis in BFC and I was financial, I went for Hinduism. This delayed some worker stuff (Worker spent 3 turns building a mine waiting for agriculture), but with all the flood plains I was content to build farms and mines until later if it meant getting a religion that'd actually be worth some $$$ (Instead of the usual 2 city Taoism).

After the religion move, just some basic "No copper, crap, well, let's get hunting just in case there's no horses, and there's no horses" so I went for archery. Even with the assist of weak barbs it still felt necessary (Warrior v. Warrior for control of a city always makes me queesy).

After getting archery we're finally getting started cottaging up our Fertile Crescent and filling out our map. TBH, I hadn't done a religion first start in some time, so I'm pretty happy that at this point the capital has 4 good city sites either in or sheltered by it's culture.

Dotmap: Korea Rising.jpg

Should easily have 12 cities, around 1 AD, so things are looking good. Need a Great Prophet though, that I have not planned for yet.

Played until the end on monarch
Spoiler :

1910 space race victory. Settled in place. Land was very commerce heavy and I got a lot of wonders with stone. Game was very easy that way. I got all the land east of the small inner sea initially, US was to the west of that. There were two barbarian cities, I took them with elephants+catapults. Got to rifles and nationalism, drafted and destroyed the US. Continued reserach to industrialism, and destroyed the continental part of France, vassaled them. Never got into any problems later, self-research most things and got a nice space race.

Immortal - 275 AD

A Portrait of Korea as a Young Prophet

Spoiler :
Well, even though I'm probably going to play straight through this one, I figured some narrative breaks would help my play more than anything. I wanted 1 AD but decided to wait until my first Great Person appeared:
Portrait of Korea as a Young Prophet.jpg

33% odds, but I'll take it. I had the capital working priests and even started priming my Maoi city for going for it as well. This should put me in the winning position, as it's not my usual experience to be leading in score at this point. And Korea is not a paper tiger either:

Demos.jpg

Demos are strong and that is before the shrine is built in the capital. At this point, I'm looking pretty good. The current short term plan is to get the AP to prevent any bogus war/game ending votes (Unless I'm the one calling the cheese). Other questions are whether to move the capital to Wonson, it popped an extra gold and with a couple cottages it would be the ideal capital if I decided to consume Napoleon.

Of course, in all this, I've neglected to mention that we don't have any strategic metals or horses. Since I've been so busy expanding (At 10 cities I still have 3 city sites left within the capital region I want to settle), The two options where Korea can win are Trebs/LBs/Elephants and Trebs/Muskets or Rifles to capture some iron. Otherwise I have to hope for some Oil and go all Modern on the world's ass.

What I'm really trying to say is that Culture and Space would be easy from here, so I want to get some killing done.

I would be tempted to settle 1NW and pick up stone with a later city. 1st ring oasis is awesome for FIN leaders and 1NW has the promise of more river tiles.

The plains hill 2N1E is tempting. You're moving into the unknown but there's a river up there and it appears there's at least one more floodplain. Possibly 2, or a FP and a green riverside tile.

Noble, Normal Speed, NHNE, 1AD

well

Spoiler :

The start was just so so. However, like many Deity player mentioned before, it was not the capital, it was the neighbors that made the difference. This map was so doctored that on lower level, it's one of the best NC maps I've played. Likely 3rd best, of course the top one went to that Full of Resources map-script one, and the 2nd went to NC 40, where dear dalamb kindly added 4 sea food that enabled me generating 307 beaker at 1 AD.

Anyway, back to topic, there are high food sites, and there are golds, although they were not close to each other. but with some work, the gold mines did there work in supporting early finance. And I settled aggressively only after Oracled Civil Service.

What made this map outstanding was there were 5 Calendar happyness+Wine/Ivory/Gold. However, we do suffer from no coppy/iron/horse. But with ivory, the elepult rush is the only way out. but since i was playing noble, i just grabbed the desert copper near lincoln's territory. :) of course, peacefully.

So, settled 11 cities peacefully by now. 287 beakers at 100% with -79 deficit. Just teched Machinery and on my way to to Guild. Wait! I don't have horse! Thanks, Zarkon! You doctored this, right? Anyway, I'd get Guild first, then start a GA and switched to Caste System. Or maybe Engineering first to enjoy the +1 road movement?just checked F5 and found neither lincoln, nor napoleon had horse... Anyway, let's roll some UU out first!

Spoiler :

What AI got when I got alphabet... Julius did got IW, and I traded with him one Lincoln got it, too.

Lincoln was too slow in REX. So, I have copper and macemen now.

Yeah that could work out well too.
